Hello everyone; This thread serves as a comprehensive guide to running/playing MapleRoyals on Android devices/phones. Specifically, this setup involves the use of Winlator, which is a windows emulation app/environment that makes use of containers to simulate a desktop, as well as the graphics components that are used in similar fashion to WineD3D, DXVK, OpenGL, etc. This does not involve any streaming from your desktop, this does not involve making a VM, nor is any rooting required. Game controls are also achieved via an input layout that you can customize and configure within Winlator–I’ll add a youtube video I found on this topic further down the thread. Before I continue, here are some FAQ’s I am going to anticipate; Spoiler: Will this work on my phone? What are the system reqs? This was tested on my Motorola G Power-2025 edition. I cannot give definites on which specific models work, however I will post my specs to give you guys an idea of what should be the minimum/recommended; Processor: MediaTek Dimensity 6300 5G octa-core CPU (2.4 GHz). Memory (RAM): 8 GB RAM . Operating system: Android 15 (If you managed to get this working on older Android OS’s or custom ROMs, such as Lineage or Graphene, please notate in the thread and I will update the OP.) Obviously, if you have something like an Ayn Thor or a Motorola Razr, you may have an easier performance with this. Other cases while playing this, your phone is gonna feel warm. To be completely honest, you may need a beefier phone than what I’m using for a normal experience. So far I can head to Lounge, Boat Quay town, and Cash shop. FM, Festival hall, and possibly hunting has it crashing on my end. As stated previously, let me know which models you’ve successfully (or unsuccessfully) tested with and I will update the OP Spoiler: Why did you make this guide? A few reasons: 1.) I had enjoyed playing Royals on Linux for a number of months after trying to wrestle with Winetricks on getting this game to launch. My only limit to the game was being away for work and wanting to play this on my phone during my lunch break lmao. 2.) As an extension of point 1, I had grown absolutely sick of playing Maplestory M and the P2W BS that came with it, and I want more people to enjoy a mobile mushroom game, Nexon-free. Without further ado, here’s what you need: -An Android phone that somewhat fits/Exceeds the specs I listed above, 8gb ram, 2.4ghz processor, 128gb internal space, Android 15. -Winlator 11.1 apk, which you can get here: https://winlator.org/ https://github.com/brunodev85/winlator/releases As this is a third-party app, you’ll need to enable “Install apps from untrusted sources” within settings. -A clean MapleRoyals install; You can pull the entire install folder from your Desktop/C drive as opposed to the .exe setup file, as that doesn’t work on Winlator. You’ll also want to copy this folder to your phone’s internal storage. Spoiler: --Configuring Winlator-- 1.) Upon installing Winlator, the first thing you’re going to do is create a container for the windows environment; Hit the “+” on the right corner to begin. 2) The top half of the configure screen defines your graphics drivers, audio drivers, and screen resolution. Set resolution to 800x600, Disable HUD mode, and it is up to you whether to keep the audio driver on or not: 3.) As shown above with the graphics driver and DirectX wrapper, this is using my phone as a reference, your device may vary. To assist with figuring out which setup worked on my phone, I honestly had to Google-Gemini my phone’s specs with regard to Winlator settings, and then I chose based on what Gemini concluded from my chipset; 4. As you may have seen, the bottom half of the container setup has multiple tabs for system options; The first two tabs, “Wine Configuration” and “Win Components” I have simply left alone. The former denotes the desktop environment, and the latter simply switches between Native windows components, or those built in by Wine. 5. Environment variables: Leave the presets alone, You will be creating four entries in this tab, as these are meant for performance/stability. They are: BOX64_DYNAREC_SAFEFLAGS = 1 (<<This is for Anticheat to work or the game will crash upon launching) BOX64_DYNAREC_FASTROUND = 1 BOX64_DYNAREC_FASTNAN = 1 STRICT_DIVIDE = 0 6. Folders and Drives: Winlator utilizes drive mappings for access to files. This is where you copy your Royals Install folder to your phone’s internal storage (I tried it on SD and it wouldn’t point to it, let me know if external SD works) Hit “Add”, Select a drive letter, then click the folder icon to select a location; 7. Advanced settings: Set Box64 Preset to Stability. Startup Selection should be set to Essential, and Windows version should be set to 7. On Processor Affinity: This part is a little tricky, as you’re basically selecting which CPU cores to use/not use. In my case, I turned off CPU0 and CPU1, then left the rest alone; Hit the big blue checkmark on the bottom right to save your changes. Spoiler: –Setting up an input pad to play– As Maplestory uses specific key bindings for character movements, skills, NPCs, etcetera, I found it easier to make my own touchscreen controls with what I normally use; Enclosed, you can find a video to do this within Winlator here: Spoiler: –Running Winlator/Royals– After we’ve set everything up, time to launch the container. Hit the play button on your container as shown, and the desktop will launch: Your screen will be in landscape mode, and your cursor will start at the top left corner. Tapping the screen and moving your finger will move the cursor, and it’s pleasantly precise with its input. Double click the drive letter containing your Royals install, then double click on MapleRoyals exe to launch: Huzzah! The login screen at last! In order to enter your login creds, you can hit the “Back” arrow on Android to pop up the Winlator side menu, where you can select the keyboard option, as well as the Input controls for later: Once you’re logged in, Select the server and channel, pick your character and PIN entry, and you’re set to play!
