I would be in full support of this idea as a player and GM. I don't think there could be any negative impacts to implementing this. Maybe even one step further, as @resum brought up and make perfected weapons undroppable. As for the 'drop game' just put items in a store for 1 meso. Instead of who hits shift fastest it's who clicks fastest. Same exact concept, odds, and outcome.
Personally I'd disagree with the sentiment of imposing an alternative to a "drop game" and divert my attention towards countering RWT as this is what the thread is about really. A drop game is really something like a "weird flex but ok", I don't see it as a big issue since if a genuine drop game were to be held, it can be played utilizing substitute items.
Here's another suggestion for drop game: 1. Sell the attack gear 2. Buy literally anything else of value with that money 3. Play drop game with THAT
