CWKPQ will have a chance to drop crushed skull, which makes a perfect crushed skull more than just a dream.
You really dont know how wrong you are... Crushed Skull pales in comparison compared to an ST unless you can bring SI along with you everywhere you go... Crushed Skull is waaay to rare for what it gives. Take this from a guy who spent a few months gaching at perion with little to no results. Its not a fun having to wait to get lucky (if it ever happens) to get a decent weapon that will end up getting outshined by their sword counterpart.
I play a paladin my self i play a blunt wep pally. i am fine with home rare it is and i haven't got one my self.
I will still stand behind making it craftable, or implementing some sort of level 110 1H BW if there is one.
i think its quite sad that some people dont want to allow some boost for blunt/axes. its like they want blunt/axes to be worse then sword users. i dont understand. i think the suggestion to allow Crushed skulls to be craftable or to be available as a drop (even if its horntail) its quite good. its at least "some" help. it will not make blunt better then swords anyway, so no panic here, sword-users!
I don't mean to sound ungrateful or am I trying to aim my frustrations at you, but I've been kinda patient with waiting for the new source since may/june 2015, and with no ETA of the new source i feel like its a lack luster band-aid. BUT!! I'm not saying that this wont fix our current problem with the crushed skull. The main issue would be with bw's and Axes in general. They are supposed hit higher numbers in exchange for stability, but with the current way the bw/axes are, they are also slower and even at the same speed as a sword. They end up weaker. Especially the 2H variations of bw/axes compared to their sword counter-parts. There is absolutely no way you should ever be using the 2h axes/bw's in the current game state. I'm absolutely fine with bw/axes being weaker than swords, because i've always liked the way the weapons look. All I am trying to say is that we shouldnt be penalized so heavily because of this. Just something like buffing the speeds of the bw/axes to fit their counter-parts. Maybe then I could actually use them without having to put on some tv while I attempt to kill a snail.
No just no. Blunt weapons are fine as they are. If you fine them not worth using go sword but don't make changes to something that is working as intended.
Cavemanohyea. i just dont understand the login here. isn't diversity something we want? your logic says: play swords, as they are and will always be better then bw/axes. this thread is about to figure out a way to make bw/axes more balanced to swords so that we get more bw/axe users, to have a more diverse world. leaving at it is will just make bw/axe so bad that we are forced to choose swords. if we want to be successful. who want to spend months playing this game with a worse weapon-type? yes, some people will use it, but usually people will choose the best weapon. but if the difference between the weapon-type are smaller, then people will choose the weapon they like the most. theres no excuse to say: it is how it is, because right now Mapleroyals are not 100% accurate to v62. things are different, because of NX, because of rates and custom stuff. of course we want to play "kind-of" v62 that is why we are here, but that doesnt mean we cant make some changes. it will not affect the gameplay at all, just allow a bit more damage when you wear bw/axes. so, again. i dont understand why some of you think its bad and dont want to change anything...
I was probably the first person to use and axe or bw. I picked an axe warrior not because I care about damage or killing bosses as fast as possible, but because I enjoy axes. They look so damn cool and they're different. I knew perfectly well what I was getting into and I accepted that. If I were in it for the deeps I would have chosen a sword, but to me the game is much more than just damage, and I play to enjoy the game. I acknowledge that we can't always get what we want and pick what's most important to me, and the most important thing to me is making an awesome looking Gimli character. Not damage. Other classes don't even have a choice on what weapon they want to pick. Shadowers, Night Lords, Marksman, Bow Master, Corsair, and Buccaneers all are locked into one weapon type. Only Warriors an Mages get a choice, and Mages hardly get to choose, if they want the damage they have to go wand. Dark Knights have to stick with spears if they want to be able to boss well. That we even have a choice is more than most classes get, and of the classes that can chose there are only a few people who decide to complain about their own choice. I never see DKs or Mages complaining about being "locked" into a certain weapon, probably because they realize that one is better and stick with it. The class and weapon we pick is our own choice, a choice most don't have, so if you don't like it maybe just choose something else.
Rob, still that doesn't say anything about balancing bw/axes. as we have a customized Mapleroyals already. you logic here is that we need to stick with what we have and play bw/axes just for visual needs. Spoiler: ranting about other weapons i could also argue that DK have some bad aspect that forces us to use spears, the problems here with DK is because nexus where lazy, instead of creating 2 sets of skills we have 1 set. do we need to stick with that? well it seems nobody want to change it so we are forced to do it. but its not good and optimal. even so, a DK can use "both" weapons, and make most of it. at least its something. with archers, we have 2 different weapons. so its not true at all. you can choose bow or crossbow. pirate can choose knuckle or gun. rogue can pick claw or dagger. warriors can pick swords or spears. but since we have 3 different classes, not 2. it should be at least 3 different weapons. still we only have 2 for 3 classes. mages the same, we have 3 classes but only wand/staff. i would love to have different weapons. such as "rod". since most mages choose the luk-less build we are forced to use wands. staff is better and faster but require luk. thats a problem "again" that nexus created. do we need to stick with it? well it seems "again" nobody want to optimize maple. better to play a broken game then fix it. for warriors we can not make a hybrid. if we do it will get hard to play. instead we are forced to choose between swords and bw/axes.
My point is that you have a choice to play for optimized damage or not. It's a choice. If you chose not to and complain, you're complaining about your own choice. If you don't like your choice you can always choose something else. Also, you're so wrong about other classes. Yes, archers can choose crossbow or bow, but once they do their stuck with it. You CAN go hybrid warrior without losing out on anything in 4th job, I know many who have. Warriors and mages are the ONLY job with more than once choice for weapons in fourth job.
You cannot really go hybrid warrior as a Paladin. Maxing out the charges for both swords and bws does not work at all. That being said, even if changes to the stats of bws or axes are not done, it's absolutely ridiculous to have to gach for a crushed skull...I've spent 90 gach tickets and haven't gotten a single one. Just making them droppable from a boss like Zak or even better craftable, would alleviate a massive issue.
Please make sure to skim posts before posting. It has already been said twice that crushed skull will be available from cwkpq in the new source. The issue of availability has already been addressed.
I haven't run all the damage calculations to a precise level yet, but if the DPS calculator that was linked on the first page is anything to go by, I think axes are at least in a fine place. From my recollection of trying out both swords and axes in second job (never got far enough in 4th job to try out axes for hero unfortunately), my observation was that axes have higher ceilings, while swords have higher floors, meaning that it balances out, at least in 2nd/3rd. However due to the way that brandish in particular deals with slash/stab ratios, axes come out ever-so-slightly behind in 4th job. But for one thing, this is how it was in .62, and from what I understand, one of the main goals of Royals is to adhere to the "core" of .62 as far as damage, class balance, and whatnot go. So that's one reason why I can see people wouldn't want it change. And for another thing, well, it's no secret that axes/bws are worse when it comes to damage; people who opt to go this route do so knowing that these are subpar options in terms of a min-maxing mindset. That's something that others have brought up in this thread and I agree with that. Really, I think it just comes down to what the developers value more: a strictly .62, nostalgic experience, or a more liberal take on the .62 formula which addresses flaws of balance. Though as someone who's played a hero up to 160 + in multiple .62 private servers, and someone who's gotten a paladin to 150 as well, though, I will say that the bigger problem in regards to balance lies with paladins in particular. IMO paladins are quite possibly the worst 4th job class in .62, requiring much more work and dedication while never being able to come close to the results of Heroes or Dark Knights. Blast's range absolutely kills off Paladins' usefulness for most of the bosses in the game (can't even hit Zarm #2, rip), while the volatility which comes with elemental charges means that in many cases, Paladins can never reach the damage peak or even baseline of berserked DKs/Heroes with comparable attack. Furthermore, attacks such as Brandish and Crusher are much more ideal for scenarios such as Zakum and Horntail, whom are both considered to be premier .62 endgame bosses. Not to mention that Brandish/Crusher both have like twice the range of blast. While DK may trade off a little bit of damage stability (harder to strive for consistency with the mechanics of berserk) in comparison to Heroes, they at least get an extremely useful party buff, so there is a tradeoff in regards to damage there. However Paladin gets the worst of both worlds: extremely volatile damage range, awful attack range (blast), and no useful party buffs to speak of, especially since Threaten doesn't work on bosses--and even if it did, it's only -20 weapon def, so big whoop. Anyway though I've probably rambled on too much about Paladins; I'm not intending to hijack the thread, but personally I think that if you're talking balance, the much bigger issue here is between Paladins and the other warrior classes, because there's just such a wide gap between Paladins and DK/Heroes. But then again, actually balancing out those classes would mean deviating drastically from .62, and by this point in Maple's life, virtually everyone should already know what they're getting into when they're choosing a class. As many have said, the choice of going Paladin (or axe hero for that matter) means that you're choosing to go for a less optimal route in favor of some other perk; perhaps uniqueness, trying something new and different, or simply deciding to look cool--some people love the appearance of axes (I personally think they look pretty badass), so more power to them. In the end, the choice of whether or not to rebalance these weapon choices lies in the fundamental question for the developers here regarding whether to remain faithful to .62 and provide a more "nostalgic" experience, or rather to "fix" perceived flaws in the system while deviating a bit from the old formula.
Let's be honest here guys, we don't really play for the numbers that pop up when we press shift right? i named my paladin Skullcrusher and went the blunt weapon route because i had a plan to make him look tribal style and the crushed skull worked with that, what i'm saying is who actually cares about damage? i have seen islanders, HP warriors, melee mages and a bunch of other fun and creative stuff, to me DPS is of course a vital part in playing this game, but i believe i speak for most of us here at royals if i say that we're here for either nostalgic purposes or because we love the community, if you like high numbers popping up i suggest you go play world of warcraft.
Actually, people in Royals care all too much about DPS. There's even an attack range thread where people can try to show off their godly ranges. Some people don't care, but I think most do.
