Removal of rule 30 - transmitting Smegas in languages other than English. NO!!!!!!!!!

That's a good point and I'm glad you explained it! I understand the reasoning a little bit better now. However, if someone needs that sort of help in certain language, they could ask for it, but in english, can't they? They also have the option to join non-english speaking guilds, which I believe it more likely if a player has weaker english.
I wouldn't mind so much a smega I don't understand here or there, asking for help or a guild even less, but I'm more afraid of the full discussions people will have that'll just flood the chat window, full of text no one else would understand. If anything, that's more alienating.

@xCharliexD wouldn't you get that specific help easier if you spoke in a language all or majority of people understand though? It's broadcasted for all players to see, so it's considerate to keep that in mind. You wouldn't like being in a group of friends as the only one not speaking the language rest of the group is, right?

We can maybe work on some "unsaid rules" like;

Look for Bossruns, Partyquest, trades in english.

And thats what everyone have done at this point.
I dont see trouble, maybe some inside jokes in our circle of friends, not targeting anyone we dont know.

 

I dunno but I cant help but feel like this only further helps to close off the TW and Chinese communities specifically as they are the largest non english speaking groups on the server, to the rest of us English speakers. I know its not a huge deal when you talk about what language a Smega is written in, but english being the common language between all of us atleast bound us together in that aspect.

@LonelyCloud I agree with @Michael. In my experience I have encountered many players who don't speak understandable English. My native language is Spanish and many times I've served as a translator just because people didn't understand some Spanish speaking people.

Given the option to smega in another language would only make it easier for players to communicate. If someone is smega-ing in Chinese or Spanish is because they are only interested in reaching those who speak those languages. However, I agree this can be abused by sending rude comments in other languages but I'm sure people will report them and have GMs check them.

 

I think overall the quality of smegas is pretty low. Half of them are nonsense/spam/drama. Throwing "languages I don't understand" into that mix doesn't make it any better imo.

Wish there were separate channels so I could mute them all except party/trade.

 

Yea, if its me, I can speak in english if i ask for help, but there will be people who doesnt speak english, so they will ask for help in their own language, and the people in the server who speaks the same language will catch their atenttion and maybe help them, generally when you are in a world where everyone speaks english but your main language, you can feel alone sometimes, so if you see a smega you can understand properly, wouldnt you be more than happy to help or talk to that person, yea I don't like being in a group of friends where Im the only one who doesnt speak the language, but I did it at first, had to use google translate and save all the words I could learn in my mind, the world is crazy and when you like a game, language is not a barrier xD

 

^ But you do realize it won't be just people who don't know any english asking for help, right? That'd be just a smega every now and then (and even now people have managed to ask for help in english anyway), now it'll be loads, even conversations and arguments and in many different languages, so your argument doesn't really cover anything else but.

 

To be honest I don't care, I welcome this.

1. We haven't even seen the effects of this rule in place

2. Half the bullshit smegas about dumb shit annoy me so why the hell are you* not allowed to be annoyed by another language? Because I just about understand your* incoherent doge talk because it resembles the English alphabet doesn't mean I am happy I can somewhat understand it. Would rather not know you* are talking shit.
