I’m genuinely curious why you want to make Royals into something that already exists in other private servers. If you don’t like it here, just move to somewhere which is suitable for you. Royals caters to people who want to relive the old MapleStory environment of our childhoods. For many, it’s an opportunity to hit 200 with a reasonable but still challenging exp rate. It takes at least months of dedicated playtime to achieve, rather than years upon years back in the day so level 200 was only a pipe dream. If you’re curious why the server is 3.2x exp, new source 3.2x exp is equivalent to old source 4x exp. It’s enough of a challenge to make it rewarding when we get there, without being ridiculously prohibitive. For your reference, I was the 113th level 200 and the server had been around for three years (post 2013 wipe) by that point. Royals is also a place to optimize our characters how we used to always dream. We can make perfect weapons and ridiculous att gear. We can be the pros we looked up to as kids. These items take months to achieve, but they’re still possible. It takes a year or two to truly be at the top tier of one’s class, but it’s all achievable to do. Royals is also somewhere to rebuild that circle of friends who we would meet in FM (or rather, Henesys back then). Because yes, Royals is so big that we actually do have a Henehoe equivalent community who couldn’t care less about leveling and min maxing. There’s a place for everyone, by virtue of just how great Royals is that people join and stay to make such a large and active community. You can make a great experience out of here if you put in the effort to talk to people, actually make friends, participate in a guild of your choosing, curate a buddy list, invite people to do activities with you and just ask them if they want to boss/APQ/stalk so and so and hit them up for a chat. For most people as we can see by its player count and gtop standing, Royals has it right. Not for everyone though, and I think it’s fair to question why you don’t explore the other options out there if you’re so unhappy with things here. One main point for you is how Royals is LeechStory. Particularly the point that people leech their own characters. And that’s true, but do you realize fundamentally why? Multiclienting. But back in the day, we required another entire computer to play on a second client, which was and still is not a very feasible thing to do. Also, this is why Royals players use so many mules: because we can. If you dislike how people can make and use multiple characters to benefit themselves (via leveling as quickly as possible via leech and/or bossing with 1-6 players per run via mules), you’d do very well to go to Legends instead. I don’t think at all it’s threatening to Royals to talk frankly about Legends. After all, we’re here and not there and they’re now... fourth on gtop anyway. My point is: why are you complaining Royals isn’t what you want when there’s a server which does have what you want? Sure, Royals is the largest community. But that’s because it’s Royals and it has the formula for being what most private server players want. If you hate leeching so much, go to Legends because they don’t have multiclient capabilities to self-leech in the first place. They also can’t mule for bosses. And heck, you said you didn’t like the 3.2x exp rate here so go there with their 2x exp. Sounds like a great fit for you. They do have some leech selling activity because it is, as it always has been in official MapleStory and private servers, a stable income per hour activity by which to fund your character. But then if you get in a kerfuffle about how selling leech is required to fund a character, that’s ironically more true in small private servers with limited economy. The funny thing is, if you hate leeching in Royals so much, you probably should keep playing Royals. You can play Royals and fund yourself to endgame gear without selling leech. I daresay most top level players don’t sell leech at all these days. Why? Because unlike other private servers, we have the playerbase and economy to fund and sustain a character through APQ and bossing splits such as Zakum and Horntail, which are options at level 135 and 155 respectively. You have a valid point that party quests here are barely used. I think it’s entirely solid feedback to suggest buffing party quest exp to a specific number, like 5% of the exp for the maximum level of that party quest per round. You can make a fair argument that party quest exp should exceed per hour the leech exp for that level in order to incentivize party quest play. See how that’s constructive feedback? As opposed to having an antagonistic attitude with no real substance of a proposal to discuss? All in all, Royals is so successful because it’s Royals. It has been objectively number one and it has been for three years now. Changes are done with careful discussion and fact checking, such as the DPS calculations done to rebalance buccaneers. Rather than threads like these. Edit: For elaboration on just how multifaceted our community is.
Hi Shiyui, Just wanna clarify, Legends does support multi-client currently and yea they do sell leech quite often
Totally forgotten about how we used that as currency lol Think is 200 or 300? Don't remember anymore lol
Ooh interesting, thank you for the correction! I was reading their forums today to fact check, but didn't come across any multiclient announcement. Granted, I spent less than half an hour there. Rip my 2016 recollection. My bad, thanks crimson!
I probably will just recommend @Satra to play OSM - Old School Maple 1x exp with no 4th job to be added, pure grinding and no multi-client Note: Not trying to promote other servers as I don't play there at all, but I believe that server is what Satra actually wants Edit: Play OSM at your own risk as they are exposed to install spyware in their client
I'm still sincerely confused on why you're on Royals then. Nostalgia is subjective, as people stated earlier, but if you don't want nostalgia, period, then you're really in the wrong place. We're never going to have level 250 or new classes or cubes here. I'm not sure what the point of this thread is if you flat out don't want a nostalgic server.
I didn't say i don't want a nostalgic server either. You guys were the ones who kept bringing up the word nostalgic and i was just pointing out why the server is not that nostalgic. Maybe i have been playing this server for too long and that's why i need something refreshing added. The server is 6 years old. It's time for like a new class or something. Aran would fit the server perfectly. But i'm sure this is out of the question.
It isn't entirely Royal's fault that the game is incredibly repetitive, old school maple is just super fucking boring & repetitive in general. While I would personally like to see new additions to the game, things that are exclusive to Royals (Introduce Ellin forest with a Royals-made questline, enemies, bosses, etc etc) & changing up similarly unfinished areas to have unique things, I get why they don't do it. Since the server is marketed on Nostalgia>All else, the server tries to emulate old maple gameplay, even if it does get incredibly boring after 5 minutes.
I’d also like to point out that nostalgia is different for everyone. Example, when I say “elementary school” we all have a thought pop into our minds, it could be a memory, or what our old school used to look like, but I gaurentee it none of us ever went to the same elementary school lol or knew the same people. What I’m saying is, we’ve all done the same thing (attend elementary school or grade school, or w.e your country calls it haha) but we all have a different memory of doing it. Just like how most people in the 90s grew up playing Pokemon. I’m sure many childhood Pokémon teams were similar, some might’ve even been the same, and then there’s the kid with 6 magikarps trying to beat the elite four wondering why they can’t do it lmao. We’ve all played the same game, and some of us have different memories of it. Nostalgia is based on the person and what they were doing, it’s not really a group thing.
The reason I quit GMS was because when I returned after a break my 10 atk wg was useless and potential scrolls were a new thing. Maybe I'm old but I like repetiveness. The part I enjoy with this server is merchanting & scrolling and I think the changes seems perfect. If you are interested in change I'd suggest u make a poll survey.
The leech-centric economy is what GMS would be like if NX was free. It's just something doomsayers will need to hold. Many players are drawn to this server simply due to their disagreement with the direction GMS took (potential, class homogenization/burnout) and this server has a great system that lets you get that "end game fantasy" but still requires you put in the effort. Its just enough effort that I can be happy with my progress playing only a handful of hours a week. Also getting into the flow state while grinding is relaxing after a long day at work. I don't disagree with some QoL things like an HD client, etc. but gameplay outside of class balance adjustments shouldn't be touched IMO.
