At this moment, as far as I know, when GM events are held, it is announced in-game chat several minutes (don't know, can be 1 hour) before. I know that GM events are held only when GMs are available, so I do not expect you to announce it days or months earlier. However, isn't it more user-friendly if you announce it on Discord or the home page when you know that an event is going to be held? So that people can be ready and log in to participate? Thank you for reading. I just want to participate since all I see are happy people commenting after the events
Just announce any GM event like, 10 minutes in game chat before event starts and open the event entry like, 3 or 2 minute before event starts maybe? A specific Discord channel for events announcement would be neat too, doesn't need to be automated and all like this example : Spoiler EDIT : Also make use of the scrolling bar in game maybe?
GM events aren't announced on discord or any other sorts of media 10 minutes prior to because doing that would bring in too many people for the map to handle and crash as a result. GM events are announced 2-3 minutes beforehand in-game to reward players for staying online and playing the game! Furthermore, GM events are held almost everyday so even if you do miss one, I can bet that there will be a plethora coming ahead in the future for you to have a chance to participate in.
Yeah the event notices are short to maintain a viable number of players who participate in them. It might be worthwhile to consider advanced notice of events that aren't map-restricted though, like Hide and Seek. It could lead to really huge in-game events that players actively gather together for. On the other hand, there are always forum events which players have weeks of notice to participate!
I'd like to add in my perspective on the whole situation as well! If you don't mind haha. I really like the idea, however most of these events are usually 5-15min long, and it wouldn't be fair to make those who join early wait an extra 10 minutes for those to log in and join. I have also noticed a huge difference from when I used to host Events with a 5 minute timer, versus the 2-3 minute timers I usually do. During the 5 minute one I would log back in after DCing, to a plethora of PMs (and quite possibly a ton that I missed as well because I was actually offline too ) however during the 2-3 minute timer, I'm noticing I DC less (maybe 1 time every 10 or so I host) and I also notice fewer PMs asking for a re-warp compared to the 5 minute one. GMs crash too, and it's upsetting to me because I'll have people pm-ing me for a re-warp when I'm actually offline, so I'll never see it. (I'm sorry!) Too many people in one spot will crash over 50% of the participants because there's too many pixels moving at their own speeds (because it's controlled by other players.) On top of that, I have moved towards working on more backend things that unfortunately require a bit more of my time. For me personally, I enjoy a quick little Event I can host every few hours or so because it's a break from doing work behind the scenes. (Plus irl stuff too!) and I get to socialize with awesome players for a brief moment!
Ummm, what about event participants limit? instead of relying on the time in which it take people to get in, throw a map limit to avoid overloading the event.
If we did that then only 50 or so people could join an event. The issue is the overload of too many pixels moving at once or on their own and when you go out of bounds on the map (out of the players view on the mini map) and immediately catch up and load everyone as you move closer that’s where the DC happens.
i don't think is fair to "limit" due to dc issues (i only dc at event if i don't reclient before the run or sometime even old GFX can help no matter the amount of players ) but on the topic what about few waiting lobbys+run rooms just like halloween JQ race,eggPQ,ballonPQ... for example: olaola each lobby+room 50 players for event like RR same 50players or so + miror eachother room with auto kicks (it will eliminate the infamous gm favoritism aswell) it dosn't look good for royals to say sorry we can't properly organise event because of crash-load issues am sure there is many ways that this can be reworked to fit more players and attract players to log in more instead of quit-vote and wait for next event
So many things I didn't know! Thank you so much for your replies and for the interesting discussion. I myself joined an event a few days ago, and I have finally understood why this thing was not so simple
