"Stop" hacking by its core, Nerf Slash Blast! [No, I won't stop memeing this title] Ok, so lets talk about the universally hated aspect of mmos, hackers. There are many types of hackers for maplestory, from duping, to magnet hacks and whatnot. Lately I've ran into a lot of map hackers that either warp mobs to them, or attack them from afar. And I noticed something common to all of them. They were swordsmen. For the uninitiated it might sound like a weird pick, they have the worst damage and accuracy at the start of the game, why use them? Well, compared to all other classes, they have one special skill that makes their lives easier as hackers, Slash Blast. So, what makes it so good? It's the only first job attack that hits a lot of targets, which means they can magnet stuff to them and stand in place spamming slash blast and hitting everything. I bet the GMs have statistics of how many hackers that used mob magnet were swordsmen as well, or at least noticed the obvious pattern. So what can we do about it? [the nerf] Well that's simple, just nerf Slash blast by a bit. The best nerf to it would be to limit the amount of targets it can hit to 6. In most realistic cases, you won't be hitting more than 6 targets while training, 8~9 at best in specific places. This will make the nerf targeted at only the hackers without really hurting the already weak first job of swordsmen. Unless I'm overlooking something I don't think it will impact anyone but the hackers. "But that won't stop hackers from hacking!" ~ Villiger A Oh of course it won't, the title is cynical. But what it will do is lessen the damage these hackers do to our game and economy while they are active. Most hackers get caught at some point or another, but while they are hacking they are undermining the work of all of us, pumping items and meso into the game, skipping lvls, and even doing RWTing on the way. If we can slow their progress by a bit for no price to the normal gameplay whatsoever, then why the hell not?
sorry, this is BAD idea with good intentions!. first, you won't stop hackers by a nerf anyway, there are too many hacks that can boost your damage, attack speed and other nasty stuff so nerf ill hurt just the rule followers who don't use hacks. you can't nerf a skill that every warrior desperately need (at low levels), just to slightly annoy less than 10-20 hackers. and i can't see any warrior hacker the use this "mob-magnet" over farm the mages and essentially leechers. and since the entire economy is ruled and driven by the leechers alone! those hackers have ZERO effect to the ecconomy. so you end up nerf all warriors in order to do absolutely nothing. better solution is to have players report them and GM to improve their anti hack and detection system that already exist. i once report a guy (still got the image ) who had attack speed hack, and when i talk to GM he said that he alrady have been spoted by "the system" and he only had to manually ban him. and i bet they working on auto ban along with the this detection. he attack about 3 times in one attack. so again, this nerf idea even tho its in good intentions it will only hurt the good people.
Ok, few points, just take a few moments and look at the ban appeal section, every day or two you'll see yet another hacker getting caught, but who knows how many are still on the loose. So saying that they are not impacting the game is absulotly ludicrous in my eyes. And again, as I said, the title is a joke, I know hackers cannot be stopped. But I want to, at the very least, annoy them and make them use more detectable hacks like the damage increase and attack speed stuff that I bet are far more easy for the game to notice. And i want to you point into a single usecase of hitting more than 9 targets for a first/second job warrior, I'll wait The nerf itself doesn't impact anyone other than the hackers. Though, if the GMs, which clearly have more insight over this stuff think its dumb, then by all means close this thread lol.
i can assure you, nearly every single one of the people in the ban appeal, from hackers and vote abusers to RWT and botters, they are all the same small "group" of people who just ban evading.. you definitely can stop the vast majority of hackers with a good anti hack system. and yes base on the daily ban appeal section. everyday people DO get caught but those MOSTLY mages (100% as far as i see) who spam the same pattern of skills (like heal and mage ultimates) and NOT those mob-vac warriors you speak of.. (those mages do impact to the economy for sure!) but here you talk about the hackers warriors who can't and wont EVER over farm single normal leecher. so they don't impact economy in any way!. but they do have massive advantage that can't be overlooked. this is why auto ban system is by far the best solution! if you want the insight of a GM, what else can i say lets just wait.
Most of the hackers I've seen were mages. Time to nerf heal! Sadly not really a good idea to nerf skills just to deal with these types of players.
I mean you might as well nerf all mobbing skills. I still catch Priest doing full screen Shining Ray's at Dreamy Ghost's.
If this is true then this thread is meaningless and can be closed as well. but I remember it being able to hit more than 6.
a Like from someone called @Eli made you over this issue? umm.. let me guess this Eli is a... you know what, nevermind.. enjoy the like you got from the pritty girl. sorry a normal eye roll wont do!
according to https://ayumilovemaple.wordpress.com/2008/09/14/maplestory-warrior-skills/ it's only supposed to hit up to 6 targets. I don't think it hits more than 6, but it shouldn't be that hard to find out.
This is an incredibly dumb suggestion and I've got to call it out on that. You're treating the symptom and not the root cause of the issue which doesn't do anything. What this server needs is an autoban system that bans obvious hackers like these, and active GMs that patrol maps to catch the less obvious ones that get away. Lol. I hope you're not being serious about farming likes over a title if you actually want to argue your point.
Your first point is exactly my half joke, and no, one like from the person i made this title for is not "like farming" I'll admit that it was a bad suggestion, especially now that I know the skill doesn't hit 6 targets. I'll acknowledge that.
To put it bluntly that single like wouldn't even be there without the title. It's good to have suggestions and I'm glad that you're receptive to the comments.
Spoiler: couldn't resist sry But yeah as for your suggestion - it's tricky when figuring out things to do that will not affect players at large. I guess a parallel can be drawn to the implementation of the Lie Detector possibly inconveniencing players in order to catch cheaters. It might not be worth it to solve issues in a manner that would affect regular gameplay because of the outcry this would cause, so I have to agree that nerfing skills would do more harm than good. Thanks for the idea nonetheless
