To be honest, I'm not against anyone using their real name as their game/forum name. But, sometimes for me atleast, it felt like you're not making sure there's a separation between your real life and your internet/game life. On sites like Facebook where you must use your real name and picture, I would say, it's acceptable since everyone else shares theirs too. But on here, it feels less acceptable to use your real name. I wouldn't say it's wrong to do so though. But a nickname is always better, or something based on something else. Say I used my real name, and everyone called me in my real name on the internet - it does feel kinda weird/awkward. But, on Facebook for some reason it doesn't feel that way. Maybe because you feel comfortable there a lot more.
I feel quite the opposite to be honest .. I enjoy having my real name as my forum name / ign's, I enjoy having my real picture as my profile picture and I enjoy posting many pictures of myself all around the forums .. I feel more open and more tied to the community that way and there's nothing coming in between my personality and the online community here .. I don't separate my "MapleRoyals life" with real life as I'm still the same real person behind a computer in game too. So what you see of me here is my total real self and I'm never afraid to show it either .. I don't think one could say either one is better than the other one because it's completely up to the person's preference .. There has been a lot of researches done on this very subject but no need to go off-topic So that's where my ign here comes from it started off as me introducing myself (itsKate / itisKate) .. How much I wish I could have snatched the ign Kate all those years ago though ...
I chose Xplicitnezz as my first ever ign on GMS, back in 2006. Reason was simple to be explicit to my point. Since than i've kept this Xplicit.
I can understand you, Kate. But to be honest, I'd like to tell you guys something else regarding the maple life and real life thing. As you know, the Internet is not always a safe place, and not everyone you meet online is nice and friendly like you and me. So, to avoid possible problems, I tend not to share my real life photo or name on places where I suspect people would use this information against me. That's exactly why I have made a separation between the online/maple life and real life. But, the reason why I haven't made this separation on, Facebook, for example, is because nobody can make that separation on Facebook. On Facebook, they require your real name and real photos - if you don't, they block you. Simple as that. It happened to me in the past, and I lost access to Facebook for a long time. I had to send them my real life ID card to re-gain access to Facebook. But, here we're not on Facebook. Although, sometimes, with the Like system on here and other similar things, this forums does feel like Facebook sometimes. But, I don't feel comfortable sharing my real life name or photo on here. Maybe Kate is, but I'm not Kate. Haha.

funny thing is I have a character named "schatzi" which I believe is the correct spelling. well im never gonna use that alt so if you would like to name change let me know and ill delete that character
Aww, that's very nice of you well I live in Zürich, and Schatzli is the correct spelling : Schatz (treasure) li(small). Perhaps Schatzi is the same but of dialect of another Kanton.
