Update New Source Update #5 11/01/17

I understand your frustration, I would probably be the same if I was actively playing at the moment, because like you said the temporary broken server at least let you level, but here's what I think (and I haven't actually been active or a part of the staff team for the last while when this update was coming out so this is just based on what I've seen).

The New Source has been a work in progress for about 2 years now? maybe more, I'm not sure, but it started off as only being tested by GMs and then Open Beta came out, we had about 1 week of people playing on it and then it went back to same 4-5 people testing things. That led to it being tested for another year maybe after it was open to the public, and since I am guilty of not being on it either myself I can't even tell you how much changed during this time.

Fact is, with this update, as much as it might suck for now, you get so many people on doing things and reaching so many more issues, plus the entire staff team is suddenly working on it instead of maybe 3 people because there's this insane urgency coming from the players, that I think in the last 48 hours alone there must have been as much progress as we did over the last year or 2 in terms of testing and fixing.

I understand that it feels like a step backward, but I also understand why staff would have wanted to push it forward because I truly believe that otherwise, all the fixes that were done and will be done over the next month would have taken another year or two. Literally, ask anyone who's been around for 2+ years, we all thought New Source was a myth because there was so much to do and it's been worked on for so long, I'm still amazed it's actually up and running.

 

I wouldn't say the server dc's every single hour (I've been to multiple boss runs without dcing) but, do agree with the Fm button thing!
