The direct opposite of your statement means that it can be hate speech if it is discriminating based on a set of factors (sex, religion, gender, race).

Seems like you left out the part about objectionable behavior (harassment)
I will just highlight the parts where the "c-word" might have crossed under Objectionable Behavior (Harassment).

Objectionable Behavior (Harassment) - The act of engaging in any sort of rude, harassing, vulgar, obscene, hateful, threatening or abusive discourse with another player, or alternatively in a setting in which unintended audiences may be present such as all publically transmitted chat or serverwide messages. This includes persistent badgering, flaming, mass defamation or disruption of another player.

Not going to reply anymore, you obviously don't understand.

edit: like you said in the post above, insulting someone with the c-word is harassment and not hate speech.
    You finally see

No worries, maybe someone will explain it better. Thanks for trying though

edit: I disagree with what you said above. I feel insulting someone with the c-word should be considered both hate speech and harassment.

Please don't misunderstand my posts, all I am addressing is that saying that "leave it to private chats" is a bad solution. That is all. I wasn't here to argue with anyone, I am just addressing whatever people keep replying to my posts about.

I think we actually agree on this all, cause I never said to avoid taking precautions, I suggested and even agreed on you that people should exercise precaution. ~f2 I'll leave it to people to do what they want knowing that any conversation could be screenshotted. Good talk, I don't think we need to make another thread if we already agree that precautions can be taken. I don't think we actually disagreed at any point LOL

Yep, Discord messages are used by staff for evidence that is more serious, not just a simple curse word, I totally agree with that. I do think what you said about "how they got to that point, the amount of hatred to follow a group of friends just to report them" is a better way to understand how this drama came to be and how we could possibly fix it. This is a much better solution proposed than, "leave it to the private chats." That is something that both those parties could have done, but chose not to do ~f4

You answered yourself for me. Having to watch for people deliberately putting themselves in a position to hear me say something they deem offensive, when they have multiple tools at their disposal to avoid such speech, and said speech is not even being directed at them, is not fun. Honestly, there should be some form of harassment or ToS abuse penalty for such actions.

I agree with you that the person can choose to ignore any speech they deem offensive. They can also utilise any kind of tool to avoid such speech. But let me ask you this though, why should the player trouble themself to do this when other players cannot follow the rules that they agreed upon before even playing the game.

I feel that a good start will be to separate camping/stalking hackers with minor infractions. This will allow people to still to catch hackers.

I can only assume that the player base is mostly adults (18-30), so personally, I can't understand why language is such an issue here. However, to be very clear, if someone is being downright racist of course that's a reason to report, but I have gotten my dms blown out because I used a term of endearment within my community that was perceived as racist. I seriously cannot wrap my head around wanting to, or feeling the need to waste your time to be a keyboard warrior over banter.

If that's how you feel, then maybe you can suggest something like make the game M18 and allow for curses and vulgarities.

You mean, allowing camping people in fm?
If anything, the TOS should add harassment penalties for people who do so.

Maybe allow camping/stalking for hackers but not for FMs was what I meant.

Telling me to "play something else because I do not like how language is policed" is not fair. I choose to invest my time into this community and I am participating in this discourse because I enjoy playing this game.

Because your austere interpretation of the ToS is just that, an interpretation, and (most) people are on the same page about whats cool and whats not (discriminatory language or repeated insults directed at a single person or group) but because of people like you the Staff will have to waste time and resources to make a list of no-no words to police your feelings and make shit even more rigid.

Nothing about finding hackers is relevant to the conversation and nothing about it needs to be changed.

Sorry, don't get me wrong. I'm not telling you to play something else. I'm just advising you to make it a suggestion if that's how you truly feel about it. This is exactly how I feel. "I choose to invest my time into this community and I am participating in this discourse because I enjoy playing this game.". Who knows, maybe one of these suggestions might actually get implemented?

This is your initial suggestion when I mentioned I might camp in FMs. You wanted a change by implementing some sort of harassment for camping/stalking etc.

I highly doubt so. If the community truly feels that the ToS of this game can allow these words, then maybe the management of this game should really take some action?

I feel that it is actually relevant. We can agree to disagree. If stalking is an offence, why should stalking hackers becomes punishable to the stalker?

This is the response with the most wisdom that I've read here.

    1. Players trying to get others banned over petty stuff and personal disputes (guild vs guild) just adds stress to the community when this game is supposed to be a relaxing enjoyable game. Like you mentioned, most people are adults with real life struggles and don't need more stress, especially in this year 2020.
    2. If somebody is using racist or discriminatory language, aka hate speech, I understand how that wouldn't be tolerated. But I've never heard of "c word" or "d word" other than being curse words which have no history of being hateful or prejudiced towards a group of people. Yes, somebody could use these curse words in a way that could be harassment. But, harassment is usually more about having malicious intent or persisting when asked to stop.

I find it crazy these guys got perma banned. Meanwhile, I occasionally see smegas that make blatant sexual innuendo that are much more disturbing than "c word". Either way it's just a curse word and unless it's used in antisocial behavior like disturbing the peace or harassment they alone shouldn't be ban worthy, much less perma ban worthy.

Yes. You are purposefully and unnecessarily putting yourself in another person's space in order to get a report for something you have 100% of the power to avoid, that is not directed at you, and does not harm the server. Its childish.

No, they shouldn't. Anecdotally, in my 7 years here, a vast majority of people do not think and act like you are. If the community feels these words are fine in context, aka not discriminatory or harrassing, then the staff does not have to make new rules in order to protect your feelings. You are not entitled to have the world around you changed by others to fit your wants. Have a gram self-responsibility and just blacklist them.

Because in a situation where someone says naughty words that rustle your jimmies, you have 100% power to take care of that, and it only affects you. Others are not hurt by the big bad meanypants saying dick and pussy, only you, and you have complete control over your buddy, guild, alliance, blacklist, etc.

In a situation where there is a hacker, you have no power to change that, and the effects harm the entire server in various ways. You must have a GM take care of it as you cannot ban that person. There is also no interpretation when it comes to hacking. You either are or aren't, unlike speech which has many other factors.

It does harm the server, even though not the majority. It still harms the server.

Back to the main question, why should the victim be imposed on any responsibility?

Yes, the person stalking cannot do anything at that point in time. Getting evidence of hackers also saves staff some time.
