But I don't think that's what this thread is about. The thread expresses dissatisfaction with the current meta where NLs beat mostly everyone at mostly everything.
A maple leaf has many edges and goes in many different colors and we want this to be a Maple Story not a NL Story. Some variety in classes is fun but I believe the way to go is to tweak/add onto the content rather than tweaking the NL class itself. So I agree with @OrcaGel

I made a suggestion before with custom bosses for certain classes and maps which can spawn multiple bosses just for pure end game challenge. 100% of people were against it and referred me to mu lung.

this is the game. some classes are better mobbers (mages) some classes are more tanks (like warriors) who can tank at zakum and kill the minions of the zakum and help range attackers get easier shots on him. if you want to "buff" the warriors, make the bosses summon more minions. some classes are more like support class (HB, SE, SI). if u make a squad for a boss u wanna have atleast 1 of the supports (SE/SI depends on attackers), a tank for the minions. and range super duper strong attackers, who are bad at mobbing (NL,SAIR,DITS who can throw all their college funds on boss). I know that the current "meta" doesn't really support that, but there is absolutely no need to nerf this class just because everyone wants to play it. (i mean think about it, nerf something because it's most fun?). and moreover if it will get nerfed i think that 90% of the players of this server will quit since they invest so heavily into that.

Shadow Shifter is different for both Shadowers and Nightlords. I believe the Shadower version has a 10% more chance of working than the Nightlord version, so changing only the Nightlord version should be possible.

I personally don't think there needs to be a nerf to NLs just buff the other classes, so what if everyone becomes a bit more powerful? Then just release pink bean in the future and then boom! New end game high difficulty boss!

As someone who has played and washed 2 Night Lords to 19k hp and 21k hp, and reached very high levels on both, the only thing that could be a potential nerf to "even the playing field", for NL vs other classes, would be to nerf the 150% potion duration Alchemist skill. The Night Lord class itself, has MANY drawbacks. The biggest one I haven't seen anyone mention in this thread, is that the Shadow Shifter skill, even if procced, the debuff of said attack, if there is one, will STILL seal / stun you. When I boss, I don't even want to see shifter procs anymore. I prefer to be completely missed. Night Lords low HP without washing is a given. Therefor the HP wash meta began. You cannot attack if there are mobs in your face. If you aren't very coordinated during zak and its only NLs and no warrior, its possible the mob management can get out of control and annoying. Just because you choose a class that doesn't have the raw single target damage a NL was MADE TO DO, doesn't mean they are OP. It just means its a class that was meant for ONE SPECIFIC REASON. If you don't want to only boss on your character, you choose to play other classes. Night Lords are very strong single target. And thats all they were made to deal damage for. The only boss you even use your Avenger skill for is Zak, and thats purely because the mobs HP is low enough to warrant throwing 2 Avengers, instead of TT'ing them down.

Night Lords aren't OP. They were made for single target damage. Buff other classes and maybe lower the % of the Alchemist skill to make attack potions more fair to other classes (and on top of this raise their duration too to maybe make all classes 12 min apples and NL stay 15. )

It's like not nerf NLs or buff others, and these were how classic maplestory works.
After all, this kind of theory is good.
But ppls came here just for old - classic maple, that's why NL always be famous.

The differences that were supposed to exist between the classes aren't as distinctive because of how accessible it is to break the mould of how tanky certain classes can be due to there not being restrictions or constraints of any way to stop one from getting enough HP to do anything.

The only real way at this point is to buff other classes not nerf NL

Or make changes to improve the quality of gameplay in MapleRoyals so that there are communities for PQ and Grinding at all levels. Not just a Lv135+BossingStory server.

Nobody grind on MapleRoyals anymore. PQ and grinding communities are dead on MapleRoyals. Just bossing left.

Night Lords are ONE of the strongest of the attacking classes but they didn't break the game. Whatever that means. New source update changes to Horntail made Night Lords the preferred class for Horntail. Night Lords aren't powerful enough that people prefer them for Horntail, it's just that Warriors cause problems for Horntail runs and Corsairs actually require skill.

Horntail runs before new source would typically include at least one warrior because it would maximize DPS. A single warrior could triple hit for a long period of time which would greatly decrease the time for main body.

New source fixed weapon cancels and removed ~bosshp. Without ~bosshp, it's difficult to judge when to properly use Holy Symbol because squads typically do not want a Bishop leeching EXP. A Horntail with a warrior means that the wings will die sooner and the arms have low health. When the Heads use weapon cancel, the atttackers might not have a safe target to attack which leads to frustration. This causes squads to exclude Warriors because it's not fun not being able to attack anything during the boss fight.

As for Corsairs... honestly I don't really discriminate between Night Lords and Corsairs, provided the Corsair is competent. The main complaint I see here is that Night Lords are basically equal if not better to Corsairs despite Corsairs having to focus. The only difference is SE and apples. Night Lords have alchemist and they spend less per HT but I'll cover that later. Corsairs don't need SE which is a plus because anyone who has done Horntail as a Night Lord without SE knows the pain and frustration that accompanies this experience.

Alchemist and Apples.... they're 15m and dropping. If you feel as if the money saved through Alchemist is this significant then make a Night Lord instead of a Warrior.

If you made a Bowmaster/Marksman expecting to be stronger than Night Lord then you chose poorly. These classes are suppose to be weaker than Night Lords since they have a party skill. They don't have to suffer when the only SE in the party dcs/dies in a boss fight.

If you made a Corsair expecting to white Night Lords easily then just make a Night Lord because god forbid a class that actually requires skill in MapleRoyals.

Hey Vita, i always read that NLs rely heavily on SE more than other jobs. Mind enlightening me why?

Night Lord damage without SE <<<<<<<<< Night Lord damage with SE.

    From Sila's NL guide: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/a-comprehensive-night-lord-guide.23303

Triple Throw deals 150% damage per hit without any critical strike bonuses, and 75% per hit for Shadow Partner hits. Critical chance for NLs is 50%, and a critical strike adds +100% damage. This means that:
    Per hit average: 150% * 0.5 + 250% * 0.5 = 200% damage
    Per TT average: 200% * 4.5 = 900% damage
    Average DPS: 900% * 1.667 = 1,500% damage per second

Now, if you have Sharp Eyes, you’re a lot stronger. It adds an additional +15% critical chance and +140% critical damage. This is the effect on your Triple Throw, in the end:

    Per hit average (SE): 150% + 390% * 0.65 = 306% damage
    Per TT average (SE): 306% * 4.5 = 1,377% damage
    Average DPS (SE): 1,377% * 1.667 = 2,295% damage per second

I don't see how a support skill makes up for it, you'd only bring 1 BM/MM to a run but like 3-4 NLs so they have a huge advantage. I'd rather have SE as a self buff and an increased hurricane damage instead of a party buff. Having a buff can also make you getting replaced by a mule and not be a real attacker.

And about the Corsairs, they have to work extremely hard to dismount and focus in the whole run without chatting while the NLs semi-afk holding TT while still doing the same damage or higher. Not to mention high avoid means less chance to die and pots cost much less with Alchemist (if you use multiple apples it can save you a significant amount of money, and now even stoppers got expensive).
There is also the mobility advantage, NLs have the best mobility in the game and are the best class in APQ and any sort of a GM event that involves exploring maps so there's that too.

Now if you don't think NLs are broken read smegas and see that 90% of the smegas recruiting to HT are R>NL. Do you think it's balanced at all that a single class is wanted more than any other class?

Thanks for the detailed explanation! But based on this, SE will boost all other classes as well right? So why is NL only the one dependant on it, and corsairs not reliant on SE? Im sure they can benefit greatly from the crit boost as well

Cause they don't have a critical skill like NLs do. When you already have 50% chance to do crit the extra damage is very significant but when you only have the 15% chance alone it's not really powerful.
Also the higher damage % a skill does the less significant critical bonuses are (cause critical is additive and not a multiplier, it's 150+100 and not 150X2) so for Sair who deal 380% damage per shot with cannon SE will only give around a 5% damage bonus on average.
