How to Shoot Your Boss: The Definitive Sair Guide for MapleRoyals (2026)

So you want to be a mighty Corsair! You’ve chosen an excellent path. Sair are the #1 single target DPS in Royals, while also being very versatile. But sadly, Sair is the most underplayed and misunderstood class, and information is scarce; previous guides are outdated and videos/images don’t load properly.

IShotMyBoss here! (aka cagedmercury, cagedheretic, etc.) I'm going to show you everything you need to know about building and playing a Corsair. This is meant to be the definitive guide covering all aspects of Sair builds and play, but focusing specifically on bossing - Sair is a big-time bossing class.

A lot of my guide built upon knowledge shared from my Sair friends and from Dong’s old guide, as well as my own years of experience. I've had the good fortune of being friends and/or guildmates with many of the top Sairs on Royals over the years that have mentored me, including @PinaColadaPirate @TofuMasterD @eVolve and of course the OG @Dong (rip) for their wealth of information - these guys taught me everything I know and are true legends on this server. (I actually helped @Dong with his guide all those years ago, and this guide initially started as an expansion of that for bosses like Shao)

In terms of my credentials: I'm not the top Sair on Royals by any stretch (those are @Tim, @yann and @PinaColadaPirate). But I have been playing for many years, and I have some skill, and I’m ranked just outside the top 10 in pure range on server for Corsair at time of publication. I’d like to think that I’m closer to top 10 in real DPS when skill matters.

I’ll just put this quote from @Donn1e here to give me a bit of street cred (this quote is hella outdated as it's from the early days of VL before pros like Volleyfire and JohnSilver got in there and put me to shame, but still I'll take it!)

How to use this guide and general notes:
    • Use the Spoilers to expand and collapse the sections of the guide as needed for easy navigation and reference
    • DO NOT TRY TO READ THIS GUIDE COVER TO COVER. It’s less of a Guide and more a Wiki page on everything to do with Corsair build and play. It is massive (>80 pages Google Doc as backup) and encyclopaedic in nature and it will seem overwhelming.
      • You wouldn’t sit and read a wiki starting at the home page and then moving through them in sequence, you would reference each list as needed. You should use this the same way, e.g.:
        • If you're a new player: Skip to the New Players section
        • Before you create a new Sair: skim full Build section, plan HP and base INT goals
        • As you level your Sair: Refer to AP and SP build sections as needed
        • Before you fight a specific boss / if you get stuck on one boss: Refer to that specific boss in the Bossing Guide
        • Once you hit 4th job: Read and absorb the Macros, Tips and Tricks section in detail
        • If you are a math nerd or want to go deeper: Go to the Damage formulae
    • While I will be providing plenty of info for new players, this guide is designed for Sairs who want to operate at a pro level - I am assuming you will be going for 50+ CGS, perfect weapon, level 200 etc. and giving advice accordingly.
      • This means I will tell you the pro way of building a character, leeching it, and showing you what to do if you have the resources, in order to get sweaty and build a pro high level character
      • Some people hate on this server because this feels “expected”. You do not have to do this!~ If you just want to have fun and play your character how you want and not worry about optimizing or leeching, feel free. Everyone should play how they enjoy in my opinion. It is a game, after all! But the information is here if you want to get serious, or at least not make serious mistakes in how you build or play.
    • This guide is up to date as of April 2026. I will try to keep it updated, particularly for PB when it launches, but I do not make any promises; I take long breaks from this game!
    • The guide is not yet complete, with a few key planned updates, and certainly some edits.
    • Suggestions or corrections are welcome and appreciated. I don't know everything in the game and I'm wrong sometimes. If you find something I have wrong, or there’s a better way of doing it, please leave a comment, and I’m happy to playtest it to confirm and add to the guide, crediting you for the change.
      • The exception to this: I will not be changing the Sair boss tier list based on community feedback. Not because it's so perfect (though I'm confident it's ~90% accurate having discussed it with some the top pros on the server), but because there is an element of subjectivity here and there is no right answer, and it can (will) be argued indefinitely
        • However I will update the tier list if/when we get the balance patch (also soonTM) as that may affect the tier list substantially depending on what is done. I don’t imagine they will nerf the most underplayed class in Royals, but “shadow nerfs” by buffing NL more than Sair are a real possibility.
    On to the guide!

    Why play Corsair?
    • You enjoy being #1 single target DPS in the game* (see data formulae for proof)
    • Highly versatile class – decent AoE, good mobility, mob freeze, elemental attacks, screen clear ultimate (not as good as mages), placeable summons for farming, mob stun and hypnotize (meme)
    • You like playing a class where skill makes a difference - you can "punch above your weight class" even while underlevelled/undergeared (to a degree)
    • Most unique class with unusual mechanics like battleship and summons
    • Most underplayed class so you will stand out among other players
    • Cheaper than NL to fund and wash, and funding goes further in DPS
    • Good solo class that does not rely on party buffs to do decent and stable damage, but still benefits from SE/SI (unlike most classes)
    • Sair community is the best in Royals (except for Maple Islanders!)
    • It’s never boring—tons of skills to cast for every situation, and lots of battleship dodging!
    • All 4th job SP are useful to some degree (most classes have lots of points left for useless/broken skills)
    • You really love seagulls
    Why not play Corsair?
    • It is the most active class when bossing…no "AFK bossing" like NL; you can’t be deep watching Netflix while playing Sair. While Shads and NLs are relaxing in “chill HTs” you will be hyper focused and possibly stressed
    • It has the highest skill curve of any class
    • If you do not pay attention or have skill your DPS will be trash
    • Very ping dependent class. Mounting/dismounting is considered serverside action so the dismount speed will be greatly dependent on your ping. (Suggest to reconsider if ping your is higher than 250+)
    • Zero party buffs
    • Low avoid and no stance, and as a result it will be hard to play with mules or multiple attackers with bosses where you can get knocked off platforms (like HT)
    • Lowest non-mage base HP in the game – you’ll need to HP wash and be funded (more on this later)
    • Since most Sairs prefer not to have much HP (more on this later), you will die more than other classes except maybe Drk
    • Widely misunderstood class can make it hard to get into runs
    • Until 4th job Sair is TERRIBLE with low damage and not fun to play - ideally should leech until 120+
    • Since it’s underplayed, end game gear can be hard to find and you may have to make your own
To me, Sair is simply the best class, because not only is it easily #1 single target DPS but also can do anything, with literally no weaknesses other than mechanics and low avoid. Other jobs can do certain things better (Mage has better screen clear, BM has better afk farming, melee have better AoE damage) but there is nothing a Sair can’t competently do. Only Shad comes close to being as useful all-situations.

The reason (or punishment) for most of the uniqueness, low HP, skill curve and high activity level is the Battleship mechanic.

    Battleship HP mechanic

This is the most confusing, difficult and unique mechanic of Sair. 4th job gives a Battleship skill, allowing you to “mount” a battleship. You can only use certain skills when in battleship mode, most notably Cannon which is your #1 single target DPS ability.
Other abilities available not on Battleship (Rapid Fire + Octopi) do only about 70*% of the DPS of Cannon.

The battleship has its own “HP bar”, which is displayed in a buff at the top right of your screen:

Every attack that hits you while you are in battleship mode will deal damage to the battleship’s HP.

Battleship HP is not like your character HP, you can’t heal it with potions or abilities. When your battleship breaks, you have to wait 90 seconds while it is on cooldown.

So this is why Sair is so unique and skill based. Since your #1 DPS ability is only available in Battleship mode, and your Battleship takes “damage” when it is hit, your DPS is dependent on how long your battleship can live. (Seriously, I have played hundreds of RPG and they’re always the same kind of skills for warrior/barbarian, mage, archer, thief etc. but I have never seen a battleship that you have to protect)

This is why Sairs are so active when bossing. The strategy is that before you take a large amount of damage from a big boss hit, you quickly “dismount” from your Battleship so that it doesn’t take that damage.

Note that dodge, dismount, and remount all mean the same thing; in this guide, I will usually refer to this by telling you to "dodge" attacks, I mean dismount - but be aware that other Sairs will say dismount/remount interchangeably.

This means that you have to learn the animations for Boss attacks to be able to predict when they will do a large damage attack or a 1/1 attack (attacks that reduce your HP and MP to 1), and then dismount in time so that your ship doesn’t take that damage.

*off battleship damage can range from 70-80% of cannon depending on your stats, see section below.

    Battleship summary:
    • Keeping your battleship alive defines your DPS:
      • Corsair #1 DPS ability Cannon is only available in Battleship mode
      • Battleship has its own HP bar, and is unavailable for 90 seconds when it breaks
      • Non-battleship abilities do about 70*% of the damage of Cannon - i.e. 20-30% DPS loss out of battleship
    • Corsairs keep battleship alive by:
      • “Dodging” large attacks by dismounting Battleship just before taking damage
      • Taking advantage of iframes by tanking low-damage hits instead of high damage ones
      • Using HP based strategies (see below for more on this) low-ish base HP, and/or using static HP pots to keep HP low (similar to Drk)
Note to new Sairs: Don't be discouraged if your ship dies a lot at first! It will continue to get stronger every level until level 200 (200K ship HP)

    Sair bossing tiers

There will be some (intense) disagreement about this - high end Royalers do not tend to agree on much, and particularly tier lists of any sort. But I think this is pretty fair.

This is a boss tier list for Corsairs with knowledge and skill:
(V1 is in black background, V2 is white background)

And this, is a boss tier list approximation for Corsairs without knowledge and skill (i.e. play as if they’re NL):

As you can see, a bad Sair is bad at most boss fights. But the worst thing that unskilled Sairs do is not to hurt their DPS, or even their party's DPS, but to ruin the reputation of the class, and bringing down all the great, skilled, high DPS, cutie and lovely Sairs out there making Royals a better place.

A few notes on the above tier list for skilled Sairs:
    • Sair are low A tier at VL (good mobbing damage, top single target damage)
    • Sair are A-B tier at HT (skilled = B, top tier skilled = A)
    • Targa is cancer for Sair (see bossing guide for why)
    • Sair are not desired at CWK because:
      • Sair are best suited to kill Mage boss. Sair are S tier mage attackers, but Mage is the easiest boss to find attackers for,
      • Sair are B tier attackers for Pirate boss, but SE are better for Pirate, and SE main is typically needed for Archer room
      • Most pt prefer to have a Bucc for SI for bottom attackers, and for Bonus stage
    • For V1, very high damage Sairs are S Tier (see bossing guide for method) but I am not updating the tier list as most Sairs cannot reach the range required for this method
Advice to non Sair players/party leaders:
    • While some of these tiers can (will) be (hotly) debated, the undisputed truth is that there is a big gulf in DPS between skilled and non skilled Sairs. Like, the difference between S tier and D tier - more like the grand canyon
    • If you find a skilled Sair, BL them and bring them on runs, they are very valuable and usually hella friendly and helpful
    • If you find an unskilled Sair, direct them to this guide!! …and maybe don't invite them on things for a while till they have demonstrated improvement ;)
Should I make a Sair as my first character?

As much as I love encouraging new players to join, and all players to play Sairs, I would not recommend starting with Sair as a first character. This is because:
    • Sair are very weak until about level 125 and also horrible to play until 4th job, plus you will need base INT for washing (more on that later) making you even weaker
    • Building, leveling and washing any attacker is a significant investment. Sair are cheaper than NL/Shad/SE to fund, but they still need funding to build properly to grow to full potential. I strongly recommend that you have enough resources to:
      • Buy leech or self leech a character to at least 125, and
      • Buy APRs to remove base INT of at least 250 (2.5B), and HP wash (variable based on INT but budget ~2B+)
      • Buy starter gear (~3B for CGS, ~2-3B for gun + OA, ~500m for incidentals like scrolling zhelm, cheap bullets etc.) though you can spend far more than this easily if you have funding for it
    • In my opinion a great first character for this server is Drk or Bucc if you want an attacker, or any Mage/Bishop if you want to farm, make money and sell leech
    • You can always have low base INT, level through training/PQing and HP quest daily for a year or more (see below) but that time would be better spent making money for better gear
However, if you're a bit established on this server, Sair is a fantastic investment if you like the playstyle.

HP Strategy: Most classes in Royals aspire to 30K HP. Sair are the exception here; pro Sairs do not run 30K HP (I have never found an exception to this)

1/1 attacks are the reason many Sairs keep somewhat low HP. This is because the amount of damage the boss does to you (and thus your ship) is based on your current HP.

This is I say why Sair is cheaper to wash than NL. It is actually more expensive to wash than any other attacker because we have bad HP formula, but NLs want as much HP as possible where Sair stops washing much earlier.
    • Example 1: You are fighting Zak and have 30K base HP
      • You’re using Power Elixirs so your HP bar is full (i.e. you are at 30,000 / 30,000 HP)⦁ 1/1 attack will deal you 29,999 damage
      • If you’re in Battleship mode then your ship takes 29,999 damage
    • Example 2: You are fighting Zak and have 6k base HP:
      • You’re using Power Elixirs so your HP bar is full (i.e. you are at 6,000 / 6,000 HP)
      • 1/1 attack will deal you 5,999 damage with full HP
      • If you’re in Battleship then your ship takes 5,999 damage
    • Example 3: You are fighting Zak and have 19K base HP:
      • You’re using Melting Cheeses so your HP bar is NOT full, you are at 5,000 / 19,000 HP)
      • 1/1 attack will deal you 4,999 damage
      • If you’re in Battleship then your ship takes 4,999 damage
Of course, you always want to dismount for 1/1 attacks, but sometimes you can’t. Sometimes you time it wrong, you’re stunned, you can’t see the animation. So keeping your max HP a bit lower, or using smaller pots, can help with this.
However always remember that your DPS is lowest when you’re dead!

HP Washing quick summary: HP washing is very complicated and unintuitive. This is not an HP washing guide. I’m giving VERY broad strokes for new players.
    • Every 10 INT you have at the exact moment you level gives you 1 extra MP
    • You can then “wash” that MP into HP to increase your max HP using AP Resets (APRs)
    • So, you put AP points into INT (known as base INT) until a certain level
    • Some HP washing is absolutely mandatory for bossing in MapleRoyals for all attacker classes (yes, even with Olaf)
Use this amazing guide to understand HP washing before you create your first attacker: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/hp-washing-for-dummies.224894/
    HP washing calculator*: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/hp-washing-calculator.111127/

    * note that the calculator is difficult to use - do not start here, I've only included it for reference when you're ready to start your character!

Please do not message me for HP Washing questions. Read the HP Washing guide that I linked, it will tell you everything you need to know.

    Other ways to increase HP:
    • Daily HP quest
      • Available at level 120 from Ruel in Magatia, this quest makes you hunt 3 different ETC items from around the Maple world for a random number of potions that increase your HP permanently
      • You can get 10-50 HP per day from this (average is 35 daily)
      • It’s a great way to top up your HP if you can’t afford to wash, but it is slow, taking an average of 1 month to increase by 1000 HP (at ~30-40 minutes a day time spent plus travel – this time could be spent farming meso instead for more value)
    • Ellinia HP quest
      • This is a quest you can do 5 times per character for a one time increase of 500HP (total). You can buy the items (usually includes a door to the quest hand in location) for 180m at time of writing, or you can farm the items yourself, but it sucks to do. Again, value of time is a thing here.
    • Olaf questline
    HP goal tiers for Sair
    • Best: 19.1K HP. You can survive any single hit (other than VL rock/HT tail which you aren’t meant to survive) including Royal Guard, but your HP isn’t too high for 1/1s
    • Good: 17.5K. You can VL but your HP potion must be set to max, and Royal Guard can kill you
    • Okay: 16.6K HP. You can do most content, and you can survive any single hit from Auf, but you cannot survive VL or Anego slap.
    • Not great: 12.6K HP. You can survive non-touch damage from Auf and most other attacks in game. With HB you can survive any single hit and can VL but you will be dependent on HB to VL, and HB is not common in VL.
    • Bad: 9K HP or lower. You will be dependent on HB to survive many end-game bosses and can never VL. You also need HB for Auf, and no one brings Drk to Auf to HB you, and you will definitely want to Auf as a Sair
    Note:
    • From @PinaColadaPirate: my personal optimal strat for hp is to aim for 18k + 1k from collector. you can do anything safely with 18k other than Royal Guard (19k). When going into 1/1 contents use king pirate and when going into non-1/1 contents use collector to save pots
    • Personally I have 20K HP and no collector medal, and I think that's fine

    AP Build

Base AP build is easy: all points will go into DEX (after you've met base INT goal or are done washing)

STR is your secondary stat for equipping gear; it’s safe to put up to 23 STR early, since at level 200 you will have enough points for 23 STR left over after maxing DEX at 999

    Gear AP Strategy

I recommend you scroll gears for STR whenever possible. This is to maximize value of Maple Warrior (MW), since MW only applies to base stats (i.e. any DEX from gear does NOT benefit from MW). So basically the higher your base DEX, the more you get from MW.

So my suggestion is: base = DEX, gears = STR

(Note that for top tier players with perfect Auf helms the opposite is true, but until you're about +10 or more on a helm this won't apply to you, and you frankly do not need this guide!)

Note: Make sure to do Balrog Party Quest (or, more likely, buy service - current cost ~85m) when you are level 75-99 to get the Balrog's Shoulderpads (icon/ss) as you will not be able to get these once you hit level 100 or higher. Yes the +2 stat and weapon def is significant even though it is bugged to not help you actually equip gear.

    Notes for new players:
    • Scrolling some gear for strength can be tricky as a few things can’t be scrolled for STR, and it’s often more expensive
    • At end game you can assume CGS (Cape/Glove/Shoes) will be attack gear (Blackfist, Stormcaster glove, Facestomper, for example)
      • So you won’t get any DEX/STR from CGS - plan accordingly and don't be relying on your 10 STR cape to equip your weapon or you'll box yourself into a corner
    • You can only scroll these for STR: OA, Rings, Earring, Belt, and Face/Eye
      • You probably won’t get or scroll a good Ring, Belt, Face or Eye until end game unless you're rich as it’s very expensive for just a few stat points
    • So most of your STR will come from equips that give STR as part of the equip (Zhelm, MoN, etc.) and from a high STR overall and Earring.
    STR requirements

For end game gear you will need:
    • 100 STR to equip a Concerto or 110 STR to equip a Dragon Revolver
    • 80 STR to equip a White pioneer which is a common pirate Overall
      • With 23 base DEX, MoN/HTP, Zhelm/Scar helm, event gear (Vday ring, Rudolph Shiny Nose, Ancient Ring), and a half decent STR earring this should be easy to achieve
      • Meaning, your OA only needs to have 20-30 STR to equip end game weapon
    Gearing up:

    Event gear:

There are a few pieces of event gear you NEED as they are best in slot until end game or for life:
    • Christmas event: Rudolph's Shiny Nose (1/year - you can CS these, but I recommend you have 1 clean as backup)

    • Valentine's event:
      • Two Carat's Lovebird ring (1/year - but you can't scroll them and they're unique equips, so you only ever need 1).
      • You can also get multiple Sweet First Love face equip - they're not as good as Rudolph's Shiny Nose, but you can get a few each year and gamble scrolling them safely
    [IMG]
    • Anniversary event: Anniversary earrings (you can get multiple of these each year)
    • Summer event: Circle of Ancient strength (you can get multiple of these each year - keep doing the daily quest until you get godly stats)

    Bullets

There are currently 4 bullets available (not including leveling bullets with low level requirements):

Royal Bullets stack to 4700 and are ~1.5b/stack - if you can afford at least 1, buy them, and in end game you should have 2-3 stacks.

Note that 4 stacks of Royal Bullets (or equivalent amount of other bullets) are enough to do any single piece of content if you stay on ship for most of the run.

Armour Piercing Bullets are the old best in slot and stack to 4200. If you run enough NT content, you basically get them for free, in which case they’re worth, but I wouldn’t recommend investing in them at this point

Teamwork Bullets are available for ~25m-30m per stack when people sell them. They're great backup bullets and stack to 3700.

Eternal Bullets are super cheap (~1m when they're sold at all) and drop from all kinds of mobs. Carry a few stacks at all times as cheap backups. You should never run out of bullets.

    [IMG][IMG]
Glaze and Blaze Capsules While not direct bullets that will be used by Cannon/Torpedo/RF, you should carry 1 or 2 stacks of both Glaze and Blaze capsules, or you will suffer a 50% penalty on your damage when using either Splitter. (I prefer 2 stacks each, @PinaColadaPirate prefers only 1 to save inventory space, make your own decisions!)

Gear progression - Starter gear through end game gear

I didn’t really want to include this as a section as it's obvious but mostly for new players:
    • Weapon:
      • Levelling weapon: Any Maple gun - these have no AP requirements to equip and will be fine for now
      • Starting weapon: get a 104-106 Concerto or better by level 120. These are cheap and easily available (~1-2B), and you can scroll yourself easily enough
      • Weapon is the most efficient attack for money in general, so prioritize upgrading your weapon when you can
      • A perfect scrolled Concerto is fairly cheap for a perfect weapon (18-20B at time of publication) - where a perfect Dragon Revolver will run you 30-32B for the extra 4 attack (one sold recently for 37B)
        • This is ~3B / WA (assuming “normal” prices) so it’s not very efficient spend to upgrade to Revolver until you have maxed other things
      • Guns don't resell quickly so I wouldn't suggest you upgrade often. Start with 104-106 Concerto if you're poor/just starting, and either upgrade to a 110+ one time or just save for a perfect one
    • Cape/Gloves/Shoes (CGS): Get as high CGS attack as you can afford - again this is obvious
      • Starting CGS: A good starting set is a 14 attack glove (~1B), 9 attack cape (~1.4B) and 6 attack boots (~1.3-1.5B, VL boots on the lower end). That puts you at 28-29 CGS which is fine to start. This is about a month of voting and selling APRs for a new player who has no other income source - pretty reasonable.
        • If you really can't afford the glove and level through PQ, you can grind tokens of teamwork for a free 13 attack glove which is fine for starters.
      • 40-49 CGS is mid tier, 50+ CGS is pro level, and anything 55+ is into god tier (there are some 75+ on this server or more - this is a sweaty server)
    • Overall (OA): Get as good stats OA as you can. I use a hybrid OA with some STR and some DEX, but that's fairly unusual.
      • Cheap Pioneers are available with high STR as these are plentiful and Buccs use them, you can just grab one of those until you have a perfect Auf helm.
      • Plan to spend ~1B on a starter OA
        • If you’re broke, you can get something cheap and cheerful for 200-600m - it will have less stats but ultimately you just need 30 STR on it
    • Helm: Get a good Zak/Scar helm as early as you can and aim for 35-40 DEX. This should be fairly cheap and painless if you just get into runs, and one of the first pieces of near-end game gear you finish
      • You can aim for Auf helm but they're about 120b expected cost to make a perfect one, and that's if you're not buying helms - this is end game things
    • Belt: I wouldn't bother doing Dojo, just try to get into VL runs as soon as you can and get a good belt. They're not too expensive to scroll for an end game piece of attack gear. Yes you have to be 175 to VL but you shouldn’t be that desperate for a few stats until 175 - focus on levelling first!
    • Face: Get the Rudolph's Shiny Nose until absolute end game when you scroll a perfect Maple Leaf (PS grats @PinaColadaPirate!)
    • Earrings: I like the Anni earrings a lot for the bit of avoid and free all stats, but anything 12+ DEX or STR is fine until late game
    • Eye: Broken glasses from Ludi PQ (best) or Spectrum Goggles (fine)
      • Once you can run Toad, the STR from headband can help you put more points into DEX if you’re not capped yet
      • I would not overspend on eye slot until late game - stats here are very expensive. Though if you have money you can get some decent DEX on these
    • Rings: 2 of your best in slot rings are free from events:
      • 2 Carat Lovebirds Ring - from Vday event as listed above, this is one of your best in slot rings
      • Ring of Ancient Strength - from Summer event, do every day until you have godly or perfect stats
      • Almighty Ring from Krex - get a +3 stat as soon as you can, but aim for a godly one 6 stats or higher. You can CS it if you have big balls, or WS60 when you're at end game gear optimization
      • Last slot - this is up to you. IMO: do Ephenia's Ring from EPQ if you're poor, ROA if you're rich, Ilfia's ring if you're lucky, Wedding ring if you're crazy
    • Neck: For some classes there is some debate about MoN vs. HTP, but you want a purple MoN, trust me. I lose almost 200 range equipping my HTP:

    Job advancement:
    • Pin this guide, particularly for 3rd job: https://mapleroyals.com/forum/threads/new-source-job-advancement-guide.110142/
    • 2nd/3rd job advancements:
      • Since you will have a large amount of base INT, bring 1 onyx apple for each job advancement (for 3rd job you may get away with just using 8-10 heartstoppers)
    • 4th job advancement:
      • Don't waste your time hunting Griffey and Manon. It can take hours for spawn, as these bosses are widely hunted for NX/HT items, and the quest items are ~20-25% drop rate so you will likely need to kill a few of them
      • Just spend the 10m to buy the scroll from Eos tower
        • If you’re new, I know you think you can't afford it, but 10m is nothing - you can make 10m in ~10 minutes by just hunting mobs and NPCing the equips they drop (Leafre or Clocktower are very easy for this)
        • See the Travel section for how to quickly get to Eos tower and back to Leafre; it will take 5 minutes to go there and back without using a tele rock
    Leeching vs Training:
Leeching is where you pay a Bishop to kill mobs for you in specific areas so that you level quickly (or you can do it yourself if you have an appropriately levelled Bishop).

Training is where you kill mobs yourself for the exp.

I strongly recommend you plan to leech your character to at least level 123. This is for two reasons:
    • Sair damage and abilities are terrible until 4th job
    • You should have a lot of base INT so your damage will be very bad
There is a leeching guide available here: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/leeching-guide-updated-2022-goby-guide-included.145533/
That guide is a bit out of date as EXP mechanics have changed particularly around Goby and some better spots are available/have been nerfed, but this is a good start.

Skills Overview, Skill Quests and Mastery Books

    Skills Overview

I'm only going to list skills you will use in 4th job and onwards, not all the 1st/2nd/3rd job skills you will never use. And I'm only going to talk about what they do at max level - they will be weaker than that until then, obviously. I'll group these into a few sections for ease of reading:

    Battleship DPS skills:

    • Battleship:
      • This is your ability to enter/exit (aka mount/dismount) your battleship
      • The HP increases until max level (10) and then scales by level, by the formula:
        • Battleship HP = [(Skill Level) * 4000)] + [(Character Level - 120) * 2000],
        • At Level 200 your Battleship has 200K HP
          • This is around 11x 1/1 hits if you go for 19k HP
      • When the ship dies, there is a cooldown of 90s until you can use it again
    [IMG]
    • Battleship cannon:
      • This is your top DPS single target ability
      • It can only be used when in Battleship mode
      • It hits 4 times for 380% damage each, and can benefit from SI to hit max speed
      • Unlike most other ranged abilities (NL and SE), it can be used in melee range, which is a huge advantage in positioning
    [IMG]
    • Battleship torpedo:
      • This is your top DPS multi target ability (EXCEPT where mobs are weak to fire or ice, then Splitter is better, see below)
      • It can only be used when in Battleship mode
      • You hit up to 6 targets in a straight line, piercing all targets
      • Can also benefit from SI to hit max speed
    Off-battleship DPS skills:

    • Bullseye (aka Egg):
      • This is the ability that makes Sairs so powerful in single target DPS
      • This is a top tier skill which increases your damage by 20% and makes all attacks hit that target (allowing you to shoot through mobs)
      • Throw your egg at your primary target at the start of any fight before mounting battleship
      • Can only be used when not in battleship
    [IMG]
    • Rapid Fire (RF):
      • This is your main DPS ability off battleship
      • It's basically the same as Bowmaster's Hurricane skill, a super-speed single line attack
      • RF is VERY DANGEROUS when bosses are doing damage reflect, it will kill you very easily even at high HP
      • Can only be used when not in battleship
    [IMG]
    • Wrath of the Octopi (aka Octopi):
      • This is a summon ability you can cast every 10 seconds, lasting 40 seconds
        • This means you can have up to 4 at once
      • Can only be used when not in battleship
      • Octopi will attack a single target:
        • They will fire 26 shots over the 40 seconds so roughly every 1.5s
        • Note that Bullseye egg does NOT affect Octopi - they will hit whatever mob is closest/aggroed to them and will not "shoot through" mobs to what is egg'ed
        • SE and SI do not affect Octopi
        • Weapon Attack does not affect Octopi - their damage is based on STR + DEX alone. The formula is:
          • Max = (DEX* 2.5 + STR) * attack rate / 100,
          • Min = (DEX* 2.5 * 0.7 + STR) * attack rate / 100
      • For single target, Octopi + RF does 70%-80% of the damage of Cannon. A significant DPS loss but still decent
      • Octopi is also great for farming event/quest items as you can cover much of a map with them easily enough - with Wings+Splitter and max Air Strike you can farm low level maps almost as well as a mage
    [IMG][IMG]
    • Splitter - This has two flavours, Fire and Ice splitter. It does elemental damage of that type - so it can be very powerful to mobs weak to fire or ice.
      • Ice splitter will freeze mobs for 3s (goes up to 5s freeze with Elemental Boost 30). In my testing there does seem to be a bit of variability to freeze length, but I could be wrong
      • Fire splitter will leave a damage over time (DoT) on the enemies. The DoT does 10% of impact hit and lasts 5s. Useful in RG
        • (NOTE: This skill is technically called flamethrower but often referred to as fire splitter)
      • Can be used in or out of battleship
      • Both of these skills will increase substantially in damage with max Elemental Boost skill
      • You should carry 2 stacks of both Glaze and Blaze capsules, or you will suffer a 50% penalty on your damage when using either Splitter
    [IMG][IMG]

    General DPS Skills:

    • Booster
      • This is a 2nd job skill all non-Bishop classes get that improves weapon speed that lasts 200s when maxed
      • You should ensure Booster is active at all times when attacking
      • With Booster + SI, you will have max attack speed with any end game weapon
    [IMG]
    • Mastery
      • This is a 2nd job skill all classes get that improves Accuracy (which you don't need) and Weapon Mastery (which you do)
      • Weapon mastery increases the low end of your damage range, making it more stable
    [IMG]
    • Maple Warrior
      • This is a 4th job skill all classes get that amplifies all base stats by 5% (at level 9-10) and 10% (at level 19-20)
    • Gaviota
      • This is a 3rd job skill with a 5s cooldown which hits several mobs after some time
      • Can be used in or out of battleship
      • While Gaviota is pretty weak generally, it is FREE DPS when you're in Battleship as it has 0 cast frame. You should press this button on cooldown when spamming Cannon (or Torpedo)
      • Do NOT cast this when attacking single target out of battleship, as it's a DPS loss.
        • This is because you cannot cast while using Rapid Fire, so you have to stop using RF to case, and a single press of RF is more DPS than Gaviota
      • If mobbing with Air Strike, you can cast Gaviota during the animation of Air Strike for free
    [IMG]
    • Elemental Boost
      • This is a 4th job skill that amplifies the effects of your elemental attacks (Ice and Fire splitter)
      • When maxed, it increases both skills' damage by 200%, improves the freeze time by 2s and the fire DoT damage by 5%
    Mobility skills:

    • Recoil shot:
      • A poor man's version of NL's Flash Jump. It launches you across the screen quickly
      • It has 3 disadvantages to NL's jump though:
        • It has a cooldown of approximately 1.6s
        • It fires you AWAY from the direction you're facing, so you have to always be changing directions (and because you're doing this very quickly, sometimes you can this results in firing yourself directly into say Head B!)
        • Because it's an "attack", it puts you into the combat pose, so you can't change equips, drop items or CC for 2s. If you're racing against an NL to Pianus, for example, you will lose, because they can FJ much faster faster than you and CC without pause
      • Practice using this skill early as it’s tricky to use. You have to jump, face the opposite direction, and predict/time the trajectory of your fall
      • Can only be used when not in battleship
    [IMG]
    • Wings:
      • This will float you horizontally for a short time. It's situationally useful, in 2 cases:
      • To get across to a platform or rope stage in APQ, or
      • To move while firing in your battleship
      • (put GIF of using Wings + BS to move while firing)
      • Note that any damage will drop you out of the sky like a rock, and after 7s the Wings effect will end, also dropping you out of the sky. This can be very bad or even lethal in certain circumstances, so exercise caution if there are live mobs on the map
    [IMG]
    • Dash:
      • This 1st job skill allows you to double-tap a direction to get max speed and jump. Very useful particularly in the early game before you have speed buffs.
      • Many Sairs use Wings between Recoil Shots when moving around. I prefer to mount and run between Recoil Shots as it's faster, but I'm sweaty like that (gifs of each)
      • Can only be cast when not in battleship - but you can mount during Wings as shown above
    Situational skills:

    • Hero's Will:
      • This is a 4th job skill all classes get that allows you to remove Seduce and ACP-able debuffs
      • Other boss debuffs can be removed at HW6+ if you have money for the HW10 SB:
        • This includes stuns which are very common in the game
        • Goes to 1 mana cost at HW10, so you can use after 1/1 sed
        • Reduced cooldown time
        • HW10 also allows you to cure prone sed at VL
      • It has a CD of 360s (6 mins) at MW5
      • This skill requires a miniature pianus to obtain (so yes, I have a miniature pianus, that's why I need a big gun to compensate)
    • Air Strike:
      • This skill hits most of the screen for a screen clear, doing substantial damage when maxed to 6 mobs, but has a cooldown of 5s
      • Air strike has a wide horizontal range, and extremely high vertical range, but only hits at your level and above (not below)
      • Air Strike has a very long cast animation which makes it suboptimal
        • However, you can do an animation cancel for air strike. Cast air strike, then mount and dismount quickly. It means your ship can take damage during that time but it will improve your general mobbing flow and damage
      • It's very useful in 3 cases:
        • Farming maps (event/questing) - using Recoil Shot to place Octopi around a map + Air Strike + Splitter is very strong screen clear - almost as good as mage for low level maps (better for some maps as splitter + octopi are faster than mage casts)
        • Horntail - During legs/tail when you are on the ground and off battleship, Air Strike can hit entire HT body and allegedly heads (according to Dong) for very high DPS
        • Rose Garden - RG strategy will be explained in detail below but Air Strike is useful here
      • Can only be used when not in battleship
    [IMG]
    • Blank shot
      • A shot that stuns up to 3 mobs
      • Useful for flying enemies particularly in Zak or NT (Dido PQ, Core)
      • Can only be used when not in battleship
      • Not in fact named after the Operation Ivy song
    [IMG]
    • Hypnotize
      • A shot that will hypnotize a mob to fight other mobs instead of you
      • Can be useful for escaped mobs to deaggro them
      • Can deaggro bosses (useful at Auf, Scarga)
      • Can be great for trolling your friends at start of Niberg
      • Hypnotized mobs will heal protect quest NPCs (Hog, Dida, etc.) - thanks to @KidWithAGun for this tip!
      • Can only be used when not in battleship
      • Strongly suggest you keep at level 1 as there is not much benefit to additional SP investment
    Skill Quests and Mastery Books:

5 skills are unlocked by quests for Sair. No skill quests are currently bugged, you can acquire every Corsair skill in the game, any guide that indicates you can’t get them is out of date.
    • Battleship: Speak to Kyrin in Nautilus who will challenge you to a fight. You just have to survive for 2 minutes and you’ll acquire the skill. Dead easy.
    • Battleship Cannon: Speak to Kyrin who will offer you the quest. Kill 150 Spirit Vikings and collect 50 drops, then return to Kyrin and you’ll acquire the skill.
    • Battleship Torpedo: Speak to Kyrin who will offer you the quest. Kill 150 Gigantic Spirit Vikings and collect 50 drops, then return to Kyrin and you’ll acquire the skill.
    • Air Strike: This one is confusing as the quest text is not helpful.
      • Talk to Johnathan in Nautilus. He will give you a quest where you’re teleported to a room full of clones of Bart. Find the correct one and use plain attack with your gun (don’t use a skill). The success notification is very subtle, it will just be a message in the text box to return to Johnathan.
      • After this you can take the portal back or wait for time to expire.
      • Next talk to Johnathan and select the bottom option, do this twice.
      • You’ll be teleported to a new area like the skeleton area in Perion. The Statue in a Fountain NPC will start an event, wherein the other statues will light up in a certain order, then you have to attack them in the same order to proceed. There will be 3 waves of this challenge, and you need to complete it in 10 minutes. (Any WoW players who got the BC Ray mounts will remember a similar quest)
      • Return to Johnathan to acquire the skill.
    • Hypnotize:
      • Talk to Shulinch in the training room of Nautilus. She will send you to a (very easy) jump quest with the Mu Lung snakes, you’ll have to use ropes and time jumps over the snakes
        • Once you reach the portal, there will be a second stage almost identical to the first. It’s not a bug but it’s confusing if you’re not ready for it
        • Climb to the top of stage two and you’ll find Deli, a book ghost
      • You’ll have to choose the option to defend him, and then you have a defense PQ similar to the Dida PQ or the Hog mount quest. This one is very easy but agonizingly long (6 minutes)
      • When under 1 minute is left, a notification will show up in the text box that the monsters have stopped chasing Deli. Now take the portal through, talk to Deli again and you’ll be awarded the skill
    Mastery books:

Sair mastery books are worth trash generally, you can get most of them for very cheap unless someone is buying up the market to merch them or there’s a shortage. The biggest problem is that nobody really sells them because they’re not worth much, so they can be hard to find.

The only exception is Elemental Boost 30, which only drops from white reindeer at LHC. Parties for these are quite rare and even mage farming them is rare at time of writing. So this book is rare and often sells for 100m+. I had to farm it myself after buying (and failing) the first two in FM and there were none left. This is a common Sair experience FYI!

    SP build:

Note that I’m giving you this order of putting SP in case you’re training – but ideally you won’t be, you’ll be leeching. So the order isn’t too important, but MAX ALL SKILLS I SAY TO MAX as they are either required for 4th job skills, or will be useful forever, or both.

I will move very quickly through 1st, 2nd and 3rd job.

    First job:
    • Max Double Shot
    • Max Dash
    • Max Bullet Time
    • Use any leftover SP however you want, it won’t matter
    Reasoning:
    • You need Max Double Shot to unlock future skills
    • You will use Dash forever so that you can always have “free temporary haste”
      • Note: Some Sairs prefer to remove Dash SP entirely after 4th job to avoid getting spammed with "You cannot use this skill while mounted" when making micro adjustments to positioning
    • Bullet Time will provide a bit of Avoid/Acc. Sairs will always have low Avoid, take it however you can (plus other SP are useless anyways)
    Second job:
    • Max Gun Mastery
    • Max Gun Booster
    • Max Wings
    • Max Recoil Shot
    • Max Blank Shot
    • Max Invisible Shot
    • Rest into whatever you want
    Order:
    • 1 pt into Invisible Shot (at job adv)
    • 5 pts Gun Mastery
    • 5 pts Gun Booster
    • Max Gun Mastery
    • 5 pts into Wings
    • 1 pt into Recoil Shot
    • Max Invisible Shot
    • Max Booster
    • Max Wings
    • Max Recoil Shot
    • Max Blank Shot
    • Rest into whatever you want
    Reasoning:
    • Gun Mastery and Booster will be useful forever – these are core skills that boost the low end of your range and the speed of your attack, respectively
    • Wings and Recoil Shot are very useful mobility skills
    • Blank Shot is situationally useful to stun mobs
Third job: - You need to be precise on this one as there is no room for error, all SP must allocated exactly as per below as most 3rd job skills must be maxed for 4th job skills:
    • Max Burst Fire
      • Note: Save up minimum of 7 points before adding Burst Fire, as it is weaker than Double Shot until level 7, and when you add a single point Double Shot changes to Burst Fire and becomes weaker than level 20 Double Shot (thanks @PinaColadaPirate for this!)
    • 3 pts Ice Splitter
    • Max Flamethrower
    • 23 pts Ice Splitter (STOP WHEN IT HAS 26 POINTS)
    • Max Homing Beacon
    • Max Octopus
    • 15 pts Gaviota
    Reasoning:
    • Burst Fire needs to be maxed for 4th job skills
    • Ice Splitter is for freezing mobs – very useful and good for mobs weak to ice. Only put to level 26 as you need points elsewhere. You will use this and flamethrower forever
    • Flamethrower is a great AoE skill for most circumstances as it applies a small DoT
    • The next skills are needed for 4th job skills as prerequisites: Octopus Max, Homing Beacon Max, and Gaviota to 15
    Fourth job:

    Finally Sair becomes playable!!
    • At 4th job: 1 point Battleship, 1 Battleship Cannon, 1 Rapid Fire
    • 120-123: Max Battleship (level 10)
      • Note: an old guide says to leave at 1 point, don’t do that! that guide is very outdated - you need Battleship maxed
      • Note: you may choose to put some points in Cannon first - see Reasoning below
    • 124-134: Max Battleship Cannon
    • 135+: Max Bullseye, then:
    • 1 point Elemental Boost, 1 point Air Strike, 1 point Battleship Torpedo
    • Max Rapid Fire
    • Max Wrath of the Octopi
    • 9 pts MW
    • Optional but recommended: 1 point Hero’s Will, 1 pt Hypnotize, 1 pt MW
    • Max Battleship Torpedo
    • IF rich enough for MW20, 10 pts MW
    • Max Hero's Will - 4 pts
    • Max Elemental Boost
    • Max Air Strike
    • Max Ice Splitter (4 pts)
    • You’re almost 190 at this point. You can invest AP into Hero's Will 10 if you’re rich, whatever. Maybe save 10 SP in case MW30 comes out soonTM. You'll get 5 more from Olaf when you finish that too.
    Reasoning/Walkthrough:
    • At 120 when you hit 4th job, put 1 point in each of your new core skills, Battleship, Cannon, and Rapid Fire
    • Max Battleship immediately as it’s useless until maxed
    • Then max Battleship Cannon, this will be your core attack skill for life. You can start to do some bossing now!
      • Note: I have seen some good comments that level 1 Cannon is so worthless, that what's the point in having more HP in a battleship that you don't want to be in anyways. This is very valid. If you want to put 10 points or so into Cannon before maxing Battleship, go ahead. For me personally, I just suffered for 3 levels first but if you're desperate for progress this is a good point.
      • (Tbh I would just buy some Skele leech until 125 here though and then Pap/Ephenia/Chao 2X every day, you'll get through it fast)
    • Next max Bullseye, this is one of the best Sair skills in the game
    • Now that you’re 141, I take a break here for 1 level of QoL one-point-wonders: Elemental Boost increases your freeze time by 1 second with 1 point of investment; Air Strike is a full screen clear, very useful for any questing, card/event farming etc.; and Battleship Torpedo is a better mob skill than Splitters even at 1 point (mostly/kind of). Useful if you’re doing daily HP quest.
    • When your ship is on cooldown, you will use Rapid Fire (RF) + Octopi summons. At level 1 RF and no Octopi, your damage will be pure garbage when your ship is on CD. But now we can max RF and Octopi to improve that. This will improve your off-battleship damage to ~70% of your damage with cannon. But of course you always want to avoid ship destruction.
      • It is recommended to max these before MW9 as it will increase your DPS overall more
    • Get MW to level 9 (it stops giving stats at 9, only adds duration at 10) unless you’re investing in MW20. This way you have +5% DEX always.
    • Next, more 1 point wonders: 1 point Hero’s Will, 1 point Hypnotize, 1 point MW. You will use Rage/Will for HT and Auf, it’s absolutely mandatory for Auf and useful for HT. Also HW10 is a nice upgrade if you can afford and allows you to cure prone sed at VL. Hypnotize is situationally useful for Shao (and trolling your friends at NT!) and MW10 lets you cast less often.
    • If you can afford MW20, now is a good time to spend the points.
    • Now it’s time for AoE skills. Max Torpedo, very useful for day to day mobbing or LHC.
    • Max Hero’s Will for 4 more points for reduction in cooldown.
    • Max Elemental Boost is useful at RG and LHC BW and situationally.
    • Max Air Strike is useful for farming quests/event mobs, at RG, and at HT tail/legs when your ship is dead
    • At this point you can spend your extra points how you like. I would recommend 4 more points in Ice Splitter, and maybe save the rest in case of you can afford HW10, MW20 and potentially even MW30 one day. It is not worth investing more points in Hypnotize (1 point is pretty much just as good as max) or Gaviota (damage is always trash). You’re nearly 200 now, gg.

I highly recommend skimming this section for anyone who has been playing Royals less than about a year. You will probably know some of it, but there are some great nuggets in here.
The most important thing I would say, is please, do not be overwhelmed by this guide. You do not need to know everything in this guide!!! That’s why I wrote it down for you :) Save it, refer back to it as needed, and don’t try and remember everything.

Also: Don’t beat yourself up if you die, or your battleship dies a lot at first. Your battleship will get stronger as you level, and your skills will improve. Try to learn from your mistakes, and try to have fun, and don’t let other people get you down. It’s a game, and it should be fun!

    Fast travel ticket:
    • You can buy a fast travel ticket in the FM for 1, 7, or 14 days
    • This will allow you to skip all boat rides, making intercontinental travel instant
    • If you have one character and play all the time, this is definitely worthwhile - it will pay for itself in time spent actually playing (and thus earning mesos and xp) instead of waiting for boats
    • If you have many characters, it may not be worth to buy for all, but if you're here reading this New Player section, you probably have only one
    Teleporters:

There are two major teleporters you should use to get between continents:

Nautilus --> Omega Sector: Do the quest Bartol's Requests from Bartol in Nautilus to get Warp tickets. This quest should take you about 5-10 minutes max - most of the items can be bought from Nautilus and are simply walking around Nautilus delivering items.

    [IMG][IMG]

Once you've done the quest one time, you can "repeat" it daily simply by talking to Bartol again and getting 5 more tickets. So basically, just do this every time you're walking through Nautilus.

You can then access these teleporters in Nautilus and Omega.

    [IMG][IMG]

Nautilus is very easy to navigate as it has teles to move you very quickly to where you need to go:

Ellinia --> Leafre: Get to Leafre and talk to Mayor Tatomo to buy Magic Seed for 30,000 mesos each. I suggest spending 5-10m and you will have a lot. Now you can go back and forth from Ellinia to Leafre instantly. It's one map NW of Ellinia; take the top left portal and go through the tree at the top of the map.

    [IMG][IMG]

Using these teleporters, plus Dolphin taxi, Eos rock scrolls and elevators, there are a number of routes you can take to get around Maple World very quickly:
    • Victoria Island (Vic) --> Ludibrium (Ludi):
      • Use Nautilus return scroll, teleport to Omega Sector, walk E to Eos tower, and talk to the crystal to use Eos rock scrolls (see below) to teleport to Ludi
    • Eos tower tips:
      • You can do a fast repeatable quest in Eos tower near Omega Sector (2 maps up) to get 20 eos rock scrolls. Do it every time you go by until you have 100 (i.e. 5 times) and you will be good for a year.
      • You only need to use 2 Eos rock scrolls in either direction, and then use a Nearest Town scroll
    [IMG][IMG]
    • Vic --> Aqua Road (Aqua): There are two fast methods here, depending on whether you have a fast travel ticket or not.
      • NO FAST TRAVEL TICKET:
        • Use above method to go to Ludi, walk E to XXX tower and take the elevator to Korean Folk Town (KFT), drop down the well and go through the portal, then use a nearest town scroll to get to Aqua.
        • Reverse direction (Aqua --> Vic): At Dolphin, choose to go to The Sharp Unknown, take portal E, then nearest town scroll to save time climbing the rope
      • WITH FAST TRAVEL TICKET:
        • Take the boat to Orbis from Ellinia, at Orbis station talk to the NPC and go to the Mu Lung path and take the crane to Mu Lung. Take the crane again to Herb Town, then go West one map and talk to the Dolphin to get to Aqua.
        • Reverse direction (Aqua --> Vic): At Dolphin, choose to go to Herb Town.
    • Vic --> El Nath (Nath): Use above method to go to Aqua Road. Talk to the Dolphin and go to Ocean I. C., go through the West portal and use a nearest town scroll to get to Nath.
    • Vic --> Magatia: Go to Ellina and use the portal to tele to Leafre. Take the Leafre boat to Orbis, take the Orbis boat to Ariant. Take the Camel Cab to Magatia.
      • Note: If you have a fast travel ticket, skip the Leafre portion and take the boat to Orbis directly. But the boat from Leafre to Orbis is faster if you're waiting for slow travel.
    • Use the above tips in reverse to get back to Vic from anywhere else. And obviously to get to NLC or Singapore, you will go through Kerning and take the subway or plane, respectively.
    • Using this method you can get to/from anywhere relatively quickly, except Ariant. The places you'll go most commonly from 120+ are Leafre, Ludi, Singapore, and El Nath, so you're usually never more than a few minutes from anywhere other than subway/plane rides (which are shorter than boat trips)
    • Always be carrying a bunch of magic seeds, Eos rock scrolls, teleporter cards, and Kerning, Nautilus, and Ellinia return scrolls, and nearest town scrolls
    TP rocks:
    • Although the above section below will get you around Maple World very quickly, sometimes you need to get somewhere instantly. This is where TP (aka tele) rocks come in
    • VIP tele rocks costs 3m and allow you to transport to anyone or anywhere in the Maple world
      • You cannot tele into active boss areas, and some areas like ToT are locked until you've finished pres
    • Regular tele rocks cost 1.5 and allow you to transport to anyone or anywhere in the same continent
    • You can save maps with your tele rock. I highly recommend you do this. I would save the below maps so you can instantly get anywhere you need to boss:
      • Gardener's Spot (RG, but also LHC, VL and El Nath)
      • Peak of the Big Nest (HT and Leafre)
      • Ruins of Krexel I (Krex and Singapore)
      • The Passage (Zak)
      • Forgotten Passage (Pap and Ludi)
      • Courtyard (CWK and NLC)
      • Entrance to the Spooky World (Scarga) - this is more optional as it’s easy to get to from Singapore and you will probably get door from Kampung village
      • Castle Corridor (Toad) - this is more optional as you can get to Ninja Castle from most towns, and it only saves you a few maps of travel
      • Fairy Forest 3 (Ephenia) - this is more optional but allows you to skip the many maps of walking if you kill Ephenia and Chao daily
    • Note that the Regular tele and VIP tele rocks save separate maps - bring at least one of each wherever you go to be able to save the maps once then you never have to walk around again if you don’t want to

Quick tips: This is a lot of what I wish I knew when I started. It applies for all characters, not just Sairs.
    • Etiquette is important! See this amazing guide from @Sylafia: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/common-mapleroyals-etiquette.246331/
      • Also note that unlike in GMS, kill stealing or looting items from another person’s map is NOT acceptable and can get you banned. MapleRoyals has a ~mapowner command that will tell you who owns the map. This resets after no damage is done to any mobs for a few minutes.
    • Vote every day! You will get 8K NX - this is the engine room for your finances when you are new.
      • I recommend you sell APRs from the Cash Shop - find the market rate (currently 10-10.5m/APR) and sell at that. These are sold for 3100 NX each Game --> ETC tab of the Cash Shop
      • If you prefer to gamble, an easy place to start is to buy Gach tickets and Gach at Mushroom Shrine for Chaos Scrolls, or New Leaf City for White Scrolls. These vary in price but go for ~500m at any given time.
      • At gach I prefer NLC, personally - Shrine will give you lots of nice dark scrolls that you can sell, but you won't know the value of these necessarily or have a shop
      • Do NOT vote abuse - it is not worth getting perma banned over!!! Only vote once a day, on one account, period!! Many new players seem to think this is okay for some reason, it's not and you will get caught. Depending on severity, this can be a perma ban for the first offence.
    • Use Safety Charms! When you die in Maplestory, you lose EXP. This is very painful, particularly when you're 120+. If you are carrying Safety Charms, you will not lose EXP. Carry 5 of these at all times! They are inexpensive - you can buy 5 for 3200 NX in the Game --> ETC tab of the cash shop. Less than half of one day's voting.
    • Use Owls!
      • If you want to buy something significant in the Free Market, you can use Owl of Minerva from the Item Seller to find the location of a store along with the price of the item. This is very useful when buying.
      • You should also use Owls before selling big ticket items to price check them and price competitively
    • Use a price guide before you sell gach!
      • The most poplar one is Sylafia's price guide: tinyurl.com/sylpriceguide
    • White Scrolls (WS) and Chaos Scrolls (CS) are commonly used as currency. This is done for three reasons:
      • CS/WS are resistant to inflation - while they fluctuate up and down from 500m (typically +/- 15m), they do not deviate much from those values, unlike meso or even attack gear which inflate/deflate over time
      • Trading CS/WS does not invoke tax - all mesos traded or dropped are subject to a tax (3% on trades). In transactions involving multiple billion mesos, this can be very sizeable amounts of lost mesos.
      • CS/WS are always in demand - players always have a use for these items, so they are constantly being purchased/sold for their inherent effects
    • Run APQ if you need money while you’re new. APQ is boring but easy money for new players - get to level 40 and get married (to another player, or to one of your own mules level 10+), and you can start grinding apples and selling them. APQ is not amazing money, but it’s very accessible to new players and it’s a great way to be established.
    • 100 attack limit: Presumably to avoid botting or putting a mug on the keyboard, OG Maple had code that prevented you from taking one action more than 100 times without moving or taking other actions. This mostly applies to attacking, particularly for stationary/boring bosses like Krex and RG. You need to move occasionally left or right, and sometimes use other abilities, or you will just kind of stand there and do nothing.
      • Using booster or MW without moving/jumping will not prevent this based on what I can tell
      • There seems to be two levels of lockout, a milder one where you just have to move at all, and a more strict one where you have to move a fair bit and use other abilities before you can attack again
      • Be aware of this and react accordingly - I like to look back and then forward again every couple minutes to avoid lockup. You can also jump in place while using cannon - but getting hit midair can force repositioning, so I prefer not to do that.
    • Other guides - there are other super useful guides for new players:
Terminology and Acronyms - Basic Party, Bossing, Party Skill, and Class
These will be used a LOT in bossing parties, so if you aren't familiar with these, learn them well.

    The basics:

Note that much of this is universal gaming terminology other than the concept of expedition which is specific to Maple.

    • Cooldown (CD): Time when an ability can't be cast again, e.g. you can cast Octopi every 5s, so it has a 5s cooldown
    • Invincibility frames (iframes): Animations where a character or boss cannot be hit. For example, after you take damage you have a 1s iframe. Many classes like Bucc and Shad have lots of attack animation iframes, and some bosses have many (Auf, Dunas v1, BF, etc.) Sair do not have iframe attacks, but should understand the concept
    • Damage over time (DoT): This is when an ability hits the target with a debuff that causes them to continue to take damage over a few more seconds. Enemies and players can both use (and receive) DoT damage, however in Maple this is not a big mechanic (unlike say WoW where it's a central playstyle of many classes)
    • Pin: Attack a boss only to one direction (or have melee rush it) so that it's pinned to one side of the map
    • Party (PT) vs expedition: Many bosses have an "expedition" sign up, where 10-30 players can join the fight. In this case you may have multiple parties or some characters out of party that will be juggled in/out of PT (e.g. HS mule)
    • All Cure Potion (ACP): USE item that eliminates many debuff status effects. Noted below only where ACP is not effective
    • Area of effect (AoE): Attacks that hit a wide area or multiple monsters (or players).
    • Mobs: Any monster that is not a boss. Mobbing refers to players doing AoE damage
    • Adds/Summons: Mobs that are summed by boss during a boss fight
    • Tank: Absorbing a hit directly/intentionally. E.g. we will talk about tanking hits on your ship sometimes or tanking boss touch damage
      • Note: Other RPGs often have a dedicated player role as a “tank” that protects other players, but Maple does not have this concept
    • Aggro: When a mob or boss is focused on attacking one single player, it is aggroed to that player (in other RPGs where threat mechanics are a thing this is known as “holding aggro” - shoutout to Fall of the Dungeon Guardians which has the funnest aggro mechanics I’ve played!)
    Boss abilities and acronyms:
    • Weapon Cancel (WC): This is when the boss casts an effect that makes all physical attacks to the boss do only 1 damage. This is a total DPS loss until it ends unless you have CR (see below)
    • Magic Cancel: The same effect but only for magic attacks. Since mages aren't usually in boss runs as attackers, this is generally not a problem and we really don't talk about it
    • Dispel (DP): The boss erases all buffs from all players in map. Very dangerous for mage as it cancels their magic guard, so they can die in 1 hit. Will dismount you from battleship. Does not erase Echo, potion effects (e.g. apple), and some other class-specific skills such as Bucc transform. For Sair, effect is minimal, just recast booster and maybe MW if you are the one in PT casting, and remount battleship
    • Seduce (sed): The boss casts a debuff on you that makes you run in a certain direction (or run while jumping, or crouch - different for each boss). You cannot potion (pet or manual) while seduced so it can easily be lethal, it can wipe out entire parties. Can't use ACP to remove this. Sed is the main reason for taking Hero’s Will ability.
    • Defense up: The boss casts a defense increase that shows a little shield over its head. Can be removed by a Drk ability, Power Crash. DPS loss while it's up
    • Damage reflect (DR): A debuff that makes you take damage every time you attack. Can easily be fatal if you're using RF. Need to manage this mechanic carefully. Can't use ACP to remove this
    • Crazy skull: A debuff that will reverse your direction controls. Note that it also reverses up and down, so to use portals you'll need to press down! Can't use ACP to remove this
    • Undead: A debuff that will decrease your healing potion effectiveness by 50%, and also make you "undead", meaning priest/BS heal will damage you. Your pet will still heal you up to your HP setting, so it's no big deal, as long as you don't have a dumb BS who heals at that moment and gibs you. Can't use ACP to remove this
    • Stun: A debuff that makes you immobilized and unable to take actions (but you can potion, unlike in some patches of GMS). Can't use ACP to remove this
    • Darkness: A debuff that will make you miss all attacks. Remove it immediately as it's a 100% DPS loss
    • Bleed/Poison: A debuff that makes you take a small amount of damage over time - this can kill you if a 1/1 hits you when the DoT ticks, so try to remove it immediately in boss runs with 1/1 attacks. Otherwise you can pretty much ignore it
    • Seal: A debuff that makes you unable to cast any abilities. Remove it immediately as it's a DPS loss
    • Slow: A debuff that makes you move very slow, even with Haste. Can't use ACP to remove this. However, if you mount up, you will move at full mount speed, so do that if you need to reposition while Slowed
    • Power knockback (KB): Typically referred to as being yeeted, this is where the boss throws you across the screen with a skill
    Party skills and acronyms:
    • Mystic Door (Door): This is a BS skill that creates a door teleporting you to a map from the closest town. Usually a BS (or HS mule) will go ahead of the group and door everyone to the boss location directly, rather than make everyone walk
    • Crash (CR): This is a Paladin skill (Total Crash) that reduces the impact of WC. It is a 50s buff gives 75% chance for attacks to break through WC (at max level). Often muled
    • Holy Symbol (HS): This is a Bishop skill that increases experience received for kills. Needs 2 targets minimum. Considered mandatory for boss runs
    • Speed Infusion (SI): This is a Buccaneer skill that increases attack speed by 2 steps over what is achieved by booster. Can't increase past "Very fast (2)" speed, so it does not benefit NL or Shad
    • Sharp Eyes (SE): This is a Bowmaster/Marksman skill that adds a X% chance of causing critical damage by Y%. Very significant damage increase ability; mandatory for NL. Does not benefit Shad Assassination skill currently due to a bug
    • Maple Warrior (MW): This is a 4th job skill for all classes that increases all base stats (i.e. not from gear) by a certain percentage. The skill book for MW20 is expensive, so many characters will only have MW10. MW10 increases all base stats by 5%; MW20 increases all base stats by 10%. This is a very significant damage increase, especially for mages
    • Holy Shield (HSH): This is a Bishop skill that prevents party members from being stunned for 40s, when maxed. It has a cooldown of 2 minutes so it can't be up constantly
    • Smokescreen (SS): This is a Shadower skill that casts a smoke cloud in an area. When in this cloud, party members don't get hit by any attacks or abilities. Very useful especially for Sair as we don't have to dodge attacks. In parties with multiple Shads, they will often specify S1, S2 etc. to know order of who is casting smokes
    • Echo: Level 200 skill for all characters that increases all damage by 4% for 40 minutes
    • Time Leap (TL): This is a Bucc skill that resets all CDs (except for TL itself). At max it can be used every 20 minutes. It's typically used for SS and Echo, but it will also reset Battleship CD, so if you have a Bucc who's going to use TL (e.g. for SS) when your ship is low on health, call out that you need it and kill ship deliberately for TL
    • Dispel (DP): This is also a Bishop skill that removes all debuffs from nearby party members. Does not remove positive buffs (unlike dispel in old D&D games!)
Non-party skill acronyms that you should know:
    • Magic Guard (MG): This is a 1st job Mage skill (all mages have) that allows mages to use some MP to tank damage. Mages have tiny HP bar but massive MP bar - without MG active they will die in 1 hit to most bosses
    • Rush: This is a 4th job skill for all warriors (and 2nd job for Buccs - the skill has a different name but still usually called rush in pt) that allows the player to push mobs and some bosses in a certain direction. Very useful for pinning any non-stationary bosses. Does not work in Auf (though Buccs can still use whip to grab her)
    • Puppet: This is a 3rd job skill for Bowmasters that will draw aggro from nearby mobs and bosses. Used situationally but particularly for CWK when fighting Pirate boss.
    Class abbreviations
    • Bishop: BS (or sometimes just HS)
    • Night Lord: NL
    • Bowman: BM (or often just SE - SE classes are interchangeable on most runs, with VL as a notable exception)
    • Marksman: MM (or often just SE)
    • Shadower: Shad
    • Buccaneer: Bucc; more rarely SI
    • non-BS Mage: I/L or F/P depending on class
    • Dark Knight: Drk, DK, or sometimes HB
    • Paladin: CR
You will also see people ask for Groom/Bride with more specific roles like mage/attacker - this is APQ terminology, I won’t get into it here, see the APQ guide above.

    Attack potions

These are the most commonly used attack potions:

Apple: Onyx Apples are the standard bossing attack potion, these last 10 minutes and give 100 attack. You get them from Amoria Party Quest (APQ) at level 40+ if you're married, but you can also buy in FM and they are used as currency of sorts.

Gelt: An untradeable better version of apple, you get these from events and some rare chests/quests. Note that these also give accuracy and avoid, so they can be helpful in situations where you need to hit something (or not be hit!)

Heartstoppers (aka Stoppers): A one minute attack potion that gives +60 attack, as well as avoid and move speed. Usually used at the end of a boss run when there looks to be less than 10 minutes' worth of time left on boss' HP bar, OR when people don't want to spend apples. Carry a big stack of these as you go through them quickly

Energizer: Called "gizer" for short, these are the most basic low tier attack pot. Used when you're doing content that is very easy for your level, or when just doing basic questing etc.

Peppermint: These are available only from event but are basically a much better gizer.

Warrior potions: These are super cheap +12 attack potions available from NLC vendor. Carry a stack for when you're doing something unimportant but don't want clean attack

Note that higher attack pots exist such as VL pot, Naricain's potion etc.
    Tips
    • Multitarget skill selection:
      • 1-2 targets: Use cannon
      • 3-6 targets: Use torpedo
      • If a mob has both Fire and Ice weakness, Splitter is stronger than torpedo
      • Air strike is never worth casting unless it hits more than 3 mobs than torpedo/splitters, or for aggroing mobs
    • Reclient (RC) between runs to reset your battleship's HP
      • Your character dying does not reset your battleship!
    • If you're stunned or seduced while in battleship, you can right click the battleship icon in the top right to dismount and avoid further damage to battleship
    • A good way to stay aware of the 100 cast cap is to check mp cost. You need to reposition every -4000mp.
    • Most bosses can be run twice daily, Auf once daily, and VL twice weekly. If you don't remember what you've run today/this week due to Time Zone differences, you can check the scroll in the lounge
    • Use baskets for Avoid - these can be really helpful in keeping your ship alive! Also helps avoid repositioning from falling off platforms (especially at Zak and HT)
    • Octopi do not trigger Damage Reflect, you can safely cast them on a boss using DR
    • Most 1/1 attacks are a bright white or yellow animation. If you’ve never seen a boss before and don’t have time to check the guide, a bright white/yellow coloured animation is always a good one to dismount for
    Macros:
    • 3xCannon: Useful to keep attacking while you're muling
    • Fire + Ice splitter: Useful for RG, LHC, or anytime you're out of battleship needing multitarget attack
    • Wings + Battleship: When you need to fire while repositioning
    • Wings + Recoil: Good for moving in map and can act as a superjump macro (longer distance than raw recoil)
    • Octopi + Gaviota: Use instead of Octopi skill. Better octopi cast in macro, Gaviota is just free
    • Octopi + Battleship + Gaviota. Gaviota comes last because its often on CD if you spam. This is still a viable macro but only for dismount.
      • Warning: it comes with some risk as you dismount slower. But you get to cast RF ASAP. Only use it when you’re very sure you can dodge attack in time.
      • [/U]Note: I do not use this macro and I don’t really recommend it[/U]. I cast Octopi manually during the mount/dismount animation. This macro was suggested by @PinaColadaPirate so I’m including it for completeness. If you’re playing at a high enough level and competent enough to time it properly for the extra DPS, it is a net gain, but you have to be confident and skilled
    • 3xTorpedo: Less useful than Cannon as much fewer situations to do this in, but if you have macro space you can consider it
    Keybinds:

There is no one right way to do it, but Sair does present a challenge as we have so many useful skills and macros. I'm going to give you a few different layout as food for thought - ultimately it is up to what you find most efficient and comfortable to play with.

I would recommend new Sairs to plan out their keybinds even before 4th job to develop muscle memory in advance.

Gunzgaming proposes this keyboard layout, with good reasoning:

This is great for “ASWD” oriented players.

I'm more of a purist with the old school Ctrl to attack, Alt to jump playstyle. So this is what I do:

The prestigious Kaizoku uses a similar layout to me, though with far fewer skills (I only found out while writing this):

Last but not least, the masterful Volleyfire uses the below variation:

Feel free to pick one of these, or just create your own. These are just ideas - do whatever feels natural and instinctive to you.

    Shortcuts:

I would definitely suggest that, no matter what key you bind them to, you put these in your shortcut so you can see the cooldown:
    • Battleship
    • Octopi
    • Gaviota
    • Hero's Will
    • (Optional) Echo
You do this by clicking the keyboard layout and the "Change Quick Slots" button:

and then you will be able to drag items/skills onto the resulting UI here:

Note: This section is for math nerds who want to see underlying damage metrics. I would strongly recommend NOT reading this section unless you’re looking for very detailed information on how Sair damage is calculated.
    Top Single Target DPS data

This is a bold claim so I'm going to back it up real quick with a couple posts of live data for anyone who is interested in reading further:

    https://royals.ms/forum/threads/dps-charts.124709/

    https://royals.ms/forum/threads/krex-class-dps-comparison.224575/

The second DPS test is great because it's live videos of Krex kills, showing the #2 Sair on server Yann beating Xves (who I believe was the #1 ranked NL at the time) by an entire minute (from ~10 minutes to ~9 - very substantial). Note that this is optimal Sair conditions - HT for example is a different story, with high incoming damage, lots of platforms etc. But it shows the pure power of Corsair - Sair is an absolute beast if you are geared and skilled.

Damage formulae - SE, SI, Cannon vs RF

Huge thanks again to @PinaColadaPirate for providing these (literally from his memory - in case you doubt whether he's a g0d!)

    Effect of buffs on Cannon:
    • Normal: 380% * 4 * 1.2 / 0.63 = 2895.2%
    • SI: 380% * 4 * 1.2 / 0.6 = 3040% (+5% than Normal)
    • SE: (0.15 * (140% + 380%) + 0.85 * 380%) * 4 * 1.2 / 0.63 = 3055% (+5.5% than Normal)
    • SI + SE: (0.15 * (140% + 380%) + 0.85 * 380%) * 4 * 1.2 / 0.6 = 3208% (+10.8% more than Normal)
You can see that SI and SE are a significant boost to Sair - but not nearly as much of an effect as SE has for NL. Meaning: Sair benefits from SE/SI, but does not require them in the same way.

Also note that SE and SI are nearly the same value, with SE 10% more effective at DPS increase (5.5% vs 5%)

Effect of buffs on Rapid Fire:
    • Normal: 200% * 1.2 / 0.12 = 2000%
    • SE: (0.15 * (200% + 140%) + 0.85 * 200%) * 1.2 = 2210% (+10.5% than Normal)
    • SI: RF is fixed speed so SI has no effect on it

During RF, SE makes essentially as much of a difference on its own as SE+SI in cannon. And SI is useless for RF.

Also note that SE/SI do not affect Octopi.

Effects of buffs on Thrower+Splitter combo:

From pinacoladapirate: I was doing some dps calculations and realized thrower+splitter combo does not actually benifit from si due to their individual hard capped delay.

did some testing and it confirmed that theory.

    thats kinda sad honestly

    Cannon vs. RF:

Here is the formula for how Cannon compares to Rapid Fire+Octopi (pasting directly from @PinaColadaPirate's notes):
    • (RF + Octopi)/Cannon = (1143 * wa * (2.772 * dex + str) + 13000 * (10.625 * dex + 5 * str)) / (1737 * wa (2.772 * dex + str))
    • lmao very complicated expression but thats what happens when summon only uses dex and str
Basically, this depends on your ratio of WA to STR/DEX, as Octopi do not consider WA and only consider STR and DEX.

If you have higher WA and less base stats (DEX/STR), your damage out of battleship is closer to 70% (this is probably you if you're an average high level player with some funding)

If you have lower WA and more base stats (DEX/STR), your damage out of battleship is closer to 80% (this is probably you if you A) have an Auf helm, B) have really low attack weapon/CGS, or C) are using weak/no attack pots)

Attack pots are included in WA here, so for example on Apple/Gelt/VL pot, RF+Octopi is more of a DPS loss than on Gizer. We're only talking about a few percentage points difference, but Royalers optimize and obsess over everything so here you go.

The meat and potatoes of the guide! A few quick notes:
    • I’m going to list the bosses in likely order of when you fight them.
      • These are sorted by level required to get EXP - I have only listed level to enter where there is some good reason to enter without EXP, such as Zak, Scarga, CWK, Auf
    • I would like to give credit for use as well as mad props to Zanck's amazing bossing guide, as I got a lot of the boss basic details from this. I would suggest you save to favourites and reference it often:
    • Many of the positioning gifs will use the little flag sticking out of the mast of the battleship here as a reference point: (it’s harder to see on my character cause of his big hair!)
    • Don’t @ me for my damage in these posts, I’m literally using warrior pot in half of these
    • In a (vain) attempt to keep this more compact, I will only show animations you need to know, at the end of each boss
      • Note that @PinaColadaPirate has mentioned he always prefers to see a full run. That goes against my mindset - personally I want to know only the details I need, which is what I’ve tried to provide. However where available I have posted full runs (usually from @PinaColadaPirate) at the end of each boss, for those interested.
        • I cannot promise that these will not be taken down at some point - Nexon randomly goes on sprees every few years with YouTube, and I suspect that with Classic launching soon, we will see some removals.
    • THE BOSSING GUIDE IS NOT FULLY COMPLETE. Notable absence is HT, Auf needs to be improved with more videos/gifs, and The Boss is also pending, and a few other boss fights need more animations and gifs. I will complete these post launch of the guide as soon as I can, hopefully within a week or so

Pap is the first real boss you will fight (and hopefully solo starting ~125). Pap is great XP from 120-135 with HS. You can run twice a day, but you will only get one "crack" from the daily quest, and you can only have one in your inventory at a time. Buy one in FM for ~3-5m, or get one from a guildie or another character if you have one

    Guide:

    • Pap is a two stage fight with most of the fight against B1 which will go into an invulnerable shell after casting a 1/1 ability. This is the biggest factor in slowing your runs. B2 flies around quickly and does significant damage (~6K) - be ready to keep your distance if your HP is lower than that
    • Pap is easy, but if he gets too close and you're on the ground he will stun and DP you. There is also a 1/1 to dodge
    • After 1/1, remount, you can get another 1-2 cannon shots in before Pap goes into its shell
    • During shell, walk forward and summon an octopi in range. This will help to DPS pap and clear ground mines. You can also recast booster, and cast Air Strike to clear top mines if you want. Just make sure you’re back in position and mounted when Pap wakes up again.
    • Positioning:
      • You are going to pin the boss left with cannon, and then stand in the spot indicated and blast with cannon. This will ensure you are not hit with stuns/dp
      • Out of battleship you will need to get closer for Octopi / RF but you should still be far enough back to miss stuns/DP - it’s not worth going to top platforms and risking dying from mines
      • [IMG]
    • Animations:
      • You must dodge the 1/1 with the kanji symbol and yellow animations
      • You can dodge many other attacks if your battleship is weak, just pay attention to the animation timings. I won't list them all out here, as by ~130 you won't need to dodge most basic attacks, just the 1/1
      • [IMG]

Prequest note: You may wish to delay completion of the pres until level 120 as Olaf will require you to kill 2500 of these mobs and Chao/Ephenia, so despite the good EXP at level 100, you may wish to save time in duplicating these quests (long questline with multiple "kill 999")
    • Note: If you’re running Chao and Ephenia daily, it is preferred to start with Ephenia and then do Chao, as the Ephenia card is better for Chao drops. You can CC immediately after entering portal and then recoil shot to move very quickly from Ephenia to Chao
    Guide:
    • Chao himself is easy but his summons are a pain
    • Chao’s adds can’t be stunned or frozen and are immune to fire DoT
    • Positioning: You can pin right and stand here to avoid all damage from the boss (but not adds)
    • Animations: Until he’s pinned, when Chao jumps in the air, he will yeet you across the screen; jump at the right time to avoid this until you have him pinned right
    • [IMG]

    Guide:
    • Ephenia is very annoying for Sair. She summons mobs which stun, she casts crazy skull, undead, and slow, drops large poison cloud, and yeets you occasionally. Worse, she teleports around the map, losing pin and forcing you to recast egg every time
    • Crazy skull is good practice for VL later!
    • If you're less than level 130 this fight will probably be very difficult to kill in time soloing - maybe find a partner your level
    • Mobs will summon in 4 waves, at HP intervals of 80%, 60%, 40%, and 20% (thanks @PandemicP for this detail!).
      • Mobs will poison and stun you - focus them immediately with torpedo or splitter macro
      • Adds are immune to freeze, stun and fire DoT, and strong against ice/fire - torpedo is very preferable here. Once mobs are dead, go back to DPSing Ephenia
      • Note that Ephenia may sometimes delay a wave if she's stunlocked in a corner (thanks again @PandemicP for this!)
    • Recast egg every time Ephenia teleports
    • Move out of poison cloud when cast (duh) as these will hurt your ship and eat your pots
    • Your pet HP should take care of undead just fine, but, make sure your HP is set high enough and your health potions are strong enough to survive the fight
    • Positioning: n/a - you will have to move with her as she TPs
    • Animations: If you are low level (<150+) you will probably have to dodge her two damaging attacks - see below for animations and timing

Sair is excellent at hunting world bosses. I've always loved world bosses in any game (shoutout to Pandaria xpac of WoW as particularly great for that) and the Olaf questline makes this fun and rewarding on Royals. Most are dead easy. I'm only going to list 4 world bosses that take some knowledge and strategy to down.

    Bigfoot (BF)
    • Notable rewards: Huge EXP for mules, Bigfoot's toe, NX
    • HP to survive: non-touch - 5k+; touch 11K+
    • Boss HP: 15m
    • Found in: Phantom Forest: Forgotten Path, Evil Rising, Creeping Evil, The Evil Dead, Twisted Paths 1, 2, 3, and 5, Crossroads 1, 2, and 3
Guide: Bigfoot (BF) is great xp for mules 105-120 and drops the BF toe which is the hardest part of the Deputy Star quest. XP is way faster than skele leech if you can find spawns. He's very easy to hunt but can do up to 11k touch damage, so if your HP is below that you may die often to him. Note that the "leprechaun hit" at the front will only do 1 damage, and his swing attacks do about 3k damage, so you can survive many different attacks from him, but touching the main body can be lethal.

If you get used to the confusing Phantom Forest map navigation, there are enough bigfoots for you to spend your whole day hunting them across 20 channels. But mostly people hunt in the 2 maps (and 1 adjacent) that are on the way to CWK.
    • Pin process:
      • BF has lots of iframes which makes him very annoying. The best way is to pin him in a corner, by luring him in, recoil shot over his head, and then use cannon to pin
      • This takes some doing as pin doesn't always work the first time. You can tell because he will do an extra "look back" animation - see below GIF (XXXX) and then he's pinned
      • Recommend you do not use octopi as they will interfere with the pin and especially the repinning process[IMG]
    • Positioning:
      • This is critical for BF. This is because of his iframes - he will only be available to be hit for a couple frames, and the distance from the corner you pin him in to your battleship defines whether the bullets reach him in perfect time. If you're not in perfect position, you will lose pin and lots of DPS as you'll only hit him every 2nd or 3rd cannon shot.
      • Here is the correct spacing. If you pin right, I use the flag at the top of the pirate ship to line up with the tree branch (this spacing is the same on every map where the right tree is spaced far - NOT the first map)
      • You can pin left too, there's nothing wrong with that, but there isn't the same visual cue that I use - YMMV
      • Even if your positioning is perfect, BF will unpin sometimes:
        • The wraiths will knock you out of position, very annoyingly. If you have a mule with summons (BM, BS, etc.) it can be handy to park one nearby to keep the wraiths off you
        • After a certain amount of attacks he just seems to iframe through it no matter what you do
        • So just rinse and repeat pin and reposition as needed. If you have high damage and good positioning it won't take long - I down him in about 4 minutes with warrior pots
      • [IMG]
    • Animations: nothing to dodge, but definitely don’t be in battleship if you’re going to be tanking touch damage
    Pianus
    • Notable rewards: Miniature Pianus, 5K NX, Pianus certificate
    • HP to survive: 5K if you don’t blow up mines, 10K if you’re a noob
    • Boss HP: Per BBB - I do not trust these numbers to be accurate as I feel Left side is ~50% or less of the HP of Right side, and Royals HP numbers are usually 2.5-3x higher than BBB:
      • Left side: 24m
      • Right side: 30m
    • Found in maps: Aqua Road: The Cave of Pianus
I will teach you how to fight Pianus, but not how best to channel surf. There are secrets here, but I don't want to overly encourage hunting; this boss is already overfarmed even by the standards of Royals world bosses. (Ppl be so sweaty for NX).

Pianus is hunted more than most because it can drop the Miniature Pianus (aka statue) which is required for Hero's Will quest by every character, and this is a rare drop (~10%) so it can sell for 50-100m. I personally love fighting this boss for the memories, and the art, even though he's pretty annoying.

Yes, it’s the boss with the easiest name to giggle at, particularly the statue.

    Guide:
    • Pianus will WC very often for very long - often WC for 30s-1m and can do it back to back multiple times. I actually bring CR when I'm hunting, but I've never seen anyone else do that
      • During WC, cast Octopi, rebuff and clear mines
    • Mines:
      • Pianus will spawn mines often: [IMG]
      • These mines will explode for ~9100 damage if you hit them without 1-shotting them. This can be lethal and cause you to lose the kill walking back from aqua (someone can steal your map in this time)
      • Use ice splitter to clear mines (flamethrower will only do 1 dmg)
        • You can do this while dismounting for 1/1 and jumping to reposition to not lose DPS
      • Do NOT use gaviota and use octopus only if your damage is high enough to reliably one shot the mines, or else mines may kill you
      • Be very careful if using Rapid Fire as a mine can spawn right next to you and then detonate immediately
      • If your octopi can one-shot mines, they are VERY effective for keeping mines away from you and highly recommended
    • Positioning: Wherever you’re not sitting on a mine
    • Animations: - The only animation to watch out for is it's 1/1 animation - see below. You can dodge easily. Feel free to dodge other attacks too
    • [IMG]
    • Both sides can spawn at same time. If fighting both sides at once:
      • Stand in mid and be on large client so you can see both sides' animations to dodge 1/1s
      • Kill Left side first as it has much less HP and is more annoying
      • If you don’t have CR, when Left side casts WC, DPS Right side (though they will both WC at the same time for large stretches of the fight)
    Left side:
    • Will cast Seal and Dispel - far as I can tell these are usually cast very close together, ~3-4s apart, but not always in the same order
    • Remember you can exit battleship while sealed, just not enter battleship
    • Has about 40% of HP of right side but is more annoying because dp and seal
    Right side:
    • Large health pool paired with frequent WC spam
    • Casts mines more often than LS
    • It will take some time unless you have good damage or have CR, but the mechanics are simple (yes I bring CR when hunting Pianus)
    Kacchuu Musha aka Samurai
    • Notable rewards: Samurai piece, XP
    • HP to survive: 12K+
    • Boss HP: 78m - per BBB - these numbers are often much higher in Royals
    • Found in maps: Zipangu: Castle Corridor [9]
Kachuu Macha is hunted for mule xp (great from 110-125, similar to BF) and for the Samurai piece he drops - needed for Toad pres and to face Toad himself.

He's not complicated, but he deals massive swing damage (~10k each swing) that's impossible to dodge, so he's a real pain for Sair to take down, melting battleship instantly.

    Until now.

    Guide:
    • Credit to @PinaColadaPirate for this tactic:
      • Pin samurai to left
      • Climb onto a small nearby platform and use a common summoning sack
      • The jr. netis and other lowbie creatures will miss you often or deal 1 dmg, and stop getting hit for 10k a swing. Easy kill
      • [IMG]
    Female Boss aka Anego
    • Notable rewards: Lady Boss’s comb
    • HP to survive: 18K+
    • Boss HP: 75m - per BBB - these numbers are often much higher in Royals
    • Found in maps: Zipangu: Parlor
Anego is a joke unless you cuddle up to her and let her unpin, in which case she can do massive damage in a slap (~18K). But as long as you keep her at long range and pin her, she can't touch you and she's a very easy kill. I'm only including her here because you need her comb to summon The Boss who appears later in this guide.
    • Positioning:
      • Pin left as the mobs in the map will eventually all summon on the bookshelves on the right and leave you alone
      • You can use the couch as a visual cue for positioning
      • [IMG]
    • I like to cast the occasional Octopi to keep mobs off you until they all spawn right
      • Note from @PinaColadaPirate - I don't recommend casting octopi, they will make mobs spawn into ur face. Just torpedo any mobs that walk in front of you or turn to cannon the mobs that are about to walk into you.

Guide: I'm only going to guide you through the boss fight, as the above guide walks you through the PQ perfectly and also has a great reference image for BoN.

Guide here depends what you're attacking. Generally Sair will be on top platform attacking either Mage or Pirate boss, depending on your party composition. These are usually pinned separately: Mage is pinned left and pirate is pinned right.
    • Mage (aka Margana):
      • This is the easiest fight ever. She just basically stands there and eats damage, and has less HP than Pirate boss
      • Every now and then she will cast a barrier blocking your attacks. During this time go help DPS Pirate boss
      • Don't cast Gaviota during mage boss if you have a BM fighting pirate, as it will attack the Pirate boss and mess with their puppet aggro
    • Pirate (aka Heron):
      • This is the most annoying fight ever.
      • Pirate spams a long range attack for 1 damage constantly that will knock you back, and Sair with our low avoid get bounced like a frieking piñata
      • He will also dispel constantly which is a real problem
        • The problem is he runs forward quickly, and you'll be repositioning forward, so he will miss a few hits and he can sneak a dispel in sometimes no matter how perfectly you position
      • Positioning:
        • If you stand here you can avoid a lot of the dispels (but not all of them)
      • Animations:
        • Nothing to dodge, but watch for the dispel animation. Pirate's dp is around 20sec cd so Sair can reposition forward as long as dp is on cd. This strat made life much easier! (credit to @PinaColadaPirate again for this pro tip)

Guide: Krex is an easy boss for Sair and one of our most OP fights in game. Little to no dismount, stationary boss, and very good positions to stand with minimal bouncing. The most "afk attack"-able boss for Sair and we are top tier DPS for Krex. It's great XP and the ring is one of your best in slot if you can get a godly one. Strongly recommend you run Krex 2x daily from 135-160 if possible, and keep running until you get a godly ring.
    • Krex is a two stage fight with a left eye and right eye. The differences between them are minor, though
    • Krex eye has very large contact damage (7-9k) so don't touch the eye or it can be lethal if you have low HP
    • Krex casts gene and beam attacks at most of the map for ~2.5K damage
      • If your ship doesn’t have much HP, you will need to dodge beam attacks
      • Attacks don't reach under the main platform, so you can safely park mules there
        • If you are bringing HS just remember to MG during 2nd eye before summons in case your BS gets knocked into gene range
    • Hitting either eye with egg is a bit annoying, you will have to jump-attack on the main platform
    • If you’re over level ~160, most of the challenge in this fight is avoiding hitting the 100 attack maximum, seriously. Just do a few stutter steps back and forward every now and then and try to stay awake
    • First/left eye:
      • First eye will WC often; if you or your PT can bring CR, this is ideal, but the WC is pretty short for Krex so you can just rebuff and drink some water
      • There are two possible strats for left eye, based on your battleship HP i.e. level
      • Strategy 1 - If you are level 135 - 160: Stand on platform and dodge
        • Positioning:
          • Stand at archer spot on far left platform
          • Your feet need to be below the line (show jon’s image)
          • Use the “slide down” method - stand near the edge and jump while mounted, you will slide down. Dismount to check your feet are below the line that runs across the top of the metal platform
          • [IMG]
        • Animations:
          • Watch out for the beam attack being very close to you
          • You need to dismount AND cast RF. RF animation will ensure you are not hit by beam attack and don’t have to reposition. Repositioning while you’re getting attacked is very time consuming here
          • [IMG]
      • Strategy 2 - If you are level 160+: Stand in melee spot and do not dodge
        • Positioning:
          • When in battleship, stand at the melee spot here, in the little crook next to the eye. This way you will not get bounced or moved around much
          • If your battleship dies, stand at the far left platform per above and use RF
            • However: your battleship shouldn’t die! If you don’t have enough battleship HP to tank hits and survive first eye, don’t do this strat, do strat 1 above
        • [IMG]
    • Second/right eye:
      • No more WC! Just DPS it down
      • There will be two waves of summons at 30% and ~27% respectively but these are a joke, you should be able to ignore them, just don't let them knock you into the eye
        • If you have brought HS, pay attention and MG here again as your BS can get bounced into gene range and die
      • Positioning:
        • When in battleship, again stand in melee area here:
          • If your battleship HP is low, dodge beam attacks
        • When out of battleship, stand at the main platform and use RF (Octopi will not reach)
        • Another option presented is to stand far right on the tree branch, but you will have to reposition often here, so this is not recommended

    • Notable Rewards: Zak helm (typically sold 60m), CS, Gen20, SB service (typically sold 20m)
    • HP to survive: 3500without HB, 2600 with HB
    • Level: 50 to enter, 135 to get EXP
    • Prequest guide link: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/zakum-prerequisite-guide.10723/
    • Prequest effort: Medium to High (High if you hunt your own gold teeth - buy if possible)
    • Boss HP:
      • Arms: 22-33m each (varies)
      • B1: 66m
      • B2: 88m
      • B3: 110m
    Guide:
    • Note that you need at least one Eye of Fire (EoF) in your inventory to enter Zak
    • One person will need to drop an EoF to summon Zak - that person gets NX. If this person is you, make sure you have at least one extra EoF so you don’t get locked out!
    • Zak is primarily killed for the helms from body and EXP from arms. Sometimes parties run Zak arms only just for the XP but this is not common
    • Zak is a 2 stage fight with arms phase and then a body phase with different abilities.
      • Arms phase: 4 arms per side, each with a unique ability, see image below
      • Body phase: There are 3 bodies to kill, but they all have the same abilities, just longer and longer health bars and more spawns.
    • You can enter Zak at level 50. You will not get any XP, but you should definitely do this at level 50 to scroll the Zak helm for INT. You can easily get 30-40 INT from these helms making them very strong for washing
    Arms:
    • Arms each cast various unique abilities - the most annoying is the curse arm, which will cast various debuffs - Seal and Darkness being particularly problematic as they stop DPS for the whole party and force NLs to actually look at their screen to notice they've been missing for 3 minutes straight. There is also an arm that increases weapon def, effectively a DPS loss, so that is a priority target too
    • There are two options for attacking during Arms:
      • Option 1: Single target. If you're running Zak at 135-144 (most likely), this is probably what you will use as you don't have max torpedo yet.
        • Use when:
          • Your torpedo isn't maxed, or
          • Your group is mostly single target (NL/SE/Sair)
        • You will be focusing one arm only using egg
        • You might need to try a couple of times to get the egg on the correct arm, just be patient
        • Priority #1: Curse arm (Status effects)
        • Priority #2: Weapon Def up arm
        • Priority #3: For melee parties, whatever arm isn't in range of your party's melee skills. This typically means the top right arm and bottom left arm
      • Option 2: Start with AOE. If you're running Zak and you're higher level, torpedo can be OP here for multitarget
        • Use when:
          • Your torpedo is maxed, and
          • Your team is mostly AOE, meaning Drk/Hero/Shad/BS actually casting Gene (i.e. not just HS mule)
        • Fire torpedo on mid platform. Your torpedo should be able to reach both sides making it very strong for arms phase
        • At some point when there are only a couple arms left alive, switch to single target with egg and focus the remaining arms down
    Body:
    • There are 3 bodies with increasing health but they all use the same abilities
    • Zak body does lots of damage (~8K) so try not to touch the body especially with your ship
    • Zak will WC often and for long; CR is pretty much mandatory
    • Zak will also Seal often - bring lots of ACP
    • Zak will summon lots of flying mobs
    • Zak will also summon tombstones to fall from the sky - these will stun you for a long time
    • Two possible strategies:
      • Strategy 1: Cross Zak and tank flying mobs
        • Pros: MUCH better DPS and experience for the fight - NL experience
        • Cons: Have to cross over body to rebuff if with a party
        • To do this, cross over to other side of Zak (either by tanking body if your HP is sufficient or using TPs at the top here)
        • Then use Air Strike (or splitter) to aggro some flying mobs down to you
        • The flying mobs will do very small damage, and keep you on damage iframes, so that you don’t get hit by 1/1s or stuns
        • Make sure you egg Zak body first so you can attack through!
          • You will need to re-egg each body, so you may have to kill flying mobs to do so
        • Note that you will have to go back and call out party buffs every 5 mins. Make sure you tell your party in advance that you’ll be doing this, it isn’t that painful for them to press the button once more for you every 5 mins
      • Strategy 2: Stay with group and dodge attacks
        • Pros: Party buffs can be cast in position
        • Cons: Have to constantly dismount and dodge falling rocks
          • Your primary focus should be to dodge the 1/1 attack animation.
            • Zak is the spammiest of all 1/1 attacks other than The Boss, so you need to dodge a lot
            • You can bring Melting Cheese instead of Elixir/PE here to avoid your battleship getting melted by 1/1s if you miss
          • You should also dodge falling rocks. Move to the gaps and keep attacking. Dismount while they fall if they’re nearby, as ship hitbox can be sensitive and stun you even when you've threaded the needle. (This is good practice for VL later as well)
        • Do not cast Gaviota or Air strike if doing strategy 2, as they will aggro flying mobs down, and the mobs will knock around mules and other ranged, perhaps into body and dead (never assume other players are paying attention when gaming, particularly to their mules!)
    • 1/1 attack:
    • Stun rocks:

This is actually two bosses, Targa and Scarlion. You can summon only one or summon both and fight at the same time. They are hunted for the helms as the EXP is not good. Note that unlike EoF, you do not need a bear in your inventory to enter the map, but you will need one bear for each summon. They are very easy to get as the item quest takes ~3 mins for 2 bears.

    Guide:
    • This is a bit of a DPS race with a 30 minute timer to down them before you're teleported out
      • If you're only fighting one boss, this shouldn't be a challenge unless you're undergeared/underlevelled
      • Fighting both at once can be challenging to make the timer if you don't want to apple
    • Both bosses have 3 bodies:
      • The first body is an absolute joke and will do 1 damage with no abilities
      • The second body is pretty much also a joke - now it will do a bit of damage but not much
      • The third body has as much HP as both B1 and B2 put together and does a lot of damage and annoying abilities
    • During B1/B2 you can and should sit on top of the bodies to tank damage since it's lower damage on the ship
    • Scarga will WC often - bring CR
    • During B3 there are some animations to dismount for: (add)
    • Scarlion:
      • Pretty easy. Attack from range. Touch damage is ~6.8K so don’t get too close
      • 3rd body will do a lot of bounce damage so you’ll have to jump-attack to stay in position
      • You can’t dodge most attacks, just keep up DPS. His white swings only do about 2.5K damage so your ship won’t take too much damage
    • Targa:
      • One of the few bosses that is not recommended for Sair - it’s cancer and suboptimal
      • Annoying for all 3 bodies as it will levitate and get iframes even during B1/B2 for some time, slowing DPS
      • B3 has lots of unavoidable attacks and “rush” attack which is so slow it can hit 2-3 times
      • “Rush” attack will reposition past you so you will have to turn to hit, and RF will result in gun swings rather than shots
      • Targa will stun often during all 3 bodies
      • You can recoil shot back and keep attacking during rush and reposition back forward again with recoil shot. It sucks but it’s better than nothing
    • A viable strategy if fighting only one boss is to summon the other one and use it as a “puppet” - ignore it and sit on it for the 1 damage iframes. You can egg the boss you’re hunting carefully to avoid DPSing the “puppet” boss. This is easy mode but party AoE damage may push to 2nd or even 3rd body if you have strong Drk for example.
      • If you’re hunting Scar and you summon Targa, you will get stunned occasionally from his attacks, but if he stays on B1 he will miss often, and hopefully you can tank body hits all the time to avoid this
      • You can use Hypnotize to deaggro the “puppet” boss, but this may result in them wandering off so you can’t tank hits - YMMV

    Guide

Shao is the single best XP per minute in the game, and your absolute bread and butter for XP from 145 to 180+. You can run once per day - people will often run back to back (B2B) around reset.
    • This fight is a single phase DPS race with a 10 minute countdown timer
    • 3 clones are summoned after Shao takes enough damage, around 85-70% (varies each run)
    • Sairs are very OP for Shao for two reasons:
      • We bypass clones to damage Shao directly with the egg Homing Beacon skill
      • We can freeze clones so that they are less chaotic and easier to control
    • However Shao pushes a lot of sustained damage so it will be punishing on your battleship
    • Definitely bring Amorian baskets for this fight!
    • Do not forget to egg Shao in the opening, or you will spend most of the fight killing clones rather than DPSing Shao, and your partner will be mad and wish they brought NL instead of you. The ultimate shame for a Sair.
    • Positioning:
      • In battleship:
        • Stand on the spike pad on the right hand side of map:
        • The reason for this is that the spikes will hit you very often for only 10-20 damage, saving your ship big damage
        • You will usually get bumped right, towards Shao, so after 2-3 hits dismount and Recoil Shot to return to position
        • You can cast ice splitter in the air during recoil shot when clones are active and land on the spike strip, remount and back to DPSing Shao, like so:
      • Out of battleship:
        • Stand to the left of spikes
        • The spikes are great when you’re in your ship, but when you’re dismounted they bounce you around a lot
        • Also if you're too close to Shao, you can take white swings at clones or some of his attack animations that "project" him forward, which is a DPS loss
    • Octopi:
      • I recommend you only cast Octopi until clones spawn, and only when Shao is in the air (more on his attacks later)
        • Cast Octopi to the left of the spike pad so they won't knock clones the wrong way when they spawn
      • Octopi are not affected by Homing Beacon. So Octopi will only be hitting clones, which is not your DPS priority
      • Also Octopi will knock clones around, having them break pin, aggroing them to you and preventing melee from rushing
    • Clones:
      • Besides the parrot on the real Shao from your egg, clones are very easy to tell apart as they will all appear in blue (imagine having 3 clone body doubles and not texting the boys in the morning that you're wearing red today)
      • If partner is melee: let them pin clones before you freeze, and keep them frozen
      • If partner is ranged: you will have to split clones
        • Lure clones left and freeze them away from Shao
        • Make sure you still give your Sair enough space to be in the ship on the spike pad, but close enough to the clones that you won’t miss freezing them
        • Remember to refreeze them before the freeze wears off so they don’t go for a little stroll over to your mules and kill your HS!
      • Keep clones frozen at all times!!!!!
    • Animations:
      • Shao has two big attacks to watch out for:
        • He flies in the air and launches fireballs that 1/1 with wide range
          • You have plenty of time to dismount before this one, it's a very slow animation
          • You can't DPS Shao while he's in the air and clone damage is waste
          • Use this "free time" to refresh booster and freeze clones
          • [IMG]
        • He stabs a fiery spear horizontally for 11-12.5K damage
          • This can be hard to see past your melee, you'll just see the red flame tip of the spear (see animation)
          • You will have to react very quickly to this one - dismount immediately (in this gif I am a fraction of a second too slow)
    • Other Shao swing attacks do ~3.5-5K damage. You cannot dodge the flame attack but you can dodge the spear throw:
    • If you keep clones frozen 100% you can dodge every attack except flame burst - do this if you are low level. You should aim for 0 ship deaths but 1 is acceptable if near the end
    • At lower levels you will probably need to apple and that's fine - you will graduate to stopper and eventually gizer quickly enough; the EXP is worth the apple
    Muling:
    • The unspoken rule is, whoever brings HS gets loot
    • HB/SE/SI mules:
      • Your ship CD is a perfect time to rebuff, and if your ship is low, you should purposely destroy your ship to break at around 5:15 timer
      • Recoil shot away from Shao so you don’t get hit by his attacks while you walk mules
      • You can alt-F4 the mule client at that point since these skills last 5 minutes, so don’t waste time walking back
      • If you are splitting clones, don’t forget to keep flipping back to your Sair every 3-4s to refreeze the clones while you walk your mule(s) or your encounter will get very scuffed
    • HS mule:
      • I recommend you make your BS the party leader before entering:
        • This way your BS is the one to click the banner to start your encounter, and you can tele your BS left to safety immediately upon entering, rather than having to switch clients and potentially let BS get hit
        • BS are very vulnerable to Shao’s large smash hit (anything lower than 3.2k HP is vulnerable even with MG) and you don’t want to waste EXP by missing HS
        • Also if anyone dies and you need res, you won’t want a dead BS at that point
      • Don’t forget to cast Magic Guard and Invincible before you go in!

    ***Coming soon***

Sorry - HT is a whole section in and of itself. I'll put this out very shortly but I want to release the rest of the guide first.

For now, here are a couple of full runs from @PinaColadaPirate for your reference:
    • Regular HT:
    • Shad HT:

I am combining all info for Neo Tokyo. You can start the questline as early as 140 but Auf only gives XP at 175.

    Vergamot (Verga)

    • Notable rewards: WS Frag A, NT crafting items (Coins, Sealed Stone etc), Dragon Khanjar, 5K
    • HP to survive: 12K
    • Boss HP:
      • B1: 145m
      • B2: 85m
      • B3: 70m
    Guide:
    • Verga is a two stage fight with 3 bodies. The first two bodies are essentially the same with heavy dispel particularly in B2 (dispel is a frequent theme in NT)
    • B1 & B2:
      • Positioning: Stay at bottom in water
      • Animations:
        • When Verg steps forward, he's about to cast beam to dp
        • Step or recoil shot into him to tank the hit to avoid dp and kb
      • [IMG]
    • Body 3:
      • Positioning:
        • If you do not use good positioning this fight is terrible with lots of stuns sed and attacks to dodge
        • Stand in the water at the back you won't get hit by attacks, sed or stun, so you all you need to manage is 100 attack limit
      • [IMG]
    • This is a bad fight to bring mules, particularly HS, as you will eat so many dp that you will likely die at some point. I only have the kill on my bs cause my pro friends res me after I die f3

    Dida and Marr

Your next encounter is a protect PQ and all the information you need is in the prequest guide. This is not a boss and doesn't need any Sair specific instructions.

The only tip I have for you is that you can use blank shot to stun the flying mobs to the ground then torpedo them (unless they fall through the floor which they sometimes do - still better than having them damaging Dida though)

    Dunas v1
    • Notable drops: EP, 5K NX, NT crafting items, Dragon Khanjar
    • HP to survive: 16k (during Damage Reflect)
    • Boss HP: 230m
Dunas v1 (usually called just v1) is one of the few bosses Sair is not great at. Many Shads hunt this boss daily for EP/khanjar chances but as a Sair you should kill once for Olaf/pres and mostly avoid except for fun

    Guide:
    • Easy but annoying fight as he teles around a lot, dispels, casts darkness and stuns, and DR
    • He has some iframes during some casts
    • During DR, cannon battleship attack is okay as long as your health is high enough to survive, but do not use RF, it can kill you immediately even with high HP. Cast octopi and wait it out
    • DR will not damage your ship
    • Stand up on the platform to avoid dispel
    • Hopefully you have a BS for holy shield and dispel, otherwise get ACPs ready for darkness and water ready to drink during stuns
    • Positioning: There are two possible strategies here, based on your attack range.
      • Strategy 1: If your attack range can NOT reach 14K including MW20, Echo and attack pot e.g. apple (this is most likely you)
        • Stand on the platform and try to keep to the far right so you don't get yeeted left
        • If Dunas wanders too far left, you will have to shift over to hit him, but remember he will tele back to the middle of the platform sometimes, so get ahead of him with Recoil Shot to the right
        • If you have a Bucc, they can macro Snatch to keep Dunas mostly in one spot for the melee, which will help you too
      • Strategy 2: If your attack range CAN reach 14K including MW20, Echo and attack pot e.g. apple
        • This only applies to roughly the top 20-30 ranked Sairs on server so it's a bit niche
        • At this range you will knockback v1 reliably enough to pin outside of range for most of his attacks (need to dismount for a couple)
        • Pin left but standing on the lower platform
        • This is very multi-attack friendly particularly with Bucc
        • More images and full run to be posted shortly
        • Huge thanks and props to the pro @Straalman for this strategy and info!!
        • Full run from @Straalman:
    • Animations
      • Honestly I'm lazy and don't dismount for his attacks as they don't hit that hard
      • The most important animation is the DR so you know to stop using RF if battleship is on CD:

    Nibergen
    • Notable drops: WS Frag B, 5K NX, NT crafting items, Dragon Khanjar
    • HP to survive: 11.5+ recommended
    • Boss HP:
      • B1: 172m
      • B2: 95m
      • B3: 82m
    Guide
    • This is a simple and fairly easy single stage fight with 3 bodies - they have basically the same abilities but b3 will power kb spam constantly
    • Bring CR as he will WC a lot
    • Positioning: You will stand close under Niberg, below the lip of the platform to miss the horizontal laser
    • [IMG]
    • Animations:
    • His main attack is a power knockback nuke which will stun you as well
      • This is a major DPS loss as the stun + walking back are time consuming
      • In b3 this spam is constant
      • To avoid this, similar to Verga, you are going to dismount and jump into him
      • If you position it perfectly, you'll fall right back into good position at the lip of the platform
      • Note that this will do ~10-11K damage each time on b3 so you have to have enough HP to do it and it will chew through your pot stack
      • [IMG]
    • Dismount with good timing to avoid diagonal laser:
    • You may have to reposition slightly backwards with recoil shot to avoid forcefield
    • Ignore the other attacks and spawns, your job is to DPS the boss

    Nameless Magic Monster (NMM)
    • Notable drops: WS Frag A, 5K NX, NT crafting items, Dragon Khanjar
    • HP to survive: 15K
    • Boss HP: 430m
    Guide:
    • NMM is a very easy single phase boss that doesn't move around much
    • Positioning: Stay at long range to avoid crazy skull
    • Animations: Avoid touch damage and dismount for his lightning attack

    Dunas V2
    • Notable drops: WS Frag C, 5K NX, NT crafting items, Dragon Khanjar
    • HP to survive: 15K
    • Boss HP:
      • Dunas Unit: 100m
      • Dunas himself: 250m
Commonly just called v2, this is more annoying to deal with but pretty simple.

This is a two stage fight starting with the Dunas unit (Dunas himself will be invulnerable until it's defeated) then Dunas himself. There will be some useless time waste adds that respawn, which melee and BS should keep out of the way.
    • Dunas unit:
      • Egg the Dunas unit to start the fight on mid platform, melee should rush it left to keep it in range
      • Stay as far to end of range as possible to avoid most attacks
      • You shouldn't have to dismount for much of anything during this as damage from Dunas is pretty sparse here
    • Dunas himself:
      • After Dunas unit dies, Dunas will respawn on bottom platform
      • Have melee rush away spawns to right and keep them distracted with a BS on safe platform using Gene and/or Doom
      • He will cast dispel fairly frequently and darkness occasionally
      • Positioning: Pin Dunas left and DPS him down
      • Animations:
        • Dunas doesn't attack that much or that quickly, so it's fairly easy to dodge his attacks
        • [IMG]
        • However attacks can be hard to see with melee stacking on body
        • [IMG]
        • Please ignore the fact that I’m struggling in these gifs - 6 clienting at v2 is not for the faint of heart and this was my second v2 run ever. I’ll record a non scuffed run later
    Full run -

Level: 146+ to enter, 155-175 to get XP

This is a 4-stage expedition with 3 bosses and 1 (super easy) jump quest. This is the real reason we do the NT pres- to kill Auf, the former Big Bad before VL, and get her sweet sweet helm and scrolls.

Note that no bosses drop anything of any value except for Auf

    Stage 1: Royal Guard (RG)
    • HP to survive: 19K - make sure he's pinned before you go in if your HP is below this, but otherwise you shouldn't get hit by him
    • Boss HP: 400m
    Guide:
    • This fight is dead ez: most of the fight is, position yourself and spank. Your biggest challenge will be staying awake, and avoiding the 100 attack limit
    • Melee will pin RG to the left
    • Mobs handling: BS/SE mule should go halfway up the stairs and hold aggro with summon to keep adds away from boss - summon will automatically aggro mobs who will hang out by the elevator pillar
    • Positioning:
      • You have two options. The most common is to go to the safe spot highlighted below in light blue (press up to use the hidden portal marked “Tele” in red)
      • Hug the left side of the safe spot to avoid getting hit occasionally and taking needless ship damage
        • Royal Guard can cast flying orbs that can knock you off the shelf. Staying towards the left helps you tank one orb without getting knocked down. You should dismount for this attack. It’s not a very frequent attack so just need to be careful here
        • The mob dash can also knock you off the shelf spot, if they’re not aggroed to right
      • There's another spot near the escalator handle where you could do better DPS, if you have over 19k hp. In safe spot above, you lose DPS when RG dashes. Escalator spot won’t have this problem, but need to stay focused in case RG is not pinned
        • Your positioning must be pixel perfect here - see the ship image below. The edge of ship must be exactly at the edge of the escalator handle (credit to @TofuMasterD for finding this)
        • The picture of the battleship indicates where you should be positioned
      • [IMG]
    • Chandelier: You can drop a chandelier on the head of the RG to deal 50m dmg.
      • If you're elected to drop the chandelier, tele up and kill the chandelier (this is marked in yellow in the positioning image above)
      • You will lose all EXP from doing this, but it's worth it, your time is more valuable than the 1-2% you'll get here
      • Note that the chandelier does 30k+ touch damage so make sure you're not under it when it falls!!
    • Animations: n/a
Stage 2: Jump Quest (JQ) One person hits the first switch so the 2nd can pass, 2nd hits the switch so the 3rd can pass, then all 3 hit the same time so everyone can pass. The prequest link for Neo Tokyo will show you the exact details of how to do it but once you've done it once you won't have a hard time. If I can do it by myself with 6 clients, you can handle it on your own f3
Note: I will update this later to show safe spots and a demonstration video

    Stage 3: Core Blaze

    HP to survive:
n/a - this boss does not attack, and does 60k touch damage so you can't expect to survive a touch hit
    Boss HP: 450m

    Guide:
    • This fight is a snooze except for adds and touch damage. Core blaze does ~60k touch damage, so the whole point of this fight is do not touch the funny computer and avoid 100 attack limit
    • You can attack from either right or left side by going across with the teleporter:
      • Left side is sometimes preferred by ranged
      • Right side is much better for melee and is overall more commonly done
      • Right side is also preferred because ground mobs will knock mules into the bottom right wall so you don’t have to worry about them dying to flying adds
    • Flying adds:
      • Flying adds can kill you, launching you into core blaze to die. This is the only real danger in this boss. Stop everything and kill them
      • Fying adds spawn in at these boss HP values:
        • 90.9%
        • 50.9%
      • The adds will spawn in 3 different waves at each HP value, and the next wave will not spawn until you have killed all in that wave. Check both sides to ensure you have cleared the last flying add
      • Flying adds cannot be frozen but they can be stunned with blank shot
      • Some pt do not like to stun the flying adds as they will drop to ground when stunned - confirm with your team first if they want you to stun them or not
      • If there is a BS mule on run they can Doom the flying adds but someone still needs to kill the snails
      • After the first flying adds spawn, Blaze will continue to summon ground units, but you can ignore those as you'll be on platforms
    • Note that getting launched into Blaze can be very bad; you can be res-proof, in that sometimes you can't get out of his hitbox in the tiny res iframe before you die again
    • Positioning: wherever you feel like
    • Animations: n/a
TL / DR: YOU MUST PAY ATTENTION AROUND 90% AND AGAIN AT 50% AND FOCUS ADDS IMMEDIATELY OR RISK WIPE. Otherwise this boss is super ez.

    Auf Haven
    • Notable drops: Auf Haven helm, Auf Haven helm scrolls (miracle, others), CS, EP, Dragon Khanjar, 5K NX, NT crafting items
    • HP to survive: 17K
    • Boss HP:
      • Cursed Auf Haven and Summoned Auf Havens: 20m
      • Auf Haven: 600m
There will be a little summon stage in the elevator where you have to kill a bunch of mobs, then a safe area where you have to click - good time for a bio break if you need it!
    • While there is a single spawn to kill first, really this is a single phase boss fight, unless you consider the last 25% where Auf can sed left as a separate phase
    • This is actually a pretty easy fight if you have enough HP and DPS - not too skill intensive
    • Cursed Auf Haven:
      • Soon as you enter map, there will be a Cursed Auf Haven wandering around
      • You will down her quickly and easily - be ready for Auf to spawn fast
      • Cursed Auf Haven does very little touch damage - you can stack on body to do max DPS with iframes (avoid dismounting)
    • Auf Haven herself:
      • DPs often with energy ball
        • Note that DP + energy ball doesn't hurt ship as DP triggers first
      • Summons Auf clones
        • These are at HP of 70%, 50%, 30%
        • 1st and 3rd summons spawn bottom while 2nd spawns top (can kill BS mule)
        • You can use Hypnotize on Auf to deaggro her during summon spawns - just a bit more chill this way
      • Mass seduce:
        • Auf will cast mass sed right for 5s every 30s
        • At 25% HP, she mass sed left or right - after sed left there is a 90s CD on the next sed left (use a timer for this)
        • HW is your friend when sed but save your HW for sed left around 25%
      • Positioning: Assuming your party pins left, stand in mid at far end of your range:
    • Yellow indicates tele locations; purple is smoke location for Shad. Battleship indicates your preferred position here that is far enough to miss melee swings, but close enough that you can walk into the dash attack (see animations below)
      • Animations:
        • Genesis - long cast, dismount for this
      • [IMG]
        • Dash attack - this will end with a stun sword slash. You can dismount and walk forward to get touch iframes as she dashes to avoid the stun
      • [IMG]
        • Wing flap - You will have to look for the yellow animation to see this coming as it’s a fast animation (sound helps here as you can hear it)

    Prequest link: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/lhc-lkc-pre-quest-guide.207734/

    150 - Bearwolves (BW)

LHC isn't a boss but it's pretty important because it's amazing EXP, and since there is a big gap in new bosses from 145 to 175. (Though if you are running Shao daily and HT/Krex often you will burn through these levels quickly at first - LHC daily on top of that will really accelerate this)
    • Sairs are actually good at LHC BW, roughly ~B tier
    • Though nerfed, LHC is the best XP in the game from 150-165 or so
      • While less EXP than Shao per minute, it's longer and more sustained
      • You can expect to get 1-2 levels per 1 hour BW run from 150-155 and 1 level per hour until about 165 or so
      • Party XP drives this so don't expect things like EXP coupons to make a big difference
    • It’s often hard for Sairs to get invited to LHC BW, as Sair is a misunderstood class. Because we are top tier single target like NL, people assume we are NLs and not good at AOE, which is incorrect
      • There are ranged parties available these days which are easier to join as Sair
      • I personally feel that joining melee parties is appropriate as Sair, as long as there are enough rushers (2-3) and you’re not taking a rusher spot
      • Like Buccs, Sairs deal most damage when 6 mobs are alive - how useful this is will depend on your party makeup. It’s best to have a mix of 6-mob classes (Bucc/Sair/Pally), 4-mob classes (Shad) and 3-mob classes (Hero/Drk)
    • Bearwolves are weak to fire but not ice. However, using splitter instead of torpedo is not a significant DPS loss since they are weak to fire - YOLO that ship firing torpedos till it breaks then use splitter and don't feel bad
    • Logistics:
      • Make sure to have glaze and blaze capsules on you for this, at least 2 stacks
      • It is generally expected to apple through the full 1 hour so plan to hydrate for an hour straight and bring at least 6 apples
    • Guide:
    • You will have to follow the rushers’ lead and listen to instructions in chat for which platform to attack (t=top, m=mid, b=bot)
      • The rule is only clear top when it has 4 or more mobs - you will hear t4 or t5 in chat to indicate how many mobs are there
      • Turn off your minimap to better see mobs on the top platform when you’re fighting in mid
      • Keep your eyes on the chat and move to bot/mid/top accordingly after the stack of mobs is dead. Do not move with your rushers, they go a bit before the mobs are cleared to centre the mobs on the next platform
      • Most parties move to next platform when only one mob is left. If you think the mob is very low on HP, and your battleship is alive, you can consider staying an extra few seconds to focus that mob with egg and cannon. Don’t stay too long though especially if rest of the party is already AOEing the other mobs. If the mob doesn’t die in 3-4 seconds of focused egg attacks just abort.
The EXP will slow down a lot from all sources in your mid-160s, but once you start to get 170-175 you will have some new bosses to play with that will help speed it back up again.

    170 - Golems

Sair are not good at LHC golems, and I do not recommend you search for a party. You will probably not get accepted and you won't do very much damage.

You will have to kill golems for VL scroll though, so you should know what to do. It’s real easy anyways.
    • Melee will rush golems to mid and DPS will AOE them down
    • Golems will power knock back which is very annoying - Shad + Bucc combos are very OP here
    • Golems do a lot of damage and your ship will break a lot unless you have a ton of smokes in your party (this is why Sair is not great at Golem)
    • Positioning: Stand at top or bottom spot with rest of team - the team will just cycle through those two positions
    • [IMG]
    • Use Torpedo when battleship is up
    • Use Splitter macro, Gaviota and Octopi when battleship is down
    • The golems will drop Burning Energy (BE) as well as Totems
      • You will need the BE for VL belt things, hang onto them
    • If you do join a full hour Golem party, it is very good EXP, most of a level right through to late 18X
    [IMG]

Toad is an easy fight for Sair, as long as you have enough HP. You should be able to have 0 ship deaths on your first run by following this guide. The headband is a good item for Sair if you’re scrolling gear for STR as it can have up to 8 STR clean (also some LUK which whatever).

    Guide:
    • Toad is a two stage fight with Castellan and then the Toad revealed
    • Castellan:
      • Will cast two abilities for high damage:
        • Marble toss - This one is a bit tricky. You have to look next to the boss itself to see it holding a bunch of marbles, as the damage hits before the animation is really visible
      • [IMG]
        • Archers - Castellan will summon archers behind to attack you, you have lots of time to dodge
      • [IMG]
    • Toad:
      • Will cast three abilities for high damage:
        • Tongue swipe - You can just bypass this entirely by standing at long range
      • [IMG]
        • Rain and Tsunami - These have long animations which you can easily time once you’ve learned them
      • [IMG]
    • The pro move for all of these attacks is to jump forward and cast Octopi in range of Toad, then fall back to range
    • Note from @PinaColadaPirate - toad has a weird bug that makes the tsunami attack change the hitbox (My testing/report here: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/fix-toad-hitbox-please.210826/#post-1538194)
    Full run:

    ***Coming soon***

I'll update this post release of the guide

    However full run is available:

RG is a decent way to make meso through gambling with totems if you're lucky, and a great way to level. It's also a good way to farm Burning Energy if you don't run LHC Golems. And you can get an untradeable 1 slot CS-able ring that will always be grey every run unless you're someone else.

The above guide really tells you everything you need to know about RG. There are a few Sair specific tips:
    • Check your battleship health and RC if needed so you're going in with full health
    • Get Echo before going in
    • Keymap the nets to a convenient key
    • CHECK YOUR NETS BEFORE GOING IN
      • Running out mid bonus is an own goal and feels bad
      • I like to do this anyways to ensure I always have 200, this makes it very easy to count how many bees I have captured and how many are left
    • DPS during first two maps and bonus map:
      • General strategy is tag everything with fire DoT and then move to where 5+ mobs are gathered, kill them while other mobs are walking to you
      • Use wings to cast Splitter macro while in the air, forwards and backwards
      • Use torpedo to kill mobs
        • Torpedo can hit two platforms if you’re on the higher one, so try to aggro two platforms’ worth of mobs to edge for maximum efficiency
      • You can use Air Strike to hit top platforms when you’re on ground
      • You can use Air Strike to aggro bees to fly to you, but only if you see less than 6 older (skills prioritize old mobs over new mobs)
      • When I’m on a platform, I like to drop octopi on platforms to finish off old mobs and to aggro new ones
    • During miniboss:
      • The miniboss will tele around, you'll need to re-egg each time
      • The mobs are very annoying; I find it better to fire splitter + octopi them and get rid of them rather than ignoring them through egg
      • Use wings to avoid the damage from miniboss power KB ability (ty to @Straalman for this pro tip!)
      • There is no way to tell from animation whether the boss is doing one swing (no KB) or two swings (second with power KB). Wings every time in ship, and you can keep attacking while jumping, and you'll miss damage either way
      • The ship hitbox as always is really glitchy with the falling green rocks, dismount if they're at all close to you or you'll eat a stun
        • You can also dismount and jump into the boss to get iframes and avoid stun
    • Bonus stage specifics:
      • You can only get a maximum of 20 bees now
      • All 3 bonus stage maps are identical in layout and mobs as the first three maps you already completed
      • First map is the best for golden bee farming
      • Second map is not recommended for anything
      • Third map is the only one for burning energy (BE) but you will likely not get a full bee count
      • Bees can escape if you don’t catch them in time. The timer is long but not that long
      • When a bee spawns and you can’t see it, and you’re in the middle of DPSing a pack, sometimes it’s worth spending an extra 2 seconds killing the pack first, as the bee may wander right past you.
        • If more than 1 bee spawns or has already spawned, drop everything and catch the bees ASAP
      • Count bees as you go - there is an indicator at the bottom that there are no more bees left, but it can take several minutes to show up (it only triggers when the 21st bee would have spawned), and it can be easy to miss with other indicators there like expiring Octopi
      • If you want, you can add nets to your Shortcuts for easy visibility here (I don’t bother)
    • @PinaColadaPirate has put together some great images here for all 3 maps (Regular and Bonus room, remember they are the same):
      • Red arrows indicate where you can use ropes to jump + flamethrower to tag the second floor plants without climbing all the way up
      • Yellow arrows indicate where you can torpedo 2 platforms
      • Green arrows show where you can outrange other platforms
      • Cyan are spots where the bees linger and move to - you can use this to your advantage to move ahead of them accordingly since you know where they will be going

    • Notable rewards: NX, EXP, Royal Bullet/Quiver/Stars manual, VL boots, VL belt/coin/parchment, VL pot
    • HP to survive: 17.5K (but I recommend 18K)
    • Boss HP:
      • B1: 1 000m (1b)
      • B2: 1 250m (1.25b)
      • B3: 1 750m (1.75b)
Guide: VL is currently the top meta boss in Royals. VL is hunted for belts, belt accessories (coin and medallion), and loot. It is fairly challenging, particularly to have zero deaths and zero ship deaths. VL is great because it makes all players play like Sairs for once - having to pay attention to animations and react VL is also probably the funnest boss.

There are many specific VL guides, before you run I would suggest reading up on it in more detail. I will cover the basics and Sair specifics only. If you're running for the first time, you should read the below guides at least once end to end, and this guide 2-3 times.
If it’s your first time running with a given leader, try to communicate with your leader in advance. Most leaders do not understand Sair’s strengths and limitations. One of the strengths of Sair for VL is the flexibility of our versatility. Essentially Sair can help to balance out the expeditions strengths and weaknesses by maximizing our contribution:
    • Expeditions with weak AoE clear: Sair should help with AoE, be in Smoke pt with SI, and always torpedo gargs - Prolonged gargoyle fight is really dangerous
    • Expeditions with good/decent AoE clear: Sair can go in smoke or SE/SI party. Check with leader in advance if it’s preferred to do AoE during gargoyles or stay focused on boss. Always focus mobs regardless of party.
      • Suggest you only join SE/SI party if you are confident in 0-1 ship death and no personal deaths
    • Expeditions with excessive warriors and less single target DPS: Sair should be the DPS dealer and ask to be in SE/SI party. During gargoyles, try to find open space to cannon VL. However always torpedo golems and double spawns.
More experienced leaders will usually do these things automatically (shoutout to DivineFate and Donn1e for being pro leads! Though there are many on server). Be understanding if you don’t get the party you asked for, it’s not always possible.

    General:
    • VL is typically run in 18-man or 12-man groups (occasionally some women in there too)
    • VL has 3 phases aka bodies and a 1 hour DPS timer
      • It's very rare that expeditions won't have enough pure DPS to clear in an hour - the Grand Fleet VL I run 18 mans with lately will often clear on gizer mans with >10 minutes left
      • Most of the DPS timer is to do with golems (more on this later) and deaths
    • Deaths are going to happen. That's part of why we bring lots of bishops and buccs to every VL run. It's like a WWII movie: you will die, your party members will die around you.
      • If you die:
        • Wait for instructions from your party leader about res. You may be asked to A) stay in party, if you already have a BS with res available, B) leave party and be ready to accept pt invite, or C) create a dead pt. Be responsive and follow instructions
        • Be chill about it, don't freak out. Wait for res and remain calm and focused
        • Learn from your mistakes
    • Don't die in jail. It's really really really easy.
    • Note that timing of attack hitting can be subject to lag, particularly in big groups. You’ll have to get used to individual runs. I find laser to often be quite laggy which can be awful
    • VL has many big damage attacks. Use PEs and make sure your HP settings is very high to ensure you’re not just a bit too low to survive.
    • Show up prepared for your VL run
      • Be on time, and have Dirty Knight's Magic Scroll in your inventory (the USE item),
      • Be in voice chat if your run expects it (most do),
      • Ensure you have enough PE, ACP, pet food, apples, stoppers, gizers and baskets for the run
      • Turn pet loot off, and turn off any distracting NX animations or other visual distractions - these can make it hard for your teammates to see falling rocks
      • Be familiar with the fight. Read this and the above guides thoroughly if you haven't run before
    • Once your VL run is over, usually your party will go to golems to hunt for scrolls again. Be ready for this, don't just log off after you loot belt or complete bon
    • VL is the boss with the most telegraphed and visible attacks in the game, so use this to your advantage to avoid ship damage as much as you can
    • Unlike other boss fights, I will post the animations as I discuss them as there is a lot to take in for each section. There are lots of animations in this to review and the guide is quite long here, with good reason!
    Smoke party:
    • There will be a party of mostly Shads and a Bucc called smoke party
    • You can ask to be included in this and it will make your run a LOT smoother and chilller
    • BE VERY CAREFUL ON TIMING OF SMOKE ENDING. It can be very easy to be too relaxed during smoke, only to have smoke timer expire right
      • Look at boss timer when smoke starts and do some quick mental math at when smoke will end
      • Smoke is 1 minute and 30 seconds long - the math isn't hard
      • At roughly 1 minute and 20 seconds, start paying lots of attention to rocks and lasers and get in good position for them in case smoke expires or this will be you:
Body 1: VL will cast Lightning (a lot), Bird, and Rocks aka Ankhs. He will also Scratch, Teleport, and summon Gargs.
    • Lightning:
      • Lightning will cause crazy skull and do around ~16.5K damage
      • Crazy skull can get you killed from rocks and stunned from birds - try to avoid at all costs. It can be lethal because it can expire mid movement:
    • (This one is so embarrassing to post because there is literally no rock within a mile, and I was nearly safe and walked into it when skull expired)
      • You have two options to avoid this.
        • 1) If in battleship, you can stay at long range here and you won't take damage. However, there is a very narrow window in range for cannon and out of range for lightning
    • [IMG]
        • 2) Stay at edge of range and walk or Recoil Shot out of range when animation hits, then go back to DPSing. This is preferred as it’s safer to not be out of range of your own attacks
    • [IMG]
      • If you need to be in range during lightning cast (e.g. when switching to attack from other side of body) try to recoil shot out of range. If you can’t, at least dismount and cast octopi for DPS.
      • Pro tip: If you get crazy skulled, count to 8 in your head for expiry. Sudden expiry can cause you to walk into a falling rock and die.
      • Note that you cannot outrange lightning with RF
    • Scratch:
      • Dismount for this animation. You cannot outrange it
      • The scratch does 17.5K damage and is where the hard HP requirement for VL comes from
      • [IMG]
    • Bird aka Vulture:
      • Bird will stun you and 1/1 you
        • If you get stunned, it can lead to you having not enough reaction time to get away from falling rocks
      • Easy to avoid - duck. Learn to time this between attacks
        • If you're crazy skulled, you need to press up instead of down
        • You do not need to dismount for this (though I do) but it is recommended if you are skulled
      • It is recommended to use Croco Mount Cover (from Olaf quest) during VL, as it has a lower hitbox and you can duck under bird while mounted. Other mount covers will still be hit if ducking
    • [IMG]
    • Rocks aka Ankhs:
      • Rocks are a 1-hit kill doing 200k damage
      • The ankh symbols at the top of the screen will show you where these will drop (like Zak or RG). Find a gap and move to it quickly and calmly
      • The hitboxes are VERY sensitive, you can't have even a pixel close to them or it may get you
      • If you're between two close rocks, DISMOUNT as ship changes hitbox and rocks already have slightly sensitive hitbox. I also stop attacking in this case
      • Rock damage does not seem to affect ship HP, for better or for worse
      • Suggest you use recoil shot only when desperate - it's more likely to get you killed than to save you
      • If you have a Pig/Silvermane/Draco mount, it can be useful here as well to get out of danger safely
      • Skull timer running out is a real problem; once you make it to safety, recommend you not press any other button as skull can expire right as you press a direction and kill you
      • Do not use wings to reposition anytime in VL as rocks can get you killed
      • You can attack with octopi/RF if you’re between rocks to maximize DPS - but personally I do not consider the minimal DPS to be worth the risk
      • There are basically three formations of rocks aka "lines":
        • 1) Nowhere near you. Just keep attacking in this case;
        • 2) On your position, but there's no other close rocks. Just move off rock and keep attacking; and
        • 3) A long line all around you and need to find a gap/run like hell. It’s only this line that there’s a problem - you need to react immediately and use recoil shot if needed. You should be able to escape most of these
    • [IMG][IMG]
      • Calmly move to a space
    • [IMG]
      • Sometimes you need to react fast!
      • Badly timed lag spikes can easily be fatal here
    • Jail:
      • VL will periodically teleport a few expedition members to jail at random - you will know it's you as you have a 2s map of falling down into the jail
        • Type "J" in party chat when you're falling so your party knows you're away
      • Jail room for Sair is just a set of ropes - Wings across the ropes carefully, smack open the chest in the middle, and then leave. This should take about 40s or less
        • Do NOT fall down as the mobs will 1-hit kill you like rocks
        • If you die in jail, wait for the timer to expire and let your party leader know you died. You will respawn in VL room on left side
        • Sair has a bug where the system doesn’t dismount the player when warping to jail. You look dismounted, but the icon is still on, and your ship is still taking damage. Make sure to mount/remount or manually click off ship in jail after being warped to avoid unnecessary ship damage upon your return
      • The gif of full jail is too big to post, so I had to reduce it so you can’t see full map, but here it is. Full map SS posted in sections below. As you can see it is very wide
      • [IMG]
      • [IMG][IMG]
      • [IMG][IMG]
    • Gargs:
      • Mobs of either type are your highest DPS priority - stop everything and DPS the mobs unless told otherwise specifically by leader (which will probably never happen)
      • Leader will usually call out mobs in advance based on timers, so you don’t have to be super aware of animation, but both gargs and golems use the same purple animation to summon
      • Leader will usually call for mobs to be pushed onto VL body for max AoE damage
      • Gargs do a ranged attack for 7-8k with very long range and touch damage of 4k.
        • If in smoke party: Use torpedo
        • If not in smoke party:
          • Not worth staying in ship for Gargs alone, use Splitter macro unless desperate
          • Sit on top of them while you DPS, because it can be impossible to see anything including your own location when rocks/ankhs fall, and mobs will ensure you're on damage/miss iframes
        • If you have lots of AoE in expedition, you may be able to to ignore gargs - look for open space and cannon. Make sure you communicate with your leader about this (personally I would ask before run)
      • If you see an escaped mob running amok, call it out in VC and DPS it with egg
    • [IMG]
    • Teleport
      • Your leader will ask you to attack from a certain side; respect whatever you are told and relocate
      • You will have to re-egg each time VL TPs
      • Always cast an octopi in between for extra DPS

Body 2: VL will cast B1 abilities and additionally summon golems, swipe, and DP.

    • Swipe:
      • Swipe will cause bleed DoT and do a bunch of damage (10-12K)
      • Remember to use ACP immediately for DoT as the 4k bleed tick can easily kill you if it ticks when another large attack hits (especially a vulture 1/1 hit, you will definitely die)
      • Stay at range to avoid swipes
      • Don’t use RF at the moment VL swipes. It can block autopot, meaning you can bleed to death
      • [IMG]
    • Dispel:
      • Nothing for Sair to do here other than recast booster, cast MW if you have MW20, and get back in ship. Though you may have to remind some players to rebuff (*cough* Bucc *cough*)
    • Golems:
      • These are absolute highest priority DPS target as VL will eat them to regain health - great way to not meet the 1 hour DPS timer
      • Golems do 1k touch damage so not a threat to ship. Sit on them for iframes
      • As above, use torpedo hard focus mobs until all dead
      • VL will do the eat golem animation below even if there are no golems alive. THERE SHOULD BE NO GOLEMS LEFT ALIVE WHEN HE DOES THIS or he will heal a considerable amount of HP. This is the real reason for failing the timer
      • Double mobs:
        • Golems and gargs will spawn at same time occasionally.
        • Always use torpedo when double mobs spawn regardless of ship hp. Try to get iframe from golems if you can
        • If Golems are summoned first, it's not a threat because your attacks will hit them over Gargoyles since they're the older mob on the map
        • If you get Gargoyles first and then Golems, try to face away from the Gargoyles when possible (not always possible) and only hit Golems
      • [IMG]
Body 3: VL will cast B1/B2 abilities and additionally cast Laser and Knockback:
    • Laser
      • Simply dismount and cast wings, you can remount and keep attacking during wings
      • Getting hit by laser is BAD as it will prone seduce you (can't HW) and make your screen red, so you can die unless BS save you by spamming heal, and you can wake up to a rock falling on your head. Don't let it happen
      • You can remove this sed with HW10 (and only HW10)
    • [IMG][IMG]
      • This is what your screen will look like if you get hit by laser - not fun
    • [IMG]
      • Not sure why, but I often lag during laser animations, this can make it tricky to avoid
    • Knockback:
      • KB is a type 3 attack, which means it selects random areas on the ground to hit (exactly like Rocks). The areas it will attack are not visible, so you can’t avoid it
      • Dismount + octopi while in range to maximize DPS
      • If you do this early enough, you can interrupt the KB by stutter-stepping in the direction of VL if you time it right
      • Use recoil shot to get back rather than mount
      • [IMG]
      • (Note that I should have dismounted here!)

    coming soonTM

    Planned updates

This guide is still under construction, with a few planned updates:
    • Finish guides for HT and The Boss, and add more videos/gifs for Auf - This won't take me long - I just wanted to get the guide out first and it's already massively long. HT in particular is a key fight so I will push to get this out soon
    • Add more images for RG and Blaze, NMM, V1, Scarga
    • Add a brief leveling guide focused on PQs and leeching (assuming you will have high INT)
    • Add more charts and formulae to the DPS Formulae section - This is not a high priority but there is lots more data in the Sair community that I an add here
    • Translations - I am hoping to translate this guide into both Chinese and Spanish as Royals has large communities of both speakers. I will use AI to do the translation but I am hoping for a native speaker to read through for errors and AI slop. My Spanish is probably almost okay enough to do this, but I don't speak or read any Chinese so I would definitely need help there!! If there are any volunteers from the Chinese or Spanish speaking communities, I would really appreciate it (and so would your colleagues who play on this server!)

I would like to thank the pros who helped me with their advice, mentorship and guidance: @PinaColadaPirate, @TofuMasterD, @Dong*, @eVolve, @Vinilos, @Straalman, and @Donn1e, among countless others. And also to @Dave Deviluke for his help and patience with several technical aspects of working with the site.

An extra special thank you to:
    • @PinaColadaPirate is basically a coauthor at this point. He has provided such a wealth of strategies, details, formulas, to videos, to showing me how to grab animations, to pro tips, and to pushing me to publish this guide in the first place, really, it wouldn't have happened without you. Oh and every full run video in the guide. Thanks for making this guide *almost* as pro as you.
    • @Donn1e for her amazing tips and feedback, and showing me how to create these nifty header file images - as well as all the help, advice and friendship over the years, and leading by example on how to put together a professional and beautiful guide :) Also for tons of additional input particularly on Auf and VL fights!!
I would like to thank the many friends I have made along the way, and my guildies or former guildies in (chronological order for me!) Canadians, LiquorStore, Reach, Playboys, Rice, Wiggle, Tenacity, and Totoro, among many others. You are what makes this server special.

*Before you all @ me for saying nice things about a disgraced GM, I am aware that while I was away, Dong abused his position of power and earned his ban. I'm not trying to vindicate him for that. But he was still very kind and helpful to me and the whole Sair community with the only Sair bossing guide, and one bad thing does not erase a good one. In fact, this guide only exists because I was trying to help him with his guide, all those years ago.

    Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, I would also like to thank and give credit to the authors of the incredible guides I have referenced here: @Zancks, @bibz, @Donn1e, @Sylafia, @spaghettiOs, @Shiyui, @Dave Deviluke @Labour, @Devastated, @Jooon, @Dong, @Panduh, @Christine, @quaxko, @Sila, @Goku, @Aelyssia, @Al3x.

    And thank you for reading!!

    Very informative and well-written guide!
Sair is a strong class that has long been underestimated because only a few can truly unleash its full potential.
Really appreciate you sharing your technique and knowledge with the community!
I highly recommend that every new or early-game Sair read this guide and Dong’s guide if they want to master their battleship.

I prefaced my own Corsair guide with "it might be the only updated Corsair guide for the next 10 years" but here we are ^_^'
We're in 2026 and there's two new Corsair guides, this is crazy.

I have gifs of bosses that you're missing on my guide, and you can grab them if you want! I think I have attack gifs of almost every boss outside of Pianus/The Boss/NT/Auf/VL (I record footage specifically for anims).
If it helps complete your guide I totally don't mind :)

My guide is more for semi-casual play rather than the super optimization you've shown here, so you could link it for the less sweaty players maybe [:3]

See you in the high seas, fellow Corsair!

Thank you for the kind words! I didn't have the time to read your guide in full detail but I was reassured by the Sair community that there would not be too much overlap and that this information would be helpful. Always appreciate people passionate about the Sair community :) I've been working on this guide for years, so I promise, I wasn't trying to "one up" you or anything like that. Us Sairs are all on this ship together!!

I really appreciate your offer! I actually do have excellent videos from @PinaColadaPirate (they're already posted), it's just a matter of clipping things into .gifs, the long writeup that is HT in particular, and lots of formatting. (The Boss will be fast enough to do, but lower priority - HT is an important meta boss, The Boss is not). Auf, NT and Scarga still need some more love too but they're good enough for now.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by super optimization. There are only ultimately only two aspects of Sair play covered here, build and bossing guide (i.e. animations/positioning):
    • Build: Semi casual players do not benefit from building their character wrong i.e. investing SP or AP unwisely (particularly in 3rd job this can be disastrous)
      • More casual players may choose not to HP wash as much, which I explain the risks and options
      • This guide also covers how to get HP in other ways for those who have missed the washing step or cannot afford it
    • Bosses: Semi casual players do not benefit from not having correct information about positioning or attack animations:
      • Standing in the wrong location is so easy to fix and can have big results (look at the b3 Verga fight for example where I'm bouncing around like a noob and @PinaColadaPirate is chilling in the back with no ship dmg)
      • Attack animations must be learned if you're going to play Sair, and I've given only the minimum ones you absolutely need to know. Any Sair that can't learn to avoid these 1/1s or very high damage attacks, should go make NL
    • This guide also explicitly adds information for new players, including how to obtain "starter gear" for a cheap but strong Sair in the early game, including prices
      • The new player guide shows basics of how to get started financially on the server when you have no resources i.e. voting and APQ
I think what you're picking up on is my recommendation not to start with Sair, and to be prepared with funds for leech and at least some HP washing, which I would still 100% recommend. Sair 1st through 3rd job is not fun and is very weak, even with no base INT. No one will want you in their parties and the levels will be slow, and people will abandon their beautiful Sair for another character (or quit and play Siege or sth!). But this guide still tells you how to do this (I will be adding a "levelling" section with PQ options) and how to assign SP through those levels.

See you on the high seas indeed friend :)

I've already included a few bits about muling etc in each particular fight, as well as macro suggestions. As someone with a ton of experience multi attacking with Sair, I can say, it's really no different than single client - you need to pay attention, dodge where you can, use iframes to your advantage, and in some fights use HP pots strategically.

That said, I do use 2-3 computers for multi attacking, which is not how most of the community does it. I have Sair on main computer with keyboard, which has most of my attention, and use controller(s) for other computer(s). I'm also using melee for most of the other attackers which is much easier to multi because of stance (or avoid+iframes+smoke in case of shad).

HT specifically has Dong's trick about using mule computer to see feet, which I will include for sure. I can add notes about CR placement, rope etc., that's a good suggestion :)
Ultimately though I can tell you from experience that bringing any mule to HT is very painful (except sed or a washed BS) - you will spend most of the fight climbing ropes unless you have lots of smoke.
(Yes CR too - stance is a scam and by the time you get your CR in position your Sair will be bouncing around on the floor)

Edit: Others have asked about this too so I'll look to add a section for this in the future. Thank you maddles!

@archrelico Sorry to multi-reply, reading through your guide now. You have lots of great stuff in there for sure!
I definitely disagree strongly with this advice to new players as the #1 boss to fight is VL and #2 boss is Auf. Shao is a very important leveling boss giving great XP from 145 to 180+. Toad is less important but still a very signature "Corsair" fight - one of three that the community associates with bringing a Sair (Krex, Auf, and Toad are the 3 classic bosses that the whole community understands are Sair strengths).

I do not think planning to lock yourself out of the top bosses, while rolling a highly bossing-driven class, is a good strategy, and it's very slow to make up HP gaps from 10K to 18K - this will take years with Ruel.

To be honest I think this advice is very harmful to new players as they can level a character to 17X and realize they need to restart their character or be locked out of all end game content other than HT. Or spend an hour+ a day doing Ruel for years to fix their character. Easier and faster to remake character (and they will not roll another Sair in this case, I think).

And not to be elitist, but I think it is weird advice to say you can level to 200 without missing on much when your character isn't level 200 yet, there is a huge gap from 17X to 200 and to do it while locked out of Shao, Toad, Auf, and VL would be even slower.

@cagedmercury ty for the responses! It's 1am right now so I hope that this is a good response. It's actually helpful to get perspective from another Corsair since it's so hard to find anyone else in my own circle :'(

The tldr is that I think it's a difference in how I play the game (I play extremely faithful to og maple, so no leech and very little washing) and my personal goal was to just fight all og bosses that existed in pre-big bang (which I've accomplished!). I've actually fought Toad and Yaoseng, but with HB (bless my friends).
I think that's the main perspective difference between our guides, cause I really don't intend to fight Auf/VL and am content with the other things, even if it's much slower.

I 100% agree on your perspective that other players will likely be making a Corsair with the intention to fight every boss though, and my goal is not the same as others.
I'll take your advice and reword my HP section for both my goals + those intending to do every boss since I don't want to mislead people.

Also, no worries about "one-upping my guide"! I've already seen you talking about making a guide in other posts before, so I expected this to happen... just not so soon!

Honestly I'm very proud that the two most recent guides are Corsair ones LMAO. I hope this brings a renaissance 0:)

I think this is a very healthy and excellent idea, and I appreciate your commitment to an open and respectful dialogue on the subject
