No they don't. I won't explain what writing an entire server code means, but it's not what you think it is. It's a huge process of which they don't do. Of course they add their custom changes and codes, but they don't write an entirely new code.

You have not the slightest idea what you are talking about.
Here's Kevin saying exactly that, and you might understand why it was a huge process, and why there are bugs still to be fixed.

I'll jump in too. You can completely rewrite the server sided code without rewriting the code for the client, and vice versa. That is exactly what Kevin did here. Completely rewriting the server side of the game using what the client accepts and sends as a basis to figure out what is and is not possible. Not to mention, designing the whole database schema to allow for better data storage, resulting in smaller database sizes, faster retrieval of records, and a better infrastructure for a server that can continue to support 1000+ players online concurrently.

I guess im less debating your decision to critisize the means in which the new source was implemented and more about everything else you said in your oringial post in reguards to what the New Source. Its factually incorrect.

Anyways, you're right theres no need arguing. In the end we both just wish for the best. I wish you the best in your ventures on Royals going forward.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CAN YOU PLEASE STOP GIVING US TIME ESTIMATES ON WHEN THE SERVER WILL BE UP!! This past week has been incredibly frustrating. I understand that I'm just some guy and you don't owe me anything, but it's wrong to keep misleading us and then ask us to be patient. I don't know if you're lying or don't understand what you're doing. I'm sure the server will be great once it's complete (whenever that will be), but this has been extremely mismanaged.

I even made an account just so I can vent! But that's my 2 cents

This server won't be around forever, the admins are going to kill it themselves. Their ban appeals they try so hard to be legit but they are using open source and trying to be elitists, if this server is alive in 3 years I will be surprised, but at the rate this patch is going, I would be surprised in 3 months.

In the last few days we've been very transparent about the server's situation, including very detailed information about what exactly we're updating each time we try to bring the server back up.
We've stated that right now we're in the process of testing a lot of stuff on the public server, and have advised players to take a break if they don't want to be a part of this testing process.
So with that said, I have honestly no clue how you can perceive this as us lying to you, misleading you, or showing you that we have no understanding of what we're doing here.
May I ask if you've actually read our posts before making the forum account to vent?

How can this "bug" occur if Kevin wrote the source code from scratch?

Because no one writes perfect code? The larger a project the more time you'll spend debugging dumb mistakes and edge cases than actually writing it.

So it was a debug message? They way Matt said it, it sounded to be a official server message when players leveled up.

Note/disclaimer: This is purely a user/player viewpoint, not even staff related. But ya know what, I've been nice, time to be honest.

I dont think you understand a single thing about how coding works. If it was written from scratch, how can it possibly be wrong, right?
I dunno, why dont we look at Windows as an example? How many security flaws have been found and patched? How many bugs in the OS have been found? How many times have they released an update to fix something? Yet they obviously didn't write it from scratch, they must've copied it from somewhere!

Let's bring a more down to earth example. Nexon itself. Maplestory itself? https://forum.nexoneu.com/forumdisplay.php?1593-Bug-Reports Ever looked here? They obviously made the server themselves, but there's bugs in it. And they're a team of how many people? Certainly more than our small staff of less than 10 people who can code, certainly more than just one person doing most of the core work?

There's a reason songs like this exist:

Coding isnt easy. Scripting can be a pain in the ass. I've watched people try to script for other things and I've watched the smallest of things such as not capitalizing a single letter spew out an error. Did you know that if you write sendOk instead of sendOK you get an error and the NPC you're scripting doesnt' work? So, how can Kevin possibly make a mistake when he's scripting something, how can he possibly accidentally make a script send a server wide message when someone levels instead of when someone hits 200? Or underestimate how long a process will take? I'm sure you've tried to copy files over from a hard drive to an external before, right? You've seen it go from 1 minute remaining and then end up taking 10 minutes anyway. Things like this happen.

That's not what I asked. I know that it's easy to make mistakes when coding. I was rather referring to why he uses server messages to debug things. Wouldn't it be better to send the message to himself only?

It wasn't used for debugging. You know the message that gets sent when someone hits level 200? That was being displayed for everyone who leveled not just when someone hit level 200.

Edit: And my entire post was in reply to your whole rant posting about how there's no way he could've written the source by hand, because it's got bugs and issues and so obviously he must've just copy/pasted it over from a dif server source.
