Hello everyone. This thread is based off my own opinion, but I asked around before deciding to open a discussion about it, and a poll will also be useful to see who's interested. This is based off my experience and nostalgia, from before medals were introduced to the game. So if something seems opinion based and not fact based, it probably is. Medals, in my opinion, with a large number of people(gm events, especially jq ones, and event boss fights for example), look awful. The screen has these bright colors jumping and moving, and I really dislike it. What I would like to propose, although I am not sure if it is even possible, like all transparent items, to be able to hide the medal. Now of course some legendary collectors might disagree, but that's why I want it to be the person's choice whether to hide it or not. My idea of it will be just a medal hider/transparent item that you purchase in the cash shop. I would love for you to voice your opinion in the replies, or just take a second to vote. Also, a GM reply can basically close this thread, If this is impossible. I have yet to ask around any of the staff, so if this is impossible to do, feel free to close the thread. Pros: Screen looks cleaner, simpler and gm jq events or for that matter any mass player events would be easier for the participant. Cons: People that worked hard on their medals might get a bit frustrated if at some point a player asks them to hide it because it annoys them.
if we have an option to hide other players, then u'll see "oh i hid other players so i didnt notice them trying to grab my attention while i was definitely not botting even tho it looks like i am unban pls" in ban appeals
Totally agree, they are too flashy. There should be an option for you to hide your own medal and another to hide others medals.
Why not just not use one? I dislike medals enough that I will never equip one. I wish there was a better option, but I hate the clutter more than I appreciate the stats (which aren't that great, anyway). As long as medals aren't super powerful there's really no reason why you need to equip one.
Mages really appreciate the extra hp from medals. Quest specialist is +5 all, pretty worth to equip if you ask me. And legendary collector and lvl 200 medals gives you 3 weapon att, this is huge. So no, medal's stats are actually very segnificant. There are a lot of players that value stats over looks. I know many that didnt want to wear glasses on their chara, but did anyways because of a good eye accessory they own. Same goes for medals. Having the option to both have nice stats, and not look hideous is always a + on my book
Basically what LichWiz said, but I will add a bit of my own. When you open a new char it's always nice to get 'The one who's touched the sky" for +5 speed and jump, but I always find myself unequipping it around lvl 40-50 or so due to how ugly it looks(The medal name is really long).
Damn 3 attack, yeah that is a big deal. I thought the best one was 5 all stats. I might actually have to equip that one when I get it. I think the easiest solution might just be to have an NPC that sells you an invisible medal. Simply, he asks you what stats you want (from the medals available to you) and he provides you with an invisible medal with those stats on it. That wouldn't require any extra coding or messing around with cash shop. You could even have the NPC automatically remove any that have superior versions (to shorten the list of available medal stats).
I want to agree with it, but I feel like hackers might be able to exploit it easily. Some gms wear stuff from later times(Kai had a cool looking timeless axe or something), and I am sure there are some superior medals hiding in the code. If hackers get access to that and then use medal hider npc they can easily get away with it. Maybe I am giving too much credit to hackers but that's something I thought about after reading your idea.
Well, the medals don't have slots. The worst that hacker could do is somehow trick the game into giving them a medal they didn't unlock. Which honestly wouldn't provide much benefit at all (to a hacker) or even be remotely worth their time. They wouldn't have access to any medals that weren't coded into the NPC. And any of the ones that are, they could simply obtain by hacking anyway. Perhaps the game can check if the player already has the medal in their inventory or not before allowing them to get the invisible variant (as an extra security measure). Regardless, I don't think it's possible, since if it were people would technically be able to hack other server-sided things as well (such as unlocking RP hair/face without donating).
Hello, could we please have a staff answering the question whether this is even possible to do or not?
It's very easy to do. I doubt they will though as it's not a pressing issue. I would really like to see a position for this kind of work though because I think the game could use a lot of minor improvements and everyone seems to be too busy to add things like this to the game.
I'd guess that making the medals themsleves would be easy, just a new item id, of a medal with equal stats, but the medal picture would be a transparent square, or a pixel, which would render it invisible. It will require writing descriptions for them all, and potentially making inventory icons for them as well (or just reuse the same icons to save time). Using the medal giver NPC's code of checking what medal the player owns, then giving a list of their matching transparent part shouldn't be impossible either. But yea, as @Kaeru said, visual updates are low on the priority list, some minor visual updates come from time to time (SB class coloring comes to mind), but these days there are more pressing issues that the devs need to deal with P.S do you guys remember that in the past SBs didn't stack? Disgusting
that would be amazing if an option to hide medals was implemented, the character looks better and there is less visual obstruction
Bump. Can we talk about this option? It's been years since it was last discussed. I'd love a ''Transparent Medal'' NX item.
