Hi, I just wanted to ask about maplestory ~2006-2007(?). I played on mapleSEA then and I wanted to ask did Maple Island change alot? I have memories of killing Orbis jr. sentinel and having an NPC there but I remember the portal being top right and you had to jump on stones/small platform(?) to reach it. I always wondered did Maple Island change or do I just have a bad memory.

 

Yes there's a portal in the middle of the Orbis tower (10th floor) and it's still there in MapleRoyals. You enter the portal and find NPC, Huckle for the Orbis tower scroll quest.

 

As a MSEA player myself, i believe what @MrMarist mean was the beginning of MSEA Maple Island are different compared with Maple Royals right now.

It's because Maple Royals are based on GMS, and new characters will start from training camp tutorial. Instead of that, MSEA is based on KMS and both of them do not have training camp.

This is actually the first map MSEA player would see when logging new character.


And the next map is attack tutorial map. There is some Jr. Sentinel in here. We spawn from bottom right and hunt them all along, while also jumping across those small platform until top right, and talk to NPC to complete the quest.

Actually, as you remember, in the early versions of MapleStory, maple-island maps were different from those in the version of MapleRoyals.
Later Nexon reduced the number and size of Maple-island maps and that's what you see in Royals.

Furthermore, when MapleStory was just released in Korea and Japan, there was no Orbis yet, but only Maple-island and Victoria island, so Jr. sentinel was not even existed yet. Therfore, instead of the tutorial Jr. sentinels in your memories, there were just snails.

Besides, as Rinn has already explained, GMS in the version of Royals had different design of tutorial maps (i.e. the camping maps), so that's what you see in Royals.

When Pirates first came in KMS they had different names
Buccs were called: Infighter (2nd job)- Buccaneer (3rd) and Viper (4th)
Sairs were called: Gunslinger (2nd)- Valkyrie (3rd) and Captain (4th)

lol I think some of these names sound better than the current names

 

Yea, right haha, and still the names haven't changed in KMS.

Besides, when the name "Corsair" of GMS became known among some KMS players, there was a rumor that "Corsair" is the leaked 6th new class about to be released

because they didn't know it was just another name of the class "Captain" in KMS.

Just stumbled upon this and read the whole thread. Had a pretty good laugh with balrog at maple island Ty for the digging!

No one mentioned how the eyes of the female character don't exist in the game, and the same goes for the armour worn by the second character to the right (I think). Perhaps they went to the cutting board at some point. (Also, the bowman is wearing a magician's hat and overalls. Silly Wizet.)

 

Maple Island has changed a lot since I played both GMS and EMS. I quit GMS before EMS was released and quit EMS quite a long time before Fangblade got level 200, as I remember never knowing about either 4rth job or Leafre.

I have no idea what happened in between the time I have played GMS/EMS and joined Royals to Maple Island.
There was no pig map and the maps between both Amherst and Southperry were very different. Also the OG Islander map, Dangerous Forest had a very different lay-out than it does in Royals. as I remember it now, Tomato Fields and Split Road are the only maps that are the same as it was when I was playing my Islanders years ago.

I recall hearing about a very high level Camper in MSea. Allthough, I do not have any memory of the zone before Maple Island, I might have played before as well as after it was implimented.
I am not entirely sure about the exact release date of beginner skills but I am very sure they were not in GMS when I was playing it. I do remember that shortly after their release 3-snails did not check for accuracy and Basilmarket had screenshots of level 8 mages killing end-game content Grim Phantom Watches. Beginner skills were in EMS, allthough the only Island Weapons beside Fruit Knive were the Valentine Roses so we could never really use 3-snails anyway.
