Greetings Royallers, Requesting your feedback! With update 70 we released a new experimental client and setup, which changed the file format for the game's assets, and the way in which the client reads them. We did this in an attempt to alleviate some of the issues players have historically been experiencing during bossruns, such as graphical glitches and subsequent crashes. Our question to you is: How are you experiencing the game after this update, using the new files? Has it improved your bossing experience? Do you experience fewer graphical glitches and crashes? Have any other, new issues, appeared? Let us know in the comments below! Note: The purpose of the thread is not to serve as a direct-democracy vote on what should be done for the future, but rather to gauge the community's feelings on the topic, and to hopefully collectively learn something. The Staff reserves the right to design and develop the game in whatever way it ultimately deems most beneficial. With that being said, we do take your input into careful consideration, and are always very interested in hearing about your experiences. And bear in mind that any changes made to the game are subject to change, and can in most cases be reverted, including this! Thank you for your help. Happy Mapling! - The MapleRoyals Staff
Hi Joong, along with the bucc d/c at Zak, I also recently d/ced on my paladin. This time, the whole client crashed with no message popping up. This happened right at spawn while I was hitting the 8th arm. I was able to attack a couple of times before I started to lag and then eventually d/ced.
How does this compare to your boss runs before the client change? Do you notice any patterns as to what seems to cause you to d/c?
I used to never d/c at Zak however that was my first time ever running on a paladin. I'm also quite sure it has to do something inside the boss as my other client was still running when I crashed. Some other info I can provide was that I was windowed with the gfx setting at its lowest. I ran again with my client being full screen and gfx setting at the highest with no other clients open and I didn't d/c. Whether the changes helped me, not too sure. My d/c with my bucc however has occurred before the patch I believe which Joong has inquired before. I've heard speculations that it maybe due to demolition going outside the map for some reason when attacking Zak causing the d/c but I'm not 100% sure.
One thing i noticed is that if i for example have 2 clients ( window mode ) open and go Krexel both clients screen freeze and i have to alt enter on either to have the active one in fullscreen to unfreeze the picture. However shortly after that, maybe 1-2 minutes later, the picture freezes again and i have to alt+enter again to unfreeze it, basically rinse and repeat throughout the whole boss run. That does not happen when i boss with only 1 client. I checked Windows for any updates and updated the graphics card drivers to the latest too, but the problem still persists. Edit: It does happen with 1 client too, happened at the valentines boss just now.
I constantly feel lag, my client freezes and I get disconnected when selling leech or farming, especially when looting and drops are on the ground. This still occur after this update. It is even worse when I’m streaming on Twitch. Hence, I don’t stream these days due to this very reason
And to be clear you experienced this before update 70, too? Is it connection related? Are you running multiple clients?
Yes, I experienced this before update 70. It is definitely not connection related nor it is related to the performance of my computer. When single-client selling leech in skele and multi-client farming in Ulu 1, both scenarios suffer severe freeze/lag. When multi-client farming, only the looter client freezes. The other 4 mages client is very fine.
Spoiler: Slightly off topic pet loot lag talk From my observations and talking to other people, loot seems to occur when you have multiple pets with pet looting equips. Using 2 pets remedies it a bit, but I think having one pet with wing boots and binoculars (opposed to both pets having it on) really lessens the lag one experiences when there's too much loot on the floor. I believe it has something to do with those items being equipped that causes the lag. Why? I can have two clients up where I'm leeching myself on one and when I have no pet equips on my leeching client, there's no lag there but there is some on my Bishop (who is looting). The lag that comes from too much loot has been a consistent thing for awhile. Hopefully this helps a bit! I don't know if it's just me but with recent events (both hosted and seasonal events) I've lagged a lot surprisingly. I make sure to have one client up for those. GM hosted events are probably a given, but when Slime / the event boss spawns and channels get more people during it, it does get laggy and sometimes to the point where I can't hit the boss enough and don't get participation credit because of that. I think I've DCed from a gm hosted event once or twice recently, but from my understanding I believe that's an issue that's been addressed (I do just want to share though, in case it might not of been) & it's kind of important imo because I don't really experience DC all that much. edit: 3/2/2021: i wanna mostly retract above statement because at the time, i didn't realize that my laptop was going downhill in its performance, it kinda just happened in getting p bad all of a sudden so i don't think everything above is a fair assessment. i can't really compare the now vs then, but i will say with a better pc (and a desktop) capable of running more, i don't really lag or dc from stuff (so far)!
i dc very often. my client window crashes/stops responding. happened many times at apq boss and other times when i sit still. never happened before. this is 800x600 download. i am scared to pq or buy service.
After update 70 I've noticed that often when I change channel my client window turns black and I have to manually shut it down and restart it...
I have very rarely, if at all, dc'd in Zak before update 70 (I couldn't recall any specific instances). I would estimate 70-100 runs in total on various chars (BM, NL, bishop, bucc, hero, in order of frequency), mostly single client but occasionally duo or trio client. I dc'd 1 out of 2 runs since the update. First run was trio client BM NL bishop and went great without lag, but 2nd run was single client on BM and dc'd around the time the 8th arm was killed. Obviously small sample size, but definitely keeping an eye on it.
Thank you to everyone who commented thus far. I am curious if people interpret the thread as asking for input only on new issues that have appeared, or alternatively if a thread like this invites mostly people who have negative experiences with the change in question. If so, that is fine, but perhaps not ideal. Of course we wish to hear about such issues too, and we wouldn't want to nudge people to give any specific kind of feedback, but in order to get a holistic idea, we need to know if there are improvements too. And if users who experience any form of improvement do not feel as compelled to comment, it is difficult to draw comprehensive conclusions. That is a long way to say: If you are reading this thread and experienced any form of improvement as well, kindly comment so we can know that as well.
I experienced a crash with new client. Message says “windows fixed a compatibility issue”. After that it works normal as before. Just sharing.
Not sure if its completely related, but after update 70, i've encountered a new error after i installed the mini 70.1 patch that completely corrupted my files, and required to completely reinstall the files. Also, since that update, the firewall became far more aggressive torwards the mapleroyal files. I also had an issue of installing royals on my second drive (might be because i already had it installe on my C drive?). I'll further test it once valentine is over, i don't wanna miss out on the event by ruining something after uninstalling
Used to DC in HT no matter what I did, so I had to run on my MacBook or change to integrated graphics. And then I did the sound fix and I could play normally. The new stability changes have enabled me to multi client in HT without ever DCing which is super nice. I feel like I can access more content now. I also noticed that I don’t DC from GM events anymore (hope I didn’t just jinx it). I have crashed a few times when trying to get into the Valentine’s boss and there are a lot of mobs being summoned/AOE skills, but other than that I am very happy with how much more stable my clients are. Also kind of surprised that there’s only negative experiences in this thread; I know that me and at least two other friends have been experiencing improvements.
After the update i find characters i leave afk in high traffic areas mainly at ch1 waiting for event to pop atm i will end up dcing i never noticed it being this common before. I would say the last time i would dc this much was before the update that fixed zak dc
After the newest update, i’m still dcing in zak every few runs. I’ve tested full screen vs minimized (using 800 client) and I can’t seem to pinpoint if that effects it. I have been gfxing after arms are dead and each body. Normally I dc on last body. Only running 1 client. Connection and laptop are both fine.
Update to my previous feedback. I have since done many additional boss runs, and the game is overall running much smoother. I rarely experience lags in Zak any more, and have successfully completed 3/3 HT runs since. Of course, 3 is still a small sample size. I anticipate doing more HT expeditions in the near future and will continue to update my feedback. Great work and thank you!
