Thanks, although im less thankful to mapleroyals now when i found out the lack of strictness to keep the v62 originality....ex: fixing LPQ, HPQ, glitched OPQ, bugged quests, unclickable npcs ect. Im sure they are working hard and all but with the v142 hairs and faces coming up - bits of my soul are dying to the fact that they would important something to keep some spice for the long term players when we actually came here for nostalgia. Which is bugged ahaha
You have only been on the server for a few weeks. I have been here since June. When we wiped a few months ago, we did it because mostly everyone had end game content and most of the community was extremely bored, thus, we wiped the server. In reality you will get to that point where you will be burnt out and you will quit. So if we don't add new content to the server that only effects the characters appearance its not a big issue. Also adding new hairs to the game is not hard at all what so ever. Fixing broken PQ's takes a lot of time and also all the GMs that work for this server to keep it up, which I might add we do not get paid to do at all we do it out of the kindness of our hearts, we all have life's jobs and school. Also with what little competition we have with the other v62 nostalgic servers every other v62 server except classic ms has v142 hairs and faces. Also might I add the fact that most of the players on the server are requesting v142 hairs and faces.
There is no need for sarcasm Kenny. You lied and I pointed it out. I do it every time someone says that about the wipe because it brings up unwanted feelings and memories for me, it's nothing personal. You could have said people were leveling faster than expected and that the NX drops made things way unbalanced for some classes and that that broke the FM and ruined the gameplay for many players and that the wipe fixed many issues. Beating the dead horse "everyone had end game weapons and equipment" needs to stop though.
It was not sarcasm. I spoke for the entire community not just the people who had 20 attack pink adventure capes, 133 attack bow and 130+ attack stonetooths. I just simply tried to shorten my statement but I did it in the wrong way.
I wrote a book. I know i've only been here for that long, but what about my view on new in-coming maplers? Is the main focus keeping the old players or satisfying the new ones so you can keep them playing in the future? And i know all of this and i know its hard to fix PQ's when u have daily life. And i know that you dont get paid. Like i said in that long post i wrote is that the karma from giving all this for free is more than anyone could ask for. And because of that, like any donation - you should feel the greatest out of us all. Donating anything : be it time, money, volunteering, ect. gives yourself the greater gift then the one you give. I understand the ins and outs of being a dev, working for free - and not having all the time in the world to do the coding and java work or whatever program way you use. But at school, when you had a project - did you put all of your hard work into it? Or did u do it the easy way? Didn't your mother, father, or teacher ever say "Doing it the hard way is the best way."? Havent you ever tried your hardest at something and when u completed/won it you felt so great? Even though nobody was paying you for it? I know money motivates us all, and we wont put our all into it unless we are getting paid for our time. Except for a small majority of us who dont think of it in the way of "Money motivation". Even in maple, have u ever spent time helping a noob with nothing in return? You arent getting paid for those 30 minutes of helping him find Henesys Potion Shop - but in the end wasnt it worth it? For the greater good of helping that nooblet? TL; DR I understand all those facts of what you said. And i know there might or might not be other v62 with v142 faces ect. But if you really took a poll of the MapleRoyals community would it turn out that they dont mean "THAT" much to us? Yeah so the "majority" was at end game before some wipe. And you want to sparkle up the server with some character stuff sure. But what we remember from back in 2008 was the community of friends we had playing PQ's and helping out eachother. Seeing their new shitty VIP hair from Kerning City, and deciding whos going where in LudiPQ. I know this cant just be me even though i've been playing for a week or so. Everytime i come to a PQ (Henesys) or a NPC i cant click (SG), or a quest i cant finish because its bugged (KFT), a little piece in my soul dies because of the fact that i was so close to nostalgia. Oh how i wish i could finish it how i used to. Im sure sitting in my old maps with my old items is enough for me, but wouldnt it sadden you too? I know MapleRoyals didnt promise me i'd get ALL my nostalgic moments back. But really, these little things mean alot to not only me but alot of other maplers who wont speak up...or dont know what a forum is. I know people will get to 200, and soon enough move on. They arent always moving on to a new server. Sometimes people have to move on with life. Like new friends come and go. and as i said somewhere - The maplers here are like wind - they silently come and silently go. It's just a fact of life. You have to welcome in the feelings of old people passing and new people coming. I know it might be a goal to keep all the retired players here, but we are people and people move on to different things. You have to welcome the feeling of letting go. The whole server wont be dead if you dont import the v142 character faces ect. And even though i /really/ dont want it, and some of my friends dont either - its not like im going to quit immediately. I guess as i came in as a new player recently, i expected 100% originality that i can finally go back. And it's what i had received which made me really happy. And i've seen some old players coming back for the originality too, deep inside its what the players came here for in the first place right? Sure when u get to max level your story is close to finished, but thats just what maple is. Sure people then made rebirths - which extended this, but its not called Maple-NeverEnding-Fun-Cool-Items-That-We-Keep-Importing-To-Make-The-Community-Stay.Nexon and Wizet welcomed that there will be an ending to people playing. So they made character slots and that stuff that extened it. But inevitably, you have to let the old books finish and begin new ones. We came here to try and re-write our old books just how we first wrote them. Maybe it's just me complaining because i just ran out of milk in my fridge, but my book wasnt written with v142 hairs! If classicMS is the only other, maybe you need to hold onto your originality too! So what if youre the boring nerd kid in your middle school class? I love you because your boring and thats why i've always loved you. We've loved and lost the boring hard-ass grinding, nasty-VIP haircut MapleStory and thats the only reason we came back to it! So I realized. It's kindof like a dead end conversation about why the PQ's and the community "Hairs faces items" are so important to me/us because thats what we built off of when we were playing back in the day. I would literally pay 40 dollars/mo if LPQ HPQ LMPQ and OPQ (glitched with clouds) + the NPCS/Quests were working. It literally means that much to me because those times in my life were really important to me and who i am. But since im just another player and i dont have really any control over deciding what happens with the server and in what way its worked on / being able to work on it, all i can do is just keep trying to enjoy any nostalgia i can find whilst ignoring the people who are going to wear those face-hair items. TL; DR 2 I understand.
Cutie, I may be misunderstanding what you're saying, but I don't think you realise just how hard, time-consuming, and in some cases, near impossible it is to fix some of the bugs we have. Matt and John have put a lot of time and effort into trying to figure out what causes certain bugs and therefore what can be done to fix them. A lot of bugs have been fixed, hacks patched and security concerns taken care of, but some bugs are so random that it's extremely hard to figure out exactly what combination of factors triggers them. I should probably also add that the day-to-day running of the server takes time and effort too. As a long-term player and and avid forum-reader, I might be no expert on GM and Admin matters, but I am aware that there are many, many things that have to be dealt with on an average day, to mention nothing of - for example - problems with the host. Given the volume of workload that our staff have to deal with, plus the need to keep current players interested and to appeal to new players, it makes a lot of sense to add in things that can be done relatively simply and quickly while other stuff is being gradually worked upon or pondered. To give an example other than new hairs/faces, Kenny and the rest of the staff gave us a fun Christmas event (<3 the Snowblower!) which has proved really popular. I'm sure most of us wouldn't have wanted to miss out on that! Just something else I'd like to mention here: not only are the staff working for free, but the server's running expenses are eating a huge hole in Matt's finances and as the server owner, he's at risk of Nexon taking legal action against him if he gives out any in-game donor rewards in order to encourage more people to donate. ("Profiteering off Nexon's software".) The wonderful nostalgia on offer here comes at a (potentially) high price. No clue if I made any sense there as I'm very sleepy! If I'm talking out of the wrong end, y'all are free to tell me so! =)
