https://royals.ms/forum/threads/ban-appeal.192605/ Seeing this ban appeal makes me wonder if Sacking is an officially punishable offence now.
this is an insane ban everyday many dead ppl are in kerning city and those who used sacks in fact should be banned??????????? remove monster sacks please
Can we get answers from staffs on this issue? And also, I hope you are aware of the effect on sack price in market once decisions are made to ban sacking.
First off, I want to say that I think this incident has shown that the T&C needs to be clarified and what dictates harassment needs to be fleshed out. "this is an insane ban everyday many dead ppl are in kerning city and those who used sacks in fact should be banned??????????? remove monster sacks please " But I will also say I think the above poster highlighted a key difference between if sacking someone should be a ban able offense or not. If you are sacked in a city, you respawn right at the same location that you were at and you lose 1% of your exp. The Petri map where the sacking occurred is farther away. After the person was sacked they had to walk all the way back to the map or wherever they were going (we can't be certain) and they also loss experience. Quoting Hae from the discord server "It varies from 1%-10%. So yes, in a sense it is kind of random. 1. Depends on your LUK stats, the higher, the less exp you lose (if a warrior w/ base 4 LUK loses 10%, a thief loses ~3-5% by the same source, depends on how high the LUK stat is). 1.5. Depends on the source that kills you (i gotta test this). If it's a OHK like BF or cwk tower, probably 3-5% vs regular mobs." That had real world repercussions for the victim that they now have to make up(ie walk back to the map, make up the experience they just lost), and to me that makes it fall under: excessively disruptive to the individuals around you
If you want to afk safe in monster map, why not just go lounge???? You will never die there also no need to walk back anywhere.
I think for the time being, the *general* rule for banning sackers is about the same as people who get banned for making racially derogatory remarks (i.e. using the "N" word). Basically if you want to stay safe, keep it between your friends and people you know not to get offended by what you say/do. Under the TnC, it does define harassment in such a way that you can interpret the act of sacking as an act of harassment under certain conditions. So, if you feel like people are going to get mad at you for sacking them, chances are, you will probably face the hammer.
Wasnt the lounge invented to create a safe space for players? Why not use it? Still salty theres no fm button The rules are so inconsistent in this game. How many times have we seen people using sacks in kerning or ludi? One could argue that sacks are part of the gms nostalgia so if people can get banned for them then why are we allowed to use them? I understand targetting someone is definitely harassment but how is randomly using it even worthy of a ban? If that’s the case then the staff has a lot of players to ban. In a game where most players are hackers, bots or both, sacking randoms isnt the biggest concern and it’s also part of the gms experience (or is that excuse not valid anymore?)
It’s crazy how a staff member is ready to stay and wait for a players reaction about something not even bad like sacking meanwhile hackers roam free and other harassment concerns are dismissed (especially if youre friends with the staff) but thats what happens when you have a staff with bad priorities
If the guy stays banned, I think the credibility of Mapowner was just thrown off the roof. EDIT: If the ~mapowner has my name on it. I AM THE KING OF THIS PIECE OF LAND. I DO WHAT I LIKE YOU B**FJSJZU Jokes aside, I always thought having mapowner is powerful, that’s how people steal maps? :O If I’m not allowed to sack although the map has my name on it (despite whatever conversation we had), then what’s the point of map owner? Like I own the map, but I can’t shoo them away? HOW CAN I LIVE WITHOUT THIS IMMENSE POWER?
To people saying "go to lounge", a friend brought up a good point. If you have a mage and go to lounge, your buffs will get wiped, including magic guard. Upon exiting lounge, there is a good chance that you will be put in a dangerous spot, some times with no chance to magic guard in time if you are in a high level monster map. Otherwise if you don't have low hp yes, you can easily use lounge, which I assume most leeched characters can do. Just a small point I thought was interesting. My personal take is if you're so worried about exp loss, always carry charms. Any time you're in a monster map, be prepared to die. It is truly not that difficult or troublesome to protect your character.
So, it is actually better to kill someone at town and it's ok to do than in a map like pietris because they will loose 1% vs 10%? If so, 9% loss exp is the line you can't cross if you don't wanna be banned or what? Is walking the issue? Because if you use it at genesys ch1 you can kill 10+ characters so that's around 10% exp talking about 1% each, if nobody kills the mobs they won't be able to get inside event maps/pqs/anything possibly dying over and over. So what's the real difference? Can we use sacks or not? If not then just remove the sacks from the game or state it.
Or the real issue is when they are high level? So can I go around and kill as many noobs as I want because they will get that exp back real quick but if I kill a lvl 130 then it is not? Or what is the max level a player can be to don't consider it as harrassment? Then just ban everybody that had kill a random guy with a sack, we got a lot of "evidence" here on forums if sacking is actually a real issue and ban worthy in this server.
The overall issue transcends your ban, as there is still a GM stating they would ban for in-town sacking while others probably wouldn't. It would be nice if there could be an official stance given by the Staff.
Im glad they retracted/reverted your ban. Goes to show that GMs are sensible and flexible enough to look into rules when they are rigid or absurd for the situation at hand.
I don't know many popular maps (if any) that don't have a spawnpoint on a safe place. when you return from lounge, you will always spawn in one of these spots if you went to lounge from that same safe area. (The only map that comes to mind that had a dangerous respawn point on a high lvl map is in Road of regret, but over there, there are safe maps left and right) a bigger concern would be losing long buffs like echo, or long potions. some just need to afk for a few minutes and return, without losing their buffs. But if you ask me, someone that makes use of long potions and echo is probably high lvled, and is in less of a risk of dying to sacks if he goes afk for a few mins.
That is also quite right. Offensive language and mass defames are bannable ! so do not do anything that breaks ToS.
Dying is part of this game, you lose more exp in monsters maps cause you need to be more alert there, if you choose to afk - you might die. People here has to live with it. And also mapleroyals doesnt want to be leechstory, so the least buyers can do when they buy leech is to log off after or buy lucky charms. Its not the person who used the sack’s fault they chose to not be alerted in a dangerous map.
The ban that is being discussed here has since been reverted. It was decided that it did not fall under harassment or objectionable behaviour; as the user did not target the same player multiple times, and did not target multiple players in the same session - such as surfing through Ulu channels and sacking multiple leechers. Although Monster Sack abuse is not explicitly outlined in the Terms and Conditions, this is the precedence that has been set in the past for bans of this nature. We plan to explain the rules surrounding Monster Sack usage within the terms and conditions so that it is clearer for our players. Sorry for any confusion.
