I don't recall complaining about unanswered questions. I'm talking about an openness to event changes. "If the GM won't take a closer look at and spend more than 15 minutes thinking about possible changes to the event, that's unfortunate." For your reference in case you missed it. Also, really liking the attempt at throwing my words at me.
-sigh- Not once did I mention cheating in anything I wrote, nor did I intend to accuse anyone of cheating or allowing cheating. Transparency is simply a part of my general approach to things, and as I stated in the implications paragraph that followed the one line you quoted, I detailed how I felt it would do more benefit than harm to switch to using All Chat, as well as be easy to enforce. Nor am I the only one who feels this way - workteam agreed on this point, and I don't see you assuming he's accusing other participants of cheating. Thanks, Egonics.
RE: OMOK Your team stated 4 names (which is what was asked) if you include "pink teddy panda" to be one answer, which it looks like due to your team leaders use of three commas. Basically what @Experience @Kekturi said.
You don't have to take it personally, I wasn't on the event, nor have I read through everything here. I was just asking a question, cause that is how I saw it.
Please view the ATW thread where I was given plenty of suggestions that I have implemented into ATW. We have no set schedule on what mini-events we do and what type of questions we ask, that was one question that can be quickly revised, which is why I stated that an event is left at the discretion of the hostee. You're talking about not being hostile towards anyone when your approach towards this in general was just that. I take feedback quite well, if you may view the ATW thread which includes past suggestions that I have implemented. In the original post, I only saw one suggestion which was using All Chat. I've already refused this before because of reasons stated above and also in the ATW thread. Everything else was a criticism of a question(s) (I never reuse questions in an event, so it won't necessarily matter whether or not I edit it). There are past discussions that you can view in the ATW thread that will answer certain suggestions and even praise feedback.
What you explained initially would probably be considered a right answer, but unknowingly to you, your team leader did not submit "(Pink Teddy Panda, Slime Orange Mushroom)." He answered "Pink Teddy Panda, Slime, Orange Mushroom, Bloctopus".
I agree with @joeylee for the randomizer part tho. Seems like a good solution and that way people would feel like it's more fair.
And this is why I wish you would read all the posts for suggestions (again, not a personal attack, but it's pretty amazing how easily my quotes were picked so maliciously). Quote from my first comment: "To me, using a randomizer to decide the event category (as well as a fixed number of consecutive repeats allowed of the event category) would make the process more fair to all participants. Having such a cap on the number of consecutive rounds allowed per category would eliminate situations like the one from tonight's event, with an absurd number of consecutive trivia rounds (in which certain groups seem to have a very easy time winning; thus, fairness would entail equal opportunity for "JQ gods" and "Trivia gods" alike)."
One last time, because the focus seems to be primarily on what happened to Shiroshi's team personally: these comments aren't being made with a victim's mindset, and none of it is intended to be attacks on anyone who participated in the event at all; if I came across as being hostile then I openly apologize. The only reason I mentioned any personal examples at all is to serve as examples for the general suggestions I was making. My purpose for making this thread in the first place isn't because I wanted to vent about how this one particular ATW went down, it's to provide feedback and propose possible changes to the event itself. @maggles I only brought the "Pink Teddy Panda" point back in RE: Omok to highlight the general point I was making - that clearer wording in questions, or perhaps example answers, be given so that participants don't have to worry about getting questions wrong on technicalities/formatting. And yeah, I didn't see what Shiroshi submitted as his answer - because it was in whisper - so that part could've been skipped. Thinly related to transparency lel @Christine I've been carefully writing so as NOT to come across as being anything but constructive in my feedback. Again, if I offended you or came across as hostile, this was not my intention in the slightest. And again, my point isn't that we deserved to win or to demand that the outcome of the event be changed. The outcome of today's event doesn't matter. The only reason I pulled in personal anecdotes was to use them as examples of possible areas for improvement.
I'm going to be as clear as possible so people don't keep misconstruing my intention with this thread. I realize that my answer was incorrect due to the Bloctopus part at the end - however, the initial reason given for rejection of my answer was that "Pink Teddy Panda" was perceived as one mob, which ran contradictory to the supposed leniency we should have been given for all event categories minus NTI. Like @Groundhog /Kaeta, I'm not trying to rage about the event outcome or attack any specific individual - the latter portion of the event was full of mistakes that our team made. However, the overall experience as a whole has rooms for improvement. If the host of the event can't come to terms with reading and considering our suggestions rather than criticizing our use of personal anecdote, there's not much more I can say.
I feel this thread is going off topic and it's more trying to prove each other wrong. Everyone here is entitled to different opinions. Making a suggestion in a feedback thread doesn't mean what you say will be changed, it's Christine who is very kind for taking a lot of time doing this, EDIT: Tim as well Keep it civil and keep it on topic.
People are getting very fired up with pointed comments, calling others out directly or indirectly, let's stop that now. Groundhog made some suggestions as a result of her experience during today's event. With any discussion there will be agreements and disagreements. However, it needs to be remembered that these events are held at and run at the discretion of the staff members involved. If they want to take all or none of the suggestions into account, it's their choice. That is part of what makes the same event run by different staff members interesting. Everyone has their own spins and rules which require an eye for detail as much as it requires fast typing and good muscle memory, and maybe even luck. I think if we can just bear in mind everyone has different approaches and different views on things and realize at the end of the day, it is the staff member's choice to hold the event, and the players choice to participate with that particular staff member running the event, it would help explain the reason for several of the comments and points being made.
Thank you for your feedback. I hope you enjoyed this month's event other than the bumps that you experienced along the way. See the explanation below regarding normal procedure for creating questions/dealing with 'bumps' during the event. Again, I always ask whatever staff members are with me at the time what they think. I usually have two other staff members with me at the time to consult with before coming up with a decision, which should iron out the issue almost completely. It involves more than one person's opinion and is agreed upon by many rather than just an individual. Questions are made (each month) and reviewed by more than one person as well (only staff members [not involved in the event] are allowed to see the page) to try and avoid the stated discrepancies you have mentioned. Thank you for your feedback. Besides the things you've pointed out, I hope enjoyed this month's event. EDIT: If you want transparency, I can take a screenshot of each round of answers that I get, and post them on the forums. I don't care for the extra effort if it means people don't question my integrity. It's an event, I always assumed that people joined events to have fun with friends and bringing the best out of people. What will someone really get out of obtaining a virtual item or two?
My original "last post/wrapping up comments comment" got deleted for too much sass, and not by John. Hmm. Reposting the more important part: To anyone who's still confused, I had no intention at any point in time to attack Christine or rag on her for hosting this event. Simply because I see possibilities for change in the way things are done doesn't mean I'm trying to hate on her as a person or am ungrateful for being given an event to participate in at all. @Christine : Like I've written above, none of what I wrote was meant to be personal criticism for you - just general suggestions for ATW, in terms of future hosts or the event itself. You might've missed it with all the post spam, but I directly apologized for offending you if I had, since I -again- had absolutely no intention ever of doing so in anything that I wrote. If I didn't thank you already for hosting, I'll thank you now - thank you for hosting this event, Christine. All I was trying to communicate in my original post is that I have some suggestions that I thought were worth sharing, and I provided explanations + personal anecdotes as to how the changes would possibly affect future ATW events. Of course it's less relevant now that Christine's addressed stuff, but I didn't want to wrap up this thread without proper clarification + thanks for the people involved.
Just so we're clear, you understand that the phrases "Mapler's Rock" and "Maplers Rock" mean entirely different things, right? "Mapler's Rock" would imply a sort of geographic feature, while "Maplers Rock" is a statement of support for those who play the game. In addition to altering the entire meaning of the phrase, an apostrophe certainly is a piece of spelling, as it can change a word to an entirely different one e.g. it's/its. This is not at all dishonest or unfair. Also, there is very clearly no apostrophe. Not really anyone to blame for putting it in there but yourself.
Lol. I don't know how many times I have to say this, but people nitpicking and coming at me personally doesn't really help address my main concerns. Thanks so much @David for taking the time to read everything that was posted in detail - it's really obvious you did.
The punctuation in this particular example would only matter if there was in fact both Mapler's Rock and Maplers Rock. I don't see the need to be dead on specific with the spelling and punctuation so long as the listener understands what's being said. Would anyone honestly think twice when they hear the item Cats Eye as opposed to Cat's Eye (which is the correct spelling)? Chances are, they'll know what you're talking about. If a person is able to remember the item's name down to every last word, using the example above say, Pink Teddy Panda, then it's safe to assume that they know what it is. Forgetting to add an & sign between the words teddy and the panda or forgetting a comma shouldn't be this unforgiving. In an event where players are racing against each other to see who gets the right answer first, this should be taken into consideration and I see no reason for players to get penalized for such elementary mistakes. Edit: I've never participated in this event before nor do I ever plan on participating thus I don't possess any first hand experience of what it's like to actually be part of the event so excuse any ignorance and misunderstanding on my part.
The mobs are called Pink Teddy and Panda Teddy (I did not ask for the sets themselves, I asked for mobs) in addition, I only asked for four mobs. Everyone else did not fail to execute the question as shown in the screenshot. I don't understand what all the animosity towards two questions out of the whole event, just because a team didn't get picked to move up, one platform. They were the only team out of the rest that made the mistake (omok). They did not answer Mapler's Rock for the other question, or maplers rock for that matter. I specifically remember only two teams answering 'correctly'. Courtknee's: 'Mapler's Rock' and Clink's team: 'Maplers Rock' (who answered first anyway). Other teams answered differently, no one else had said mapler's rock/maplers rock. This is the player's fault, not the question. I've already explained how questions are created, how they are reviewed, etc. It's all done by more than one individual. Decisions are made by more than one person if an issue like this arises and it wasn't exactly in their favor. So it doesn't really need to be discussed further, if the other team believes they were in the right, okay. I don't really think we need to keep going back and forth over two questions, when there was a considerable amount said throughout the event. Last month's ATW ran fine, since I started the event I see feedback bad or good on the forums. I can only assume it ran smoothly because no one had posted anything. Now that that is cleared: Everything else was a suggestion, suggestions that I explained why they were not implemented (because they were previously suggested) or an just an explanation. Questions are created randomly, at random amounts. So at some point in the event, even with a randomizer, I'd run out of a certain event's questions. I make more trivia questions than I do for any other event. Whatever questions I do not use out of the whole month's event get pushed over to the next. ->Wheel of Fortune questions are made up, on the spot. I've provided an explanation for all forms of feedback and will no longer be explaining why one question was made one way. Rather than giving a set: "No I will not implement this." I'd preferred to give an explanation (which I had done with previous suggestions and then your randomizer suggestion). Giving feedback/suggestions, do not mean they will be added to the event, that's why they are suggestions. There's no need to say that I'm not considering something if I'm giving a detailed explanation about why it's not being implemented or why it will not work. I have been quite open to suggestions, just because your suggestion isn't being considered doesn't constitute that I'm never open to anything. Check the ATW thread. I created the event on my own with the intention of having a fun event for players because of the more recent server issues with lag. Considering that we can barely host events now, with the potential issue of lag spikes and freezes completely ruining an event held to the whole server. Other staff members help out when they can, which is more than appreciated (@Tim @Manny @mike [that one time] @Christopher Chance). Simply put, I decided to make the event because if I was a normal player I would love to have at least something going on. I can't even join the event because I'm the one that hosts it. At the end of the day, it's a virtual item that really doesn't equate towards anything. I'm even being considered of being biased, (lol) would I really spend 5+ hours making/reviewing questions just so that a specific team can win, then later spend another 3-4 hours hosting the event & patiently handing out prizes? No. You are more than welcome to ask/confirm any of this with:@Tim. TL ; DR There's no need to say that I'm not considering something if I'm giving a detailed explanation about why it's not used, why I will not use it, why I will use it, etc. Thank you for joining the event as well as leaving feedback, hopefully you can join next month's event and feel differently.
Thank you for hosting, and I do hope to sign up for the next one as well. There were many aspects of the event that were different from what I expected, but I realize that some of my posts may have seemed pointed. Don't know if it means much, but I do realize that you take the time to hosts these and both I and my team members appreciate it. In the future, I just wish that players would be given notice of which sections count the most, as prepping for the barely-used NPC Chat category took me a large amount of time (considering our team was a newer one, I was trying to secure at least one category). While you seem to suggest that the end result being a virtual item should render this event more of a "fun/casual" experience, also consider the possibility that some people who don't have any such items yet (and feel extra competitive) can take these seriously. Just a possibility.
