Do you guys think i can start this Server having 0 knowledge of MapleStory whatsoever?

Hi Guys !

So the title says it all. I never played MS in my life not at the golden times and not at the " bad " times. I do grinded out MS2 tho when it released. But i constantly hear that officials are like alot of P2W etc.
So basically why i am asking is. I know that never having played the official you are not expected to start a pserver. I know people from a different game who ask me questions in pservers which are usually the most basic ones you would know from just having played the official game.

So would you guys recommend playing here under these circumstances?

Quick Edit: I have found out apparently you can only play on those 2 resolutions given in the downloads. Is there any way to have higher resolution? :/

totally agree. After >10 years of zero maple, I started at Royals and I forgot a lot of tricks and things about Maple.

I have to say, it was really great to start off unfunded and unaware of all these "you should do this and that" things that float around. My first char here was (is) a gunslinger (pirate), and I just played it from scratch. It was super fun and there is a lot of friendly people I encountered especially in mid game. Also re-exploring PQs was great. They added quite some quality of life improvements to the game from back then but still keep it real and well maintained - so I think, royals is really well made. I do not know any other private servers, but I can say playing this server - being somewhat new - was a great experience to me.

Spoiler: Special "Warning" about Royals (not to scare you :))

I would strongly suggest to really read the Terms and Conditions of this server, before you really start to play - since you can get banned very easily here. I personally was banned for 3 days when I had an argument with a person occupying multiple channels. I was banned since I broke the rules by staying to long. Just as an example, the game masters of this server enforce the rules no matter what. They are not unfriendly at all, they are just strict. In fact the one that banned me was a super nice and honest guy. I dont want to scare you off, just want to tell you about this special thing here, since in other games I often saw some kind of remission for players.

 

You'll do fine, really good community here. Use the forum, its a great resource.

Maplestory circa the version this private server is based on can be grindy but it's fun if you like grindy games. Try and make friends, join a guild and do PQs (party quests)

Watch some videos to decide what class you wanna play. Mage would be the easier to get up and running on a low budget but it's about having fun so pick what you like.

I recommend making a cleric/priest/bishop if you are sticking around for awhile. But if you know you gonna be a casual player make whatever class you want

 

Yes, you should make a archmage (f/p) preferably and sell leech to make those juicy mesos

everyone that played this game knows old maple, you can have 0 knowledge and still have fun.

 

DK's can end up getting quite expensive tho... high lvl spears are damn pricy

 

I'd say that starting to play on royals is easier than how it was to start playing back in oldschool gms.
The forum is active with countless guides, we have discord and shoutbox for live chat, and many people in the community who'd like to help a newcomer.
In comparison, in gms, the community was so huge and full of new people that no one will hear you, so you had to figure stuff out by yourself and from basically playground rumors lol.
A lot of the original toturials of the game are still intact in this server so you will be taught by the game as well to some degree. In terms of complexity its even simpler than ms2, so like, you will find your footings rather quickly. MS was designed in the past to be accessible to a younger audience, so its far more approachable than most old mmorpgs that got revived with pservers.
And people who played oldschool gms still felt like a noob when they joined because some aspects of royals and some newer content still felt new for them, so you are definitely not gonna be alone in this experience of feeling new to everything.
Just relax, pick a class that looks cool, and have fun
