Event An Idea for GM events: Luck-based Elimination Event

    Hi~
    First of all, big thanks to GMs who make this game and GM events possible :3

    I love GM events. They tend to get chaotic, but it is a part of the fun.
    As much as I love them, when some people complain about some events being overcrowded/too difficult/cannot-see-anything, I understand them.

    So, I decided to put my two cents here :admindab:
    As I believe that many of you have some nice ideas, it's 100% OK for me if you use this thread as a brainstorming place.

    Luck-based Elimination Event

    Rule: In each map, each player chooses a portal from many portals.
    The right ones are few or there is only one. If you choose the wrong one, you are out. bye bye sayonara.
    If you choose the right one, you go to the next map, and it goes on and on.

    This is all I have for now :xD:
    Obviously, it needs a lot of spice up to be fun, but it could eliminate the frustration felt by some for "unplayable" action-based events.
    (to avoid teaming, you can add time-limit for each map)


    So, what do you think?
    Is it playable? Even possible? What would you add?
    I have no idea.

    That's basically what Ola-ola is, from your ideas, minus the elimination part, but a Hardcore version of Ola-ola sounds interesting to me, at least.

    Instead of wrong portal that is either a fake or teleports you to the start of the map, wrong portal would kick you out for good, making it both Luck and Trust based event.

    But then again, that's basically what Ola-ola is... :'(

    Would definitely want to see more original GM events like X and O Quiz and Find the Jewel too, by the way.

    Does this kind of event already exist?
    What I had in mind was the "wrong portal would kick you out for good" type of event.

    Anyway, I would be happy if we could have more "less action-centric" events :love:

    This is entirely my goal for the future of GM Events.
    Some people have known for awhile now, but I should probably make it more known where most of my time was being dedicated, as others have kindly pointed out my absence on the Forum. ^_^'
    I work on backend stuff mostly, one of those backend tasks involves creating maps and Events. I have a Google Document full of GM Event and ideas that stray from the stereotypical 'JQ Event' that MapleStory essentially only has. The newer Events that have been added in during this Patch are 99% JQs, minus Sea Gorge. However, those maps are also nostalgic and have been in the game for almost two decades but given the chaotic element of having everyone participate at the same time as opposed to just you doing it by yourself, it does tend to be a bit infuriating.
    I'm not a fan of JQs either, which is why I designed Sea Gorge (and I have plenty more ideas that don't involve jumping!) My very first original idea was in fact, Egg PQ during the Easter Event! :) I wanted to do something new and fun, something not too challenging, but also rewarding the active participants. From there, I delved into designing and drafting up custom GM Event maps. The only problem is creating these maps do take a lot of time, and trial and error to make sure they are even possible to complete.

    I really enjoy the elimination aspect you've mentioned! (ex: Sea Gorge... lol it was originally intended to be a '1 shot you're out' kind of thing, but I was convinced to add 3 lives (later changed to 5) based on the level of difficulty.) I have a couple ideas in mind already for something similar to that in my Google Document! ;) Thank you so much for enjoying these Events! I promise more will come in the future. :D

    I want to thank @Manny for getting the original MapleStory JQs ready and spending time making sure they were perfect too! I'm so glad they were added in as I was personally getting tired of hosting the same 2-3 things over and over again! :love:

    This sounds like Russian Roulette, but worse imo. (Is that still around? I've been on a break)

    With the portals, you will not see who gets eliminated. But in RR, you see which platform is the next sacrifice to appease Manny. And all the "RIPs" etc thrown around when he finally appears is just *chef's kiss*

    If we're talking about luck based events, and also using some nostalgic map, why not have something similar to Zakum Prequest Stage 1? You can maybe split people into teams and have multiple rounds with elimination in each round until you have 1 winner.

    Can split people into team of 4s and put 3 mins on the timer. Go around into the maps and try to find a hidden key to give you access to the next stage by hitting the rocks/chests. There's a chance that it's a trap rock/chest that teleports you back to the beginning. Everyone walks at 100 speed pace, so no classes have an advantage.

    Maybe 2nd stage, need each team member to find each part of an etc like a map. Once each member collects a piece each, give to party leader, and then it leads you to the portal to stage 3. Maybe put 5 mins on timer for people to complete this round.

    And then a 3rd stage, which I haven't though out. And 1st team to complete this 3rd stage is the overall winners and can earn a special prize each. Maybe other teams who made 3rd stage can get a random consolation prize for making it that far?

    Just some random food for thought. Not sure how feasible this would all be. But it's all luck/random based, and no classes have any inherent advantages over another class. Would maybe be 20 mins total for all 3 events? Yes, a bit long, but RR can be longer at times, and maybe make the prizes worth it.

    Never a fan of too much team stuff cuz there's always people that afk or DCs, or even worse... "What do I do here, can someone guide me?"

    Only thing I would add is to lock out all chats except party, that way just in the case of someone you know happens to be on another team, there's no cheating

    one of the issues with this sort of event,is that people could share information about which portal is the correct one.
    And even blocking smegas and chat won't help when you can do that from discord or forums shoutbox.
    A solution to that would be to make many small instance maps, and all the contestants will be randomly spread between them, and once you get the right portal, you get warped to a random map on the next tier. the maps would have idential names and look so you won't be able to tell them apart. that'll make information sharing near impossible.

    the second issue is that in such a system, you can't choose a winner, per say. i could literally tail someone, and if he keeps getting it right, ill always be with him, and if he fails, we fail together. The solution to that could be a tiered reward list. every time you clear 1 map, your reward pool becomes better, until you reach the final map that has the best random reward pool.

    i would definitely be happy to see such an event if it will work like that :)
