full screen is not well supported, leave it in window mode and try playing with macbook display &/ zoom settings instead

 

holy crap, I finally got this to work after attempting this multiple times over a year.

Currently on Ventura 13.4, using Crossover 22.1.
Used BetterDisplay to get past the call error due to screen refresh rate. The key for me I needed to wait nearly a full minute or two after opening Royals with BetterDisplay for it to actually load. I kept assuming something went wrong if it didn't load within 30 seconds, so I'd switch the main display or something else back, which would then produce the call error. But no, I had to wait a full minute for the thing to load. Worked on both Wz or Img just fine.

 

I'm having this same issue here. I can log into most of my character's but one. Has anyone found an update for this?

 

Yeah waiting a longer time was what worked for me (previously I impatiently swapped to my built-in display only to see error messages again and again). Running on Macbook Air M3, Sonoma 14.3, Crossover 24.0.1.

 

Hey all. Struggled with this for a long time and wanted to share what's been most successful for me.

I'm on a mac air m2 running sonoma 14.5, using crossover 24.
I had been following all the instructions, using betterdisplay at 1024 x 768, connected to an external monitor, etc... and i could get to the login but after picking a character and typing the pic it would crash.

What I've found to be most successful, though still susceptible to crashing but at a much less frequent rate, is that when I login I don't pick Scania and choose a channel.

Instead, I click on the View All tab on the left side which brings up all your characters. From there, I only use the mouse to click the player I want, then click the Enter Game button on the right, click in the pic, and click ok with my mouse.

I couldn't tell you why this works better, but that's been my experience.

5. at 2nd PIC, the game gives me the error "unable to connect to login server. please try again later"

Context that may be relevant: i am travelling at the moment, downloaded the game when i was in morocco(had no problems there), now i'm in egypt and i'm flying off to thailand today. im not sure if it's an IP problem. please help ):

Hello! First of all thank you for the guide, it was very thorough and useful, im happy to be playing maple again after so long. My only issue at the moment is Ive downloaded betterdisplay to use with crossover and theres no "create new dummy" option in the latest version i guess. i went for the create a new screen option and the game wouldnt launch when in that new screen, an error box would pop up. When i changed it back to the original display screen the game ran normally. I dont know what to do, ive tried dowloading resize enable and it didnt work either. My mac is a 2,6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7 btw. When i zoom in with the command keys the game crashes and i have to restart my computer, i really want to play on a bigger display, please help!

 

intel mac has the option to dual boot to windows instead of using crossover btw, you might not need betterdisplay too (i think only needed for m1pro, m2/m2pro, m3/m3pro, m4/m4pro?)

alternative to zooming in with command keys - you can change your mac display to larger text (system settings > displays > (built in display) larger text)

ofc make sure you are already on 1024 x 768 resolution for your game client (in game > system options > screen resolution)

 

What dual boot system would you recommend? a couple of years ago a friend installed virtualbox on my mac, does that one work?

ill try the larger text option in a moment, also when you mean in game do you mean in the mapleroyals system options or to find that inside crossover? sorry im bad with tech lol

Used the BetterDisplay application and switched out of the main to the temp (virtual) display before launching royals that was opened with wineskin. Switched back to main screen after 30s and royals was opened. Have occasional DCs after PIC but eventually it works. Thanks for the guide!

Crossover sometimes freezes me during login but sometimes let's me in. I dont know what to do. I tried every guide here so far. Macbook air m1 user here.

 

Guys nothing works, can someone help me out here?

perhaps you can try something like this

 

Sorry my mistake.

1. Macbook air M1

2. Sonoma version 14.6.1

3. I don't know what betterdisplay is and i don't have it on my laptop. My Built-in Retina display is 13,3-inch (2560 x 1600)

4. I have tried all the other settings including download both IMG / WZ, crossover settings such as windows 7, 10 etc. Tried to run with or without settings. Tried everything, none of them work. Tried to apply for compatibility mode via crossover settings, none worked. I have royals allowed in my settings too. I rebooted many times. I tried UTM windows 10 / 11 but both failed, too many errors etc.

I actually managed to play till level 7 i think. Then i went AFK for a few hours but i got disconnected. I tried to log back in but i couldn't. I feel like i need to try 100 times until i can log back in. It freezes during PIC part always. I took off the PIC but still the same issue. I had this same issue before i got to level 7 but i remember trying to login the first time into my account and i remember it took me few hours at least at the airport (using my own internet so nothing to do with internet). I remember i got in and i was super happy, but 2 hours just to login doesn't suit me at all.

I made a mistake with downloading a new crossover.. because i had 50 years of free crossover via PLISTEDIT.PRO but now it's 14 days again free trial ( you can only change it to previous day now so you need to do it every 14 days now which sucks ). This didn't work at all. Matter of fact, i can't even put Royals into full screen without Royals freezing completely which i have to close every single time.

 

Other than the suggested PIC workarounds already in the original post, there is nothing else to try atm. Feel free to contribute if you found your own workaround. It is not based off your internet and there is no known working solution.

You can consider wineskin winery when your crossover trial runs out.

Suggestion as above to zoom in via macbook native functionality or increasing macbook native display zoom size rather than fullscreen as that is a known issue as well.

 

So there is nothing we can do? What am i supposed to do lol? I don't know anything about computers and i've already tried everything.

What's the point of wineskin winery if can't even get royals to work in the first place? This sucks.

 

Didn't work for me:

1. Apple M1 Macbook Pro
2. Sonoma 10.14.5
3. Opened BetterDisplay with a new screen on 1024x768 (no "Create New Dummy" on latest BetterDisplay, but this is what I had)
4. Installed Royals, but nothing opens - only get the -2xxxxx code.

game needs to be launched on main display where main display is the better display that you've set up
once you have the better display stuff set right, the -2xxxx code will be gone
