Anniversary Maple Tree Event needs a buff
    dead leaf.png

Now that the event has been ongoing for more than two weeks, I think that i've seen the droprates and rewards of the tree event enough to give my opinion on its reward pool and rates... It's kinda shit.
    ok, let me elaborate.

    The event's current state:

To participate in the event, you simply need 200 sunshines to enter the map, and wait for the tree to pop. 200 sunshines are not that hard to come by, if you try hard, you can farm more sunshines than you'll need for a single day of joining the famous goldenleaf runs.
You can see in this thread the reward pool of the event. In a nutshell, it's pyrope weapons, some very uninspiring 10%/60% scrolls, one cute duck, coin sword, baba blue, and a lot of garbage.

In the peak of the maple tree event, it wouldn't have been odd to see a 10+ runs done after the cake event in 16:00 ST, but over the course of these two weeks, there was a clear decline in players participating in the event.
As someone who played on the event last year, i recognize this pattern. People started losing interest in this event again.
This event has many balancing issues that ultimately lead many to think that doing the event isn't worth their time.
Problem is, this event requires the majority of the server's population in order to tackle it and reap its rewards, meaning, that if interest drops, less people bother entering the tree and donating, which means less runs are done, which leads to doing the runs feel less rewarding, which drops the interest even more.
But adding good and tradeable drops to the drop pool can cause the event to be overused and could potentially oversaturate those items in the market.
Hitting the perfect balance on this event is a tough job without a doubt, so I'm not criticizing the admins for making the event the way it is. But I do believe that there is room to improve the reward, to at least make participating feel more rewarding.

    Possible solutions:
    1. The pyrope droprates needs a buff. This one is pretty straight forward, these weapons are only available through the tree event (on the balloon event they are too rare to even bother taking them into account), and the only other way to gain them is buying them for 10 coins. But the ones we can buy are only avarage stated, meaning, the playerbase can only realistically farm pyrope weapons from the tree.
There are 16 pyrope weapons, but i can say that only about half of the pyrope weapons have any proper use, and only a handful of them have actual value, and thats only when they have a good statline. Combining this with the rare droprate makes this reward feel very disappointing.
    2. maybe add some more 10% and 60% scrolls that are currently missing from the droplist to dilute some of the really trashy scrolls in the pool. Or simply filter some scrolls out. Every event needs some fodder rewards, but this event has waaaay to much fodder.
    3. Add some more maple themed items into the mix: mage/warrior/thief maple shields, All the untradeable maple hats, the maple capes, the lvl 20 maple pendant, maple pops, and maybe the lvl 64 maple weapons? Have the rewards focus more on those maple themed items than on scrolls. This will retain the themes of the event, while also generate interest with getting some stuff with the godly system, i think almost none of the items above is dangerous if it gets godly stats. These items can replace some of the chances to get the fodder items like defense scrolls or bad potions.
    4. An extention of the suggestion above, but for some more powerful items, this suggestion can be taken with a grain of salt as it will require a lot of consideration if it's a good idea or not. Very rare chance at getting the following items with random stat rolls: The pyrope pendants and maple bandanas. And if we are really risky, super rare chance at a scarf.
While i think having the pyrope pendants and bandanas as a reward very harmless, I still think they should be considered with some caution. As for the scarf, it has the potential to rival a godly MoN if you have some serious dumb luck, both in getting godly stats, and having a good CS. Not likey, but possible, even more so if those buffs would generate increase interest in the event again. This suggestion naturally might spark the most amount of participation, but we need to keep a balancing act, and not make the tree the main event, especially when it can theoretically be done at any given time if the crowd pushes to pop the tree.
    5. Some chance at getting a small amount of candles, lets say 10, 25, and 50 as possible rewards in the pool. This can both tackle the issue some people have with candle drop, and would further increase engagement in the event. Let the big candle rewards stay cake exclusive.
    6. Weigh the odds of different rewards to better suit their general value, cause who knows, maybe just playing with the odds alone could make the runs feel more rewarding.
    7. Maybe consider adding more untradeable chairs with a very rare chance of appearing?
I'm not saying all of these suggestions should be added, even if one or two of these will get implimented in one way or another, it will make runs feel slightly less frustrating or not that big of a time waster.
There are still 3 weeks left of the event, more than half, so I think its still worth looking into making a change before the tree event gets completely discarded.

I'm interested in hearing what you guys think about this specific event, be it the rewards, or the actual "gameplay" of the event.
Also, I added a poll to see if you guys are satisfied with the current rewards gained through the runs, or if you want to see a change (doesn't have to be a change included in the ones i have suggested, feel free to suggest more in the comments)

I agree with this. When a cake boss spawns followed by the maple tree sessions, it could take 30 -45 minutes and all i have to show for it an event top wear def scroll. After this happens 3 times in a row, you really feel like this is a waste of time.

If i had to take a guess, i have probably sunk around 6 hours total into the events and the best thing ive gotten is an event claw scroll which doesn't even sell for that much and im struggling to sell it. I could have just grinded at ulu without selling leech and my time would have been better spent.

I'm not expecting to be given the best items imaginable for the event, but after getting 3 overall for def 100% event scrolls, you kind of lose your desire to keep joining.

Remove shit scrolls, add more chairs, add anniversary exclusive NX sets unique to the year. Copy and paste previous years' content while adding 1 or 2 different item is just crappy design.

First of all, congratulations, THIS IS A THREAD ABOUT MODIFY SOMETHING, u made the tree picture? , amazing.
2nd.- i support your ideas, like them, just want to add, despite i dont like to admit it, i support the "if it work, dont fix it" idea, but it seems to me , sometimes its exagerated, how they watch and care the "status quo" of the market, game, and characters, i truly believe that the untradeable items dont affect the market that much, even if that items are better than the actually main ones( for example, MONs , many ppl tought "when those things come out say goodbye to htp buyers" and even being nerfed a good MON is better than an htp(except for mages),that killed the htp interest? NOT AT ALL, maybe and just maybe, reduce it a little bit, but nothing else, why? because u need a GODLY one, wich is pretty rare and most important they are UNTRADEABLE)
Why i say all this?, because i would like to suggest to wipe a little bit the crappy items(all DEF SCROLLS)keep the att gloves, and main stats scrolls(wich is still crap, but every eevent has to have crap prices anyway, and at least they are not COMPLETELY USELESS) and add very nice items, but untradeable, who doesnt affect the market. My list would see like this

1.-Normal drop: gloves for att 10% and 60% and main stats scrolls( for helm, overall, shoes, and gloves)This would be the crappy prices.
2.-Rare drops : Maple theme prices. Pyrope weapons, maple helms, shields, and lvl 64 maple weapons aswell(i really liked ur idea)
3.-Very rare drops: Chairs(adding more untradeable ones), maple pendants, candles, and some nx maybe?
4.- extremely rare drops: maple scarf-maple earrings(this 2 with godly system, can totally raise up the interest of the ppl in this event, even after getting 20 crappy scrolls i would still go there :) ), and GELTS a bunch of those maybe package of 1-2 gelts in rare drops 3-5 in very rare and 6-8 in extremely rare. Believe me add gelts as price would not kill the apple market, and its a nice price to get very usefull.

Believe it or not, but I think that intoducing random stated earrings is more game breaking than scarf being able to random roll. While i'm all for adding the rest of the items mentioned above, I'm unsure if letting the earrings in as a drop is a good call considering they are the best in slot earring already for many classes.

P.S yes i made it in photoshop for fun :)

Mori, give them some credit, they made an entirely costume made pq. (unless it was in gms, i personally don't remember that pq)
Either way, they added the pq, and remade the jumpquest, as i remember it having a different layout. This is not a copy-paste event.
But it seems like they haven't taken the outcome of last year's inactivity at the tree event to heart, because they left it almost the same, with what looks like a slightly lessened chance at pyrope, and added community made chair as a reward.
Last year i remember tree poping like 2-3 times a day at best, and at random times, when the 60% shout came, a lot of people hoarded the map and popped the tree. Then golden leaf came, and generated interest, then the interest dropped and sunshines were as cheap as dirt and no one really spent much time doing the tree event. The only spike in use of the sunshines were at the last day where the tree popped every 3 minutes for hours before the server closed lol.

That's... not what this thread is about, lol. I'm just sticking to the point of your thread; the maple tree event. My previous comment doesn't reflect the entirety of the maple anniversary but solely on the maple tree event only.

this could be brought to debate, maybe ure right, idk controlling the godly system to make it 4stats top? but debating this is not the point anyway.i would be happy if any of ur ideas were implemented, waht about the gelt idea?, maybe getting 6-8 in a single maple leaf is too much, but between 2-3?

I do agree that the reward list can be tweaked by either adding in untradable items and/or revisiting the rate of which scrolls are received, but it should be done starting from next year's Anniversary Event.

I find the thought of modifying the rewards now being slightly partial towards those who are able to participate during the remaining period of the Anniversary Event, and that players who are unable to participate in the coming weeks would be severely left out. Its also quite unreasonable to modify the rewards on the basis of a player's unfavorable/unprofitable outcomes that resulted in this particular event being increasingly unpopular, especially noting that changing prices may have played a part in the decision that the players made on whether to participate or not (E.g. the declining prices of the Ducky Chair).

If such changes were to be implemented, especially at this point in time, much considerations (past, present and future) would have to be carefully examined, E.g.:
    - Impact on current/future economy
    - Amount of players left out from the proposed gain in benefits
    - Expected improvements in participation outcome and player's satisfaction
    - Manpower needed to implement the changes and its feasibility
    - Risk of encountering technical issues during a game update (if needed)
    - Supply/Demand of sunshines
    - Risk of increased illegal activities

On the other hand, the approach of this feedback should be directed towards improving the participation rate of Maple Tree Hill throughout the whole day and we should also exclude the concept of having increased runs during 16:00 as Staff should be taking an impartial stand, having the assumption that said runs do not actually take place frequently under normal circumstances. Therefore, instead of modifying the rewards, why not modify another aspect of the event. Such approach includes:

    - Reducing the entrance fee from 200 to 150
    - Reducing the required no. of sunshines to 'pop' the tree from 100k to 60k
    - Adding in a feature that pairs tree growth with cakes killed (grow by 3% per cake killed)
    - Reducing / removing 3min timer

Another thing to also take note is that Maple Hill is only one of the anniversary events and should not take up a substantial amount of gameplay time as it can indirectly affect other aspects of the game.

Edit: Judging by the amount of hesitations shown when increasing the candle drop rate,
I would highly doubt that there will be any changes to this year's Maple Hill Event.

I agree with most of your points, except the part of "certain players might feel left out", as i can point you to a few cases where a part of the event got nerfed midway, which caused people that joined later to feel "left out", yet was not considered a legit disadvantage to the nerf. And in christmas, there's the daily gift event that only applies to the later half of the event. I don't see anything "unfair" in changing things midway as long as there's enough time for a good population of the server to enjoy it.

Also, i wouldn't say the decline is purely ecconomical. There's a thing called game feel, that says if a certain gameplay loop feels rewarding or not to the player, with emphasis on the word "feel".
The big issue with this event is the combination of a lot of time wasted doing nothing but camping gaga, and that there's nothing big to hope for.
No one really knows the odds of gaining any specific item in cake, they just know that there's some chance at getting something valueable like GFA, wand event, or treasure map (which, in it of itself is a game of chance). Its not that every player can tell if his time in cake is efficient, they just dream to get the rare items.
But in the tree event, there's not a lot of things that spark the imagination, once you get the ducky, you are left with event that at best can give you a godly pyrope weapon, but realistically it never will.

Yea, getting gelts and pies can be a nice addition to the reward pool, but due to the nature of how many runs can be done in a single sitting, I'd argue that even 1-2 pots as a reward is more than enough

P.S as far as i know, there's no way to limit the godly system, it works uniformly across all items in the game
