A few others have already mentioned so it's a bit repetitive at this point but I don't understand how a new world would make any difference? Even with some of the changes proposed, like you said within X time frame the same issues would be back. Private servers will always have a huge disparity in the way certain in-game factors such as perfectly scrolled weapons differ from the official servers. As it stands, it takes five days to get 35 gach tickets which doesn't include any community or in-game events (for example, turning in the Christmas items just gone could net you an extra 1,000 NX points a day) and even nerfing this would still give those who are prepared to hoard NX for a while an advantage over those who aren't. As others have said, unless WS are removed completely the issue will still be just as bad. Even increasing the boom rate on chaos won't fix things, you'll just have people spending more of the inflated currency (whatever it may be) to keep scrolling, if that currency happens to be chaos scrolls themselves then there will be something else, because at the end of the day what else is there to do when you're level 200 and have done your daily boss runs? Wipes typically cause a lot of people to leave, they feel they've been slighted because of the hard work they've put in. Those that stay can also deter newer players a lot of the time, even in the most welcoming of servers the elite and popular players will always be the elite and popular players, newer players won't get a look at until they are also in the eyes of the community an older player within the community. Plus all the issues @inversion mentioned with grinding, leeching etc, there's a pretty solid and obvious reason why so many servers in the past have banned the use of multi-clients and why many will continue to do so, but that is a completely separate and off-topic issue. If people are joining a server based on an older version of the game expecting something new and for things not to get stale, then they're approaching it for all the wrong reasons. Keep in mind there will always be large portions of the community who think to an extreme either way -- if things are changed too much it is no longer a nostalgic experience, if things aren't changed enough whatever is done isn't good enough. Not everyone can be pleased and finding a middle ground isn't as simple as doing X, Y and Z. Again, as a simple example of above in regards to multi-client, there will always be large portions of people who are very strong in the opinions of how it should be handled so either choice will be poorly received by some. If speed infusion was fixed tomorrow, do you think everyone would be thrilled? Probably not. Obviously this is just my 2¢ from having previous experience in the matter, @Matt and the staff will always have to make decisions that will only please a minority for as long as the server is running. In my opinion, don't expect the base of your issue nor anyone else for that matter to change because a new world, changes or fixes roll around etc because there will always be something else. Older versions of games are extremely exploitable because they've been around for long enough to find said exploits and fixing one issue (multi-client, WS, Chaos, SI etc) will typically bring about two newer issues as people find a work around and a newer way of exploiting certain aspects of the game. All else fails, become an Islander and remove all issues completely.
I love this server as is, and seriously, I just hope that bugs such as SI and mage ults will be fixed ASAP. As already mentioned, this is what should be focused on. New Source = Win. The GM's/Developers already have enough on their plates as is, and I don't think this should be a priority whatsoever, let alone considered seriously at this point in time.
Everyone knows this. It is not possible to create a game like this with zero updates that doesn't inevitably allow ALL players to reach end game godly. The point is for this new server to reach this point, it is going to take years, first of all, and by then who knows whether a single world will be wiped, or even another will be created, or even if mapleroyals will still be around. The point is the issue is fixed for a long period of time and more information can be gathered based upon how that world evolves. I don't really see how this is a valid point. It is sort of like saying "Dont take this medicine or get this shot, because it is only a temporary fix - youll need to take it again next year so you might as well just never take it." Okay what does any of this have to do with a new server with proposed different rules? How do you know this? Let's say there are 50 perfect weapons now (Random number). New server, WS drop change from gacha is nerfed to 1/10 of the original. Are there still going to be 50 perfect weapons? No. So now how is the issue of everyone and their grandmother running around with a nonupgradeable end game 100% perfect OP weapon just as bad? How are chaos scrolls that boom not something that can help? Yes at the end of the game all you can do is upgrade equipment. What matters, in my opinion, is how many people are able to just create these things. Look at MapleLegends. Nobody on that server has a perfect anything, there isn't a level 200 yet, a 10 att cape is considered godly as shit. Things actually have value and mean something. Unlike Royals, where it's a game of "Oh I don't want to level? Ok I'll sit at gobys for a month and then poop out a perfect OP weapon." or "Ill sell ULU2 leech for a month while dual clienting at x spot and drop chaoses on pink adventure capes (which come at ABSURD LEVELS LIKE 9 ATTACK CLEAN) until I get an 18 att cape.". I know how easy this is because I had DONE it. I sat at gobys and just found things to drop chaos scrolls on every day. When there are countless numbers of people that do that, because spots and scrolls can be exploited like that, all of a sudden you have a pretty damn good amount of 13,14,15,16,17,.18+++ attack shoes capes gloves and perfect weapons walking around...which shouldn't be happening. Thats why we are proposing a new world, not a wipe? We aren't asking for changes to nostalgia or updates. What it essentially is is game balancing. There is nothing nostalgic or balanced about every person having an 18 attack sock, 91 attack craven, 94/95 attack sleeve, 139 attack ski, 155 attack skull crusher, or 145 att dragon shiner, or god forbid multiples. Please tell me what other exploitable aspects of the game there would be? There are not just countless of other things to exploit. Not to mention WS and Chaos aren't even exploits, they were put into the game - they are not exploits. There really isn't that much that can be exploited outside of multi clienting, buff exploits, and absurd meso farming spots such as gobys All else fails, become an Islander and remove all issues completely. @Nostaigia I don't want to bring this off-topic, so, I'm just trying to play devils advocate and state it isn't as simple as nerfing a few things here, changing some rules there and adding a new world. I'd be more than happy to go in to each point in detail for you, and believe me there are countless other exploits to just certain maps, multi-client etc. Also I apologise for the comment about wipes, I read your TLDR wrong, my bad!
Even with all those reasons, splitting up the already small community isn't worth it IMO. Maple IS supposed to be a MASSIVELY multiplayer online game, and while this server has a relatively high population for a private server, 99% of the server is a ghost town. I see where you're coming from though. I standby that the monetization of the daily NX we all get for free is the root of the problem. While I believe it could be feasible to remove gach tickets from the cash shop and make them boss drops without an uproar, people here will cling to their tradeable AP resets like guns in the U.S.
I'd love to hear what these countless exploits would be. Please, if you know of any, share them. It would benefit the entire community, because *eventually* a new world will likely come out. Might as well share them so they can be fixed, but frankly I don't believe you. The only reasonable argument against a new world so far, to me, has been that it would split up the community. Is everyone still forgetting that the second most popular private server runs on ~150 concurrent players? That a year ago we were about half the population than we are now and everything was fine and dandy? The larger the population with the current server set up, the larger the problem. That is just more NX, more chaos, more WS being tossed into the system. I stand by it just being far too easy to reach end game OP/richness. At one point when I played GMS, I hopped on Kradia when it came out and had been somewhere around top 3-8 richest. Kradia definitely had a higher population than MapleRoyals did, and you didn't have people running around with 18 attack shoes and perfect weapons until the christmas white scroll event was exploited. I still stand by this is not how it should be, and also stand by the fact that a new world would not kill MapleRoyals. Will one world be more popular than the other? Probably, and keep in mind if it is seen as causing a problem with the community/player base they can simply...get rid of it.
I think you also need some perspective, just from reading your posts, you seem to be a pretty hardcore player that play(ed)s for long hours. It's not nearly as easy as you make it out to be I don't think. I really think a better solution to the problem you're describing would be fixed by the removal of NX=mesos, not a new world. Cause that's the issue, too many people gaching with the daily NX and the market is flooded with these items. IMO the crux of private servers is that you got a handful of people playing a game meant for tens of thousands. If we were handing out 8k NX every day to 10k players, then we'd REALLY have a problem.
I could be wrong. But I'm pretty sure you can't change the drop tables or any of that stuff on one server without changing the other server. I know other private servers have had multiple servers (Scania, Bera, etc.) and they couldn't change much without it affecting the "main server". I'm personally not against the addition of a second world, mainly because I dislike logging into scania whenever I get on. But I don't think it would work out because of the limitations to the possible changes. One of the reasons as to why I have stopped playing royals is because it got boring to me. I started doing the exact same thing everyday, and the server got very stale. I'm just waiting for the new source, but I'm guessing the exact same feeling will return after a few weeks. If a new server is possible without ruining scania, then I would be totally down for it, and I'd probably come back and try it out.
Ya I pretty much assumed you can't change one world without changing the other, but I've yet to hear from @Matt or @Karven to say if it is plausible or not. Even if there were no changes to be made, I still think it would be nice to have a second world open eventually. Although it may be, technically, essentially the same thing - there is a very big difference and feeling when playing a brand new world, and it would allow people to play in a server that is more, should I say, balanced due to how new it is until it reaches the inevitable stages that the current world has.
How about now? Seems like it would be a good time when (if?) the new source functions properly. Looking at gtop, half the votes are gone. I'd say half the server quit for good, and the half that are still voting, many aren't even playing, just stashing nx. It'd be a good move in rebuilding the population.
You just said half of people left, do you legit think that splitting the remaining half into two servers is gonna make things any better? I have no idea tho why you guys think people left, 1200 people is still visiting forum daily waiting for updates/server to be functioning again. It's obvious only 10-15% quit for real, and rest that aren't voting are just taking a break from voting because they accept the possibility of server dying. And if it dies, they don't want their previous votes to go for nothing and be categorized as a waste of time the past few weeks/months. Staff is doing a good job, not a single server out there been online for so long and had so good security and help.
no, they made a mistake by giving into the idiot community's need for 'new source' by the new year and releasing it way too early. i dont know anybody who would prefer the state of the game now to the state of the game on the old source. all the new source brings in terms of content is making some classes more viable in dps and QOL changes for drk & sair as well as removing QOL- tp to fm button and tp rocks. (dumbest decision ever). i HIGHLY prefer intermittent dcing at bosses and gfxing at zak over this crap. and no i dont want to go to any other server because this server is what maple should be. my biggest wish is for this server to be run by nexon and not amateurs doing this in their free time and run the exact same way as oldschool runescape- changes are voted in by players.
Even though I agree with most things you said, Nexon=p2w, evan/aran/shitran bullshit, op stuff, etc.. No thx.
You're answering to a post that's 1 month and a half old. And i have no idea why would you even answer to my post with all that crap. I never said going with new source was a good idea. That crap about nexon running this server is something that would never happen so you pretty much posted that just to flame the staff. You think you can do better go run your own server.
the staff made a mistake and they cant admit it. im not flaming them for their lack of skill, im flaming them for their decision to release the source when they are clearly too inexperienced. why do something that is out of their ability when the potential gain is miniscule.
