Hi Royallers! We have a few staff changes to announce today. First of all is Joel (@Joong), who after almost 8 long years of service as a staff member, has decided it's sadly time to move on with life. Joel has contributed hugely in various aspects towards the running of the server, from catching hackers, to wz editing, scripting, designing and fixing content including quests, events, items, and more... even taking the lead in public communications through beautifully written GM blogs (which we will continue the tradition of posting occasionally). It simply cannot be put into words how thankful we all are for everything Joel has done during his time here on staff, and he will be sorely missed by many. We wish you all the best for the future, Joel! GM @Peter has also decided it's time to leave due to getting busy with work and obtaining a promotion. Thank you for your work as a GM, Peter. We wish you the best for your future endeavours. We are happy to announce the return of a familiar face to the GM roster... @Yan is back and ready to take up his role once again as GM and crack down on rule breakers! Welcome back, Yan! And finally, Yeehaw (@yeepog) is the newest addition to the development team. He will be focussing mainly on client edits to take our client to the next level, so keep your eyes peeled for some new and refreshing client changes soon. Please give Yeehaw a warm welcome! - The MapleRoyals Staff
Mad respect to GI Joel @Joong It was an honor to work beside you and hopefully I may have the same luxury once again in the future!! WELCOME BACK @Yan and WELCOME ONBOARD @yeepog !! I can't wait to work with yall!
Wishing all the best for @Joong with his life and welcome back to @Yan and welcome aboard to @yeepog!
Its really exciting to see you back! @Yan, mad respect for all the hard work the past, and hope for the best in 2022! Thank you for volunteering to royals @yeepog ! Reaaally excited to see that sell all button All the content you built in royals, its no small feat. Its simply wonderful. Best wishes to you @Joong, thank you for contributing 8 years of your youth into MapleRoyals. Thank you @Peter for contributing to the staff team, see you in game soon! GZ +20 auf helm.
Really appreciate the work Joong did, we were very fortunate to have him through all these years. Sad to see Peter leave, but a promotion irl is surely a good enough reason - appreciate your hard work Happy to see new staff and a legend return
Sad to see @Joong go, you were always a voice of reason and I appreciate you communicating on feedback threads and trying your best to make positive changes. I'm also very excited to see what @yeepog can do, goodluck!
goodluck to both of you @Joong and Peter! You guys will be truly missed! First time I saw a @yeepog post I knew he had to be part of the staff. This guy knows his stuff! Can't wait to see what he's capable of for Royals :3
As much as I want to welcome a (very much needed) new developer, I think I can speak for myself and some others when I say I'm highly skeptical about the addition of someone who just created a forum account less than a week ago. I've not been as active as other players, but the MapleRoyals staff has been known to only bring on people who have been a part of the community for a long time and seem trustworthy. Yeepog may only have good intentions, but seeing as how now there's a brand new developer with the skillset to modify the client, this also raises concerns for the player-base. For all we know, he could have been banned in the past for hacking, found a way to circumvent it, and then gained staff's trust (Yes, this is an insane hypothetical, but very possible). We're talking about someone with serious knowledge. Developers usually only change the IP in the client which triggers a warning in your anti-virus software. We've been told to add the client as an exception, but now I want you all to consider how this ties into security/confidence. He now has the ability to change the one file we've been told to ignore. With many feedback threads being revisited, you'll find a pattern of staff members pointing out the limitations of the client, which means that no one up until now knows how to modify it. With this, I assume that there's no way for anyone to verify yeepog's work. Sure, the intended changes may be thoroughly tested, but that doesn't mean he can't make other changes that others won't notice. MapleRoyals is one of the largest private servers out there, if not the largest. This means that someone that just showed up now has the power to exploit thousands of people's computers through this vulnerability. I trust that the admins know what they're doing, but until I'm confident about the new developer, I personally will hold off on downloading/installing any newer patches from Royals and just stick to voting. Regardless, thank you @Peter & @Joong, welcome back @Yan and I hope to see great things from @yeepog!
Yeehaw will be applying all client edits in the form of a .dll file which is then loaded by the client. We have full access to the source code of the .dll file and so will have the ability to check for any potential abuse and compile it ourselves. This method of applying client edits is the same as how we have been doing it for the past year via the mr.dll file. I have also personally known of Yeehaw through a mutual Discord server for a couple of years, so they are not exactly random person that we know nothing about. With all this in mind, it would be a missed opportunity to not give him a chance to help improve the server.
So happy to see staff changes. I personally hope that Staff can be buffed to scale its attack speed with SI, because everyone just uses elemental wand.
Thanks for the clarification Matt. It's info that the community definitely needed to know early on. I'm excited to see what kind of magic can be done because this opportunity is on a scale comparable to the New Source hype.
Hi! I appreciate you being wary of new additions who seem rather random, really shows you care a lot! I'd like to clarify, I'm not just some new person, or banned player, who joined the staff team. I actually joined MapleRoyals back in 2015, with another name I used to go by: Ghawn. The reason I didn't apply with that account, is because it's not the "identity" I go by anymore, and this one is known by more people these days than "Ghawn" ever was. I also might have created the account Yeehaw and forgotten about it, seeing as it was registered around when I originally wanted to apply for staff, and there's no activity on the account, or it could just be some user who took the name before me - which is why my account is named "yeepog" instead. I quit playing the game a few years after, because I was too fed up with HP washing at the time, but I have my level 13X Corsair character still! I was a previous client editor on MapleLegends, and the MapleStory development community knows me as the person who helps many servers, and like Matt mentioned, that is how we know each other. Well, I knew about Matt before he knew about me because I was a player here, but I hope you get what I mean! Also like Matt mentioned, I have given him the full source code for the .dll file, so I can not (and would never for that matter) add something malicious to the client. I will also be drafting up an introduction thread for myself and mention these things there, so be on the lookout for that if you're interested .
@Joong before i thank you for making royals what it is in all these years, i want to thank you for the time we had in ironman! Sure, ironman is a solo experience, but having a community that went through the same journey as you made it far more enjoyable, and you were a part of this community that made my 2 years of ironman so much fun. So from me, from all of the ironman community, and from all of royal's current and past players, thank you for your service
Thank you @Peter for your work and contributions to the server. Thank you @Joong for your contributions. I want to specially thank you for the unbiased, level-headed analyses and well worded posts. In the chaos that is the feedback section at times, your posts were nothing less than a breath of fresh air. Thank you for all you've done to ensure a wonderful game experience. Welcome back @Yan ! Super excited to see what @yeepog brings to our community. Thank you @Succubus for asking the important stuff and @Matt for clarifying. Looking forward to an introduction thread. While it's sad to see some faces go, it's nice to see a glimpse of a new, bright future.
Thank you for your service, @Joong. You were one of the best. @Yan happy to see you taking up the role again. All the best!
