Biggest difference here is that we are friends. He knew it was a joke and it didn't hinder him in any way. What peopeo did was targetted toxicity meant to hurt the other person. Please get facts straight before accusing people. Even the people selling him stuff could tell it was a joke.
The only clear difference is towards the people who knew what was going on, im talking about the general public here, having seen both incidents it is no different in my eyes, i saw babyrebs "harass" iChu, but at the time i thought it was a joke because the way it was portrayed was sarcasticly in my view, they looked like friends, but it turns out they werent. Now in this case what was the public meant to think again? All i saw was a group of people calling someone a scammer, and after seeing this person buying AP resets for 10m each( over the normal market price) 5-10minutes ealier, what am i supposed to think? Please dont try to defend someone when it is clearly a simliar thing when you broaden the view to the bystanders who see these smegas. You are giving people the wrong idea by even joking he is a scammer, because as i said you did not state you were joking. We dont know the sides to these storys unless someone states they are joking, do we? So, NO there was not clear differences stated. So get off your high horse of saying i am accusing you of something when it was a point of view, cop it on the chin like anyone else would.
First, let's all calm down. This whole "get off your high horse" thing is starting to get a little too much for this thread. Second, this thread is not about any specific cases, so it's best to leave them out of here. Also, I'm not sure if some of the posters have noticed this, but the Report Abuse format and evidence required to prove KSing has changed requiring more to be done on the part of the reporter before a KS ban is handed out. This should help curb some of the issues discussed over these past few pages.
Spoiler: last thing i'm going to say about the lyrium smegas These joke smegas contained several references to channel 13, which in my view is a clear indication that it's a joke, given that that channel doesn't even exist. You can disagree with me on this front, but I personally see a massive difference between the vitriol that was being smega'd about the first case, which included several references to being the most hated person on the server along with other extremely hurtful things, versus the stuff in the second case. I think that's pretty well represented in the fact that the first case definitely impacted the person in question's experience on the server, while the second person continued to conduct his business with no problems. We can agree to disagree because we're just going to go in circles, and what's been done has been done and there's no point arguing about it. To make this broader to avoid harping on the same specific examples, I think that part of the responsibility of being a GM is understanding those nuances of when something's a joke and when something's gone too far. In my time here (with specific regard to smegas, not going to talk about other harassment or whatever), I really have not seen that discretion abused in the biased manner that people in this thread seem to be convinced of. Of course, if someone thinks they've been wrongly banned, there's always the Ban Appeal section. We've seen bans be reversed quickly if they were warranted, so it's not that the GMs are unwilling to admit if they may have been wrong or mistaken. When it comes to more individual cases such as the one you talked about in your previous post about your friends, I think it's a two sided thing. Yes, I think people should not be so quick to report those sorts of things before understanding context, and yes, there are a few people on this server who seem hell-bent on banning people for whatever reason. But also, as has been said time and time again, this is a global server with people of all age groups, beliefs, and values. What you say in All Chat, smegas, and other similar public forms of communication should keep that mind. Yea, it sucks if people are out to get you, but if you don't give them anything to work with, you should be fine. If you do, that's on you.
