General Remaking the remade maps

    I don't know where to post this to showcase my idea, but this feels like an idea suggestion and all, so I guess it belongs here?

    Anyway, I wanna talk about something that is not really important and all, but I just feel like I wanted to talk about it still. When the Staff released the 1024x726 client, some maps that was specifically made on 800x600 had to be remade and stretched just to fit with the client and, the Staff did a good job on it to be honest.

    I'm impressed that it does look good still, especially when resizing things, images tends to lose their quality and most of the time, it will end up looking like a blurry mess or pixelated mess. But as you can see, it does made the store a little... empty, in my opinion. Sure, it does fit the client resolution and all, but I feel like there's something we can do about it and I did just that by doing this :

    Instead of stretching the map to fit the client, I decided to keep the map size as it is, but added backgrounds to it to make it look faithful to the 800x600 times, but still fits on 1024x726. The only issue here is that the effort on this might not be worth it still as people rarely host anything significant in store or stuff and I feel like some people actually like the spacious giant space we have right now, and that's okay still.

    Basically, I took the idea from what Nexon did for Henesys remake because they did a good job on it, even though old Henesys is miles better than the new one.

    Anyway, here is more example of maps I remade so far :

    I don't know what am I writing anymore but, what do you guys think of this idea concept or whatever it is? Do you think it looks better or just stick with what we have?

    this looks really cool! The added exterior and the smaller interior makes it appear really cozy :)

    That looks really cool!
    But i think some other areas in the game will be harder to do in this way.
    For example, i kinda hate just how big are the new steps in kerning subway entrance after the resize, but adding exterior to the smaller version won't be able to replicate the same claustrophobic atmosphere of that map, so resizing is a better solution.
    I 100% agree with your approach for henesys tho, because wizet did it even in pre bb on maps like maya's home, or that house in maple island.

    I did tried making the same thing for other town, and I did one for Lith Harbor and what you said is true, it is hard to do the same for
    other areas too because I need to basically make the external part out of scratch and end results looks kinda weird to me to be honest... It seems like this approach only works really well on Henesys only.

    Speaking about Kerning, I don't think they needed resizing in the first place, as the map works well with its original size and the black background, like in this picture :

    Then it hits me, instead of making a new graphics, why don't we just embrace the darkness? I mean, it's probably the best solution for things that people don't even care at all except me to be honest, and you could just add a slap of a gradient on the edge of the map and boom!

    But in the end, I feel like the best solution is indeed, to just resize them or just do what current Maplestory did, just embrace the black bars and leave it be.

    Also, I tried fixing the Showa Hair Salon map and here you go!

    powerful content as usual, i know lots if people would love this.

    (though im a ride or die low res mapler, i love seeing the pixels and i love the old low res original monsters and maps before everything looked smooth and cgi-ish)
