If you need help with maintaining the Library I'm sure the community would like to help (me included).
Just adding my post so it won't get lost: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/maple-royals-library-add-skill-description-monster-section.161676/
Idk if any of you noticed, but last week, Hidden Street, the site almost all of the players in mapleroyals have used at least once, got a bit fucked. Most of the UI of the site got broken, and navigating the site became pretty hard to impossible. And I started thinking that maybe one day that site will disappear without a trace. Since then the site was fixed, but in that time I also thought to myself: "Maybe it is time to revive the library?" For those who don't know, the library is basically an information guide like hidden street, that mapleroyals made to themselves: https://royals.ms/library/ But sadly, it didn't see any update to its content since before the ninja castle update. Anybody remember when that update was? [if you do, you are a royal boomer, congratz] The library was supposed to update automatically by drawing information from the server about all the mobs and items, but it seems like it didn't quite work as intended, as it never updated itself afaik, and some information got messed up. Now that many of the BIG ELEPHANTS in the server have been taken care of: High res client, GFX issues, Control panel, and many more crucial issues. I think it's the right time to bring back up the conversation on if its worth working on the library again. I'm really hoping that one day the library would include all the content that's been missing from it, and that it would be easier to follow the changes to the drops and stats of mobs which are different than the original GMS version. [looking for the specific update that contains the change isn't as easy anymore now that there are so many updates to the server]. It would also be cool to have a tab for skills, so that it will be easier to know what skills got changed in the royals version. I'd also like to suggest outsourcing some of the work of making the library to the community! For stuff you can't pull easily from the code, or stuff that come out all wrong, you can share that workload with us I'm sure I won't be the only one willing to give you guys a hand when it comes to collecting information, and writing the details, getting a picture of the item, etc etc. [btw I know matt made a feedback thread about this, but it was made ages ago, and was just necroed. I wanted to start a fresh conversation about it instead]
Lol, no doubt! Autoban should be top priority! But if there's time for another project after it, or with it, i'd love to see an updated library ;3
Completely agree, this would be such a huge QoL improvement, specially since hidden-street is inaccurate and might dissapear
I'm not a developer/programmer, so I may not completely understand but I think it might be too much of a monumental task trying to code a library that processes data from inside the game to show relevant information. It's just a waste of time. Just have the library manually updated and overtime it'll be completed. How do we know this can work? Hiddenstreet is the biggest example. From my understanding, the Matt/Admins/GMs are busy focusing on priorities for the server and have their hands full. As the OP said, just outsource help from the community to complete the library along with minor assistance from the GMs/Admins on information that can't/is difficult to be obtained. I'm not sure why there's hesitation from the Staff to do just that. If the Staff had relied on the community over 5 years ago to assist with the Library, the project would have been completed by now if not earlier and people would have a more accurate understanding of the server changes/balance. Is it possible to get a response instead of cold lurking?
To be honest, I like the layout of hidden street more than our library. I really hoped the devs would revive the site and put in all the pre bb updates, but 10 years later its not happening so i guess its never going to happen. Since we have a library, I really want to see accurate information there! On the contrary, personally (you guys might think otherwise), I would prefer the library updated first before any autoban is implemented. I read somewhere in this forum, someone actually volunteered to help update the library.
The library should be relatively easy to update, we've just got some more important stuff going on at the moment but we are plenty aware of how dated it currently is. Just of those cases of having not gotten around to it yet.
If it's a case of "easy, just do it" is there a reason you're not outsourcing some of the work to the community? I'm sure plenty of people are willing to pitch in to help as a nice up-to-date library is in everyone's interest
The library function was essential to when I first started out and needed to find out who dropped what so I can go farm it to get said item. With all that being said, PLEASE update the library. I like the ideas thrown around here about outsourcing it to the community. It would be fun to add to the value of the game like with the typo thread where all kinds of community members come together to make the game a better place. 100% +1 to this idea!
did the monsters from the library stop working? I remember I could check monsters or at least go to the monster info from the items to see what each one drop. but now I get No results found. no matter what I do. any info about why and when i will be up again?
I really like the resource, but I keep wishing that the items showed if they came from a Gacha. The biggest thing for me is the Ele Wands, I keep having to go through different forum posts to see where they are found.
@LightningPen https://royals.ms/forum/threads/lets-play-gachapon.110983/ Maybe this can help you out.
Thanks for that. This link is the one I usually use when trying to see where to gacha. Nevertheless, it doesnt address my issue. That list lets you go from gacha -> loot, I need to go through every gacha to find the loot I want. The feature I was mentioning lets you go from loot -> gacha, If i know the loot I want, I only need to check one location. That post is still great and super useful though
