@Enticing You can't ruin the server; only staff who make server decisions can ruin the server. And as far as I know, executive decisions are largely determined by Matt. I still maintain that dropping the luk requirement on magician class gear only has an effect on the server if you eliminate the luk requirement on the Elemental Staffs. Most people aren't going to touch magician class armors because common class items are better both in utility and resale price. In case you haven't read my walls of text, which I'm assuming you haven't since you said mages would have a 20-25 int increase with your suggestion (it's 50 TMA), the solution to mages wearing magician class gear like you want is NOT buffing the int and magic attack of magician class items. The solution is getting rid of HP washing and making it impossible. If there was no HP washing, the only reason to scroll any equip for int is because it's going to be used by a mage. No other class would care about wearing equips with int on them if HP washing wasn't a thing. And by this logic, it would follow that mages would scroll magician class items because they would have a higher potential magic increase than common class items. But at present, it's entirely possible to reach 1 hit magics for endgame leech mobs with just common class gear. There's no reason to make or buy magician class gear that cannot be repurposed to HP wash an attacker and that is not nearly as liquid; to further this point, selling prices of magician class gear are lower than selling prices of common class gear with the exact same stats. No one cares about funding a mage beyond the 1 hit magic for endgame leech mobs unless they actually like playing a mage. And very few people think that way. So your goal of having it be the norm for mages to wear magician class gear is really only solved by disabling HP washing. And that's not going to happen. Since the new source was released and implemented far before it was ready, we've seen the server philosophy turn towards recreating pre Big Bang GMS, irrespective of playerbase opinion. Look at the boat rides thread. There was even a poll to show the vast majority of people were against forced boat rides, but forced boat rides were implemented anyway. Ultimately, discussion about fundamental changes to the server that conflict with the owner group's personal vision seems pointless. It's nice to entertain the thought of how mages could have ended up actually using their class gear, but in my opinion, it's simply not going to happen on Royals. If it does, great. But I wouldn't expect that to happen here ever. If you want to relive your personal nostalgia about wearing high level magician class gear on your mage, go for it! You'll almost certainly be weaker than pure int mages your level, but it's up to you how you have fun on this game. Maybe that means being unique and having a different gearing style than everyone else. Maybe that means having the most efficient gearing build to optimize your damage at your level. No one is stopping anyone from wearing magician class items. But if you want OTHER people to do it too, you'll have to convince them somehow. And the easiest way to do that is solving the fundamental problem: disable HP washing.

@Enticing there was no harm in making this thread. You put light to a good subject and made people raise their voices. Even if nothing gets changed at least we had a discussion about it

You vaguely post about a controversial issue and get upset when you're met with opposition?

Also where are you getting the 20-25 int from? Is that all the LUK you have, and you're looking for major changes to a class?

    lol

Come on man. You sound like I'm discussing politics here. We're discussing dropping LUK req off equips nobody currently uses. No need for overly aggressive responses.

For one I wasn't being aggressive, I just disagree with you. A lot. Welcome to the internet, the real world, and life.

Second, you ignored my part about it being only 20-25 INT. I can only assume I was correct and you DO want to change a huge part of the class for what is a small damage increase in 4th job.

Just because you, personally, don't, or can't use said equips doesn't mean nobody does. Mages are already easy enough to level and get great damage with little money (hense so many lukless mages), they don't need the extra support in dropping the secondary stat off equips. I would ONLY be okay with it if mage accuracy was ONLY affected by luk, in the same manner dex is for warriors and how warrior items have no dex requirement. Otherwise just buff the LUK gear so it's somewhat comparable to compensate those LUK mages who invested a significant chunk of their AP into luk, however, going lukless should be better, but a lot harder to do. It's a complicated issue.

Forgetting the fact that the equipment you're talking bout that nobody uses is also cheap, by doing this there'd be a window where you could scroll an insanely good weapon for cheap that you can now use. But I'm sure you had completely altruistic intentions with this thread.

There has to be a solid trade off or you're just arbitrarily buffing a class while making it easier. Not good for the class, or the game.

I have no issue with you or anyone else disagreeing with me. This whole thread is people disagreeing with me. You happen to be the lone person whose taking a certain combative tone and im not sure why. I'm caught off guard is all.

The 25 int thing was me adding quickly in my head what extra possible INT/matk a mage would get from godly stated max level equips if LUK was dropped off equips when compared to the normal equips mages currently use. Not sure if that answers your first question.

Id be fine with buffing higher level LUK gear. I dont think going lukless is the harder way on Royals when the market is full of gear suited for mages who want to go lukless. Extreme patience is needed when looking for any deciently scrolled luk wand or overall as its just not the norm for anyone to scroll them to begin with.

I'm a LUK mage. It's mostly about the aesthetics of mage equipment for me, but not entirely. I appreciate the avoidability boost it gives, as well as the smaller XP loss upon death. It contributes to the adaptable, solo-able character of the cleric sub-class. I'm not concerned about my damage or competing with other mages, as I'm essentially a solo adventure battle bishop.

I realize that these aren't meaningful factors for most players (autopot, safety charms, XP loss currently turned off), but for the way I play the game, it makes sense. I chose MapleRoyals because it's relatively close to my GMS experience from back in 2007, and that includes doing less damage than pure INT mages while looking sexier and avoiding getting dragged into most party experiences, since I want more for myself than HSing on a rope.

That being said, I realize that not everyone will be content with mediocrity in one area or the other, so I'm not diametrically opposed to any of the changes proposed in this thread. I wouldn't actually reset unless LUK was completely nerfed, however.

I chose to be a lukmage simply because of nostalgia - when I started playing I just went around doing quests, and grinding like I did when I played in 2005. Part of the fun for me was leveling up and getting new clothes, and farming for my next weapon (evil wings, Kage etc.) I personally found it pretty boring to get one really good (and expensive) bathrobe at level 20 and have it forever.

The end result of being a lukmage (if you're not fanatical about very minute damage increases) is relatively similar damage at a much lower price.
lukmage gear is not expensive at all, and when I was at lvl 180, I met the luckless I/l mage who was also lvl 180 at the same time, and I had something like 20 more magic attack. although it makes no difference since we both 1hit petris anyway.

In my first post on this thread, I explained, hopefully very thoroughly, why dropping the luk requirement on magician class gear has very little effect on the class or the game.

My points in my essay preceding this post were as follows:
    1. Removing the luk requirement on magician class gear gives 50 TMA to mages.
    A. If the luk requirement is removed from the Elemental Staffs (49 TMA increase)
    B. If the luk requirement is removed from the Blue Bazura/Varuna (1 TMA increase)
    2. This 50 TMA increase is equivalent to about 10 levels worth of damage.
    A. Mages will be able to 1 hit endgame leech mobs about 10 levels earlier.
    3. Best in slot items do not change in any way except for 1A and 1B.
    4. The only people who care about absolute best in slot mage items are the people who main mages, which are the minority.
    5. Most mage characters are leech and farming mules whose sole purpose is to 1 hit mobs with their ultimates.
    A. Common class items are better than magician class items.
    a. Common class items are dual purpose, used for both mage gear and HP washing attackers.
    b. It is relatively easy for a mage to get to 1 hit magics for endgame leech mobs by using common class items.
    c. Common class items have higher market value, making them both a good general investment for using int scrolls and a fairly liquid, easily convertable asset.

The one and only effect I can identify is if Elemental Staffs were equippable by full int mages. That's a free 49 TMA. If this happened, every single mage would go from Elemental Wands to Elemental Staffs for that extra 49 TMA. It'd be the new endgame weapon.

But apart from Elemental Staffs, how does removing the luk requirement on magician class gear affect the class or the game in any way? I'm very curious since I'm rather convinced apart from an endgame weapon shift, nothing would change at all.

@Leggo Tried making a non wall of text, but ended up kinda doing it anyway. I have too much fun on mage discussions. You're always free to read or not read what I have to say of course. No apologies. :D

A small increase is by the very definition NOT a solid trade off for cutting out a chunk of the game. If it's such a small difference, there is NO reason to do it in the first place.

It would be the new endgame weapon simply because at level 163 you can (as an archmage atleast*, especially with the new source damage increase) basically 1hit all the endgame classics anyway. if you couldn't 1hit them at 163 with an average scrolled elewand, you could probably 1hit them with a clean elestaff with no effort whatsoever

    * I've noticed that fire/poison can now 1hit skele in the mid level 15x quite easily

Also, If you remove the luk requirement on the staff, it pretty much defeats the purpose of the rest of the upper level mage gear, which I currently wear because it gives luk - which is required to equip the staff.

Either way, removing/reducing the luk requirement on magician gear would make it laughably easy and incredibly cheap to make a magician, because you wouldn't have to buy expensive common equips *that are only expensive because they are also HP wash gear*

On the plus side, the value of my elestaff might increase** ($$ Yay $$), and actually give value to my otherwise worthless lukmage clothes

**Although i'd probably have to sell it to a bishop because I/L wouldn't even need to spend more than 1m for a clean one to 1hit
