Because the account itself is blocked. This will enforce the ban on everyone accessing it (iirc).

How is this option called? Change password? Because I don't see you mention an entirely new system.

Do you expect the source/client to know if someone is account sharing magically?

They could do so that you can only share account between 1 person at the time and once the agreement is of all associated MAC addresses on the shared account except the owners are deleted so that his account won't get banned if the person he previously shared his account with would get banned for any reasons but still keep them in a log incase needed in the future.

I didn't mention this but the people who want account share could make a temp username and password until the time of the account sharing has expired(max X day allowed to account share after that you have to request again) or if you request them to cancel it manually then the original creator of the account will get back his old username/password and is able to access his account again thru old username/password.

@Gi & @digestive - thank you both for your detailed ideas. However, I do feel uncomfortable at the idea of legitimizing any form of account sharing. I'd rather we gave out the straightforward message that account sharing of any description is not acceptable.

I do however like Digestive's suggestion of a 3-week to a month-long ban for the first offence if we were ever to make account-sharing into a 2-tier ban.

Would it still be possible to play on a separate computer? I have a labtop that's hooked up to a wifi connection, but my main computer that I do most of my activities on is through a modem that has a different IP address. Ever since my little brother quit MapleRoyals, he hasn't logged onto the labtop for about a month and I'm thinking about using this labtop for some mobile play when I don't have access to my main computer.

That's not a bannable offence, is it? I'm not taking any chances until I hear a response from a GM/Admin.

You can play on a separate computer as long as your brother didn't get his laptop banned.

So did any of these ideas go thru? It's been a while so I'm just wondering if you guys have discussed this yet.

It's up as a thread for staff discussion, so we can give answers when we've talked about it thoroughly and reached a conclusion.
