Would it be possible to add this resolution to the game? Right now we play in 800x600 and it's so hard to view anything since the HUD almost covers your entire screen. After playing maple in 1280x720, I can say that it is sooo much better.
I highly doubt it would be possible with the current client, since it's very limited in what kind of edits you can make. I think they're working on a new custom client that could potentially expand resolutions though, but it's not a project expected to be finished any time soon. From what I've heard from various sources anyway.
There are servers with older and newer versions with a hi res client edit so I would assume it's possible with v83.
I think technically it is possible with the current client, though it's not just something you add it requires a lot of work to make it look good.
I actually checked and there's a different v83 sever that has a high res client edit. Time to jack their work ^^
Fun fact, when old servers increase the size of the client they tend to run into the problem that some backgrounds, especially from old content, don't scale to the new size, leaving black bars on the screens. While i do like the idea of a bigger screen, it opens up a lot of visual glitches and very unpredictable and hard to solve issues. Even if it doesn't require a new client, i doubt its very high in priority for all the crap that it might cause
There aren't any real "glitches" as far as i know. The only downside is that you end up seeing stuff that you probably shouldn't see, like empty space or places where backgrounds end. The end result is a far better game, with more space for windows to be open, such as chat, quest helper, inv, and party hp as well as being able to see more of the map you are playing on. I've played on another server that had it and i was very impressed. I definitely wish royals had it.
We have tinkered around with a higher resolution and it is somewhat easy to get working, however fixing the UI properly as well as fixing up maps which aren’t compatible (background images cut off etc) will take a bit of time. It is something we will likely be looking into in the future.
Honestly, even with those small glitches, I would still opt to play in this resolution. Having the option in the settings to toggle between resolutions would be great as well so people who are bothered with stuff like that can choose to play in the default 800x600. I for one would definitely play on 1280x720 even with the small misplaced things you mentioned
Of course, just depends on how bad things look. We wouldn’t want to release something that looks terrible. The higher resolution would not have a toggle in game as the client would need to be modified from the default 800x600, so there would need to be separate clients for the different resolutions. A toggle would require a custom client, or at the very least some sort of launcher that lets you choose a resolution before it then opens the appropriate client.
there's a server that hacked in a toggle into their settings menu, perhaps that might be an avenue to explore
